Team RunnersConnects steam rolls into March with 11PRs in races from the 10K to the marathon.

Eran Geyari ran the Herzeliya 10K race in Herzeliya, Isreal finishing in the time of 45:30 which is a PR by 3 minutes.

EranFinally I did it. And its only due to the Great Plan here at RC.  Great Race, Fantastic filling. Negative split and Fast finish. Crushed my 48:30 PR by 3min exactly.  I kept telling myself to be relaxed at the middle K’s and I felt good to burst at the end with Fast finish. Thank you coaches and RC for the Great support!

Josh Wede ran the Pittsburgh half marathon in Pittsburgh coming across the finish line with the time of 1:32:51 which is PR of 1 5 minutes and 34 seconds.

JoshWNailed it! And I have to give thanks to all the coaches and community at Runners Connect. Ran a PR by over 15 minutes (from last October). Felt really good going into the race so I thought I might try a massive cutdown run, starting at the prescribed pace and knocking off 5 seconds/mile every 3 miles. Ended up running a negative split by1:23. And my last mile was at 6:19 pace. Passed about 100 people over the last two miles, including the only real hill of the race. All of the training paid off!!

Bob Murney ran the Lake Minnetonka Half Marathon in Wayzata, MN coming across the finish line in the time of 1:48:52 which PR is of 1 minute and 39 seconds.

Extraordinarily beautiful day — an instant invitation to run and run well — did this race instead of the usual Sunday long run as a prep for the June marathon and tried to run the paces Coach Jamie prescribed — kept an 8:30 for the first three miles, then inched the pace toward positive splits — kept miles 4 through 10 at around 8:20 pace and never felt too tired — it was such a weird feeling to be directing the energy, able to shift up and down according to hills, and not searching for energy or being afraid of konking out (consumed one GU from mile 4-6 — barely drank any water as it was not too warm and I wasn’t thirsty). Coach Jamie suggested to “go for it” from miles 10-13.1 so I did — final mile was at 7:05, which means I probably could have gone a little faster earlier, but this pacing thing is new to me so I wanted to be conservative — have a great sense of confidence from finishing at 1:48:52— ready to train h arder for the next 7 weeks!

Linda McCosham ran the Recharge with Milk Half Marathon in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada finishing in the time of 2:12:59.

LindaMWhat a terrific day!! This was not a PR in the half marathon distance, but it was an improvement in this race over last year of about 12 minutes, which is excellent. The weather cooperated for today, cool temperature, virtually no wind and slightly overcast so it didn’t get too hot. The gun went off and; of course, I went out too fast so had to dial it back, which was difficult since so many people were passing me, but I had to remind myself to run my race, not someone else’s. However, I might have dialed it back a little too much because the first 3km were quite a few seconds slower than they should have been according to my race plan. All but two km from 6-20 were within range and I even managed a 5:54 km for the last km to the finish line – awesome!! Hurray for fast finish workouts! I used the “reel them in” technique in the last 5km, which worked really well. Even though I worked very hard throughout this race, I felt great at the finish, not completely done in the way I usually am. Thanks to RC for a fantastic training plan and to the coaches for their knowledge and encouragement. Especially Coach Jamie who was so patient with me while I was trying to learn that you need to run those easy runs EASY in order to run your race faster – it really works!!

Denise Schwartz ran the Capital City half marathon in Columbus, Ohio finishing in the time of 2:21:06 which is a PR by 3 and half minutes.

DeniseSc2 years ago I had an injury, peroneal tendonitis, after a half marathon and had to stop running for 4 months and could only tolerate swimming. I wasn’t quite ready to train for another half until last fall. I completed the Gasparilla half the end of Feb. and then joined up with RC to work on some speed. 4 weeks ago wound up with another minor injury, flexor hallucis longus strain (foot muscle), stopped running for a few days, had some treatment, ran, then had to stop again for a week and a half. Throughout I did really good cross training, massage, and PT. Bought some hokas, for the rocker bottom and stiffness to protect my foot, when I returned to running a week and a half before the race.  So, despite missing some key workouts, I Ultimately had a great race this weekend at Capital City in Columbus, Ohio. The weather was magnificent, music and crowd support terrific and had no pain as my friend paced me to a PR by 3.5 min from a race I did 4 years ago! Thanks RC!

Dan Lauing ran the brick street classic 5K in Clinton, MS coming across the finish line in the time of 20:38.

Fastest I’ve run in 3 years, so I’m happy with that. Was shooting for sub-20, but I’ll take it. Most people said they had 3.2 on their watches, so I’ll take comfort in that as well. Course was very hilly and had lots of turns. Next time.

Chris Bussa ran the Novi Half Marathon in Novi, MI finishing this race distance in the time of 2:00:45 which is PR by over 3 minutes.

ChrisBussaIt was the perfect day for a run – 50 degrees at the start, and not much wind. The course was pretty flat. My Goal race is coming up in three weeks, so this was simply supposed to be a tune up. I had not tapered, and this was actually a heavy mileage week. But, I knew my Goal race was hilly at the start, so in the back of my mind I thought perhaps this was the one to break 2 hours. My PR prior to this run was 2:03:14, and my next fastest time was 2:07:13. I went into the run thinking somewhere over 2:03 and under 2:07 would be about right. When I crossed the first mile, at what I thought was a reasonable pace, the clock showed 9:00. I knew that was the pace that I needed. Miles 2 & 3 were in the 8:45 range… a little quick, but I figured lets see how long I could hold this pace. At the half way point, I knew I had a shot.  At Mile 10, I really knew I had a shot. I can do this, I can do this. All the cold windy miles during the first 4 months of the year here in Michigan were going to pay off. But then the wheels came off a little bit at miles 11 and 12, and I fell just short. It was a curvy course, and I must not have run the tangents well because I was at 13.3 on my watch. I could not have run any faster this am… but hopefully with Coach Jamie’s guidance I will get under 2 sometime in 2015 🙂 Thank you all for your support and encouragement! I am thrilled to have set a PR 🙂

Ying Ford ran the Frederick half marathon in Frederick MD finishing this race in the time of 1:51:22 which is a PR by 4 minutes.

YingLMy goal marathon is two weeks from today, and I’m trying to BQ in that race. I was very strong at the end of the race. This half marathon makes me feel more confident to run BQ in two weeks.

Carol Anderson ran the Kalamazoo Borgess Run for the Health of It half marathon in Kalamazoo, MI finishing this race in the time of 2:59:22 which is a PR by 27:37.

CarolAndersenWell, I can honestly say that I’m pleased with today. Not ecstatic, but honestly pleased. I PR’d by over 27 minutes, did well in my second half, and did it in my own hometown. Not nearly as sore as I thought I’d be, and it’s a gorgeous day to wander around and get the swelling out of my legs. Disappointing news is that I wasn’t anywhere near my goal pace or time. But I’ll take the PR and figure out how to improve. Conditions were good, if a bit warm. Started out as Coach Jamie had suggested, conservatively at 11:12. It was literally downhill the next mile, at 11:17. Then my times just kept getting slower, bit by bit until the biggest hill at mile 8 1/2, when they really tanked (I’ll list the splits below). Mile 11 had another hill, and at that point, folks were talking about runners taking face plants on the final 3/4 mile stretch. Ambulances were out in force, too, so I just decided to chill at that point and not push it. There wasn’t much left in the tank at that point anyway, but I managed to finish with some walk breaks. Legs were heavy for much of the race and just wouldn’t turn over. At the end, everyone was feeling the heat, so it wasn’t just me. I saw a handful of runners faint as they came over the finish line, too. So, honestly, I&#03 9;m really glad I finished in decent shape! Now, I’m the first to admit that I’m not an experienced racer (only my second half, only been running for a year). I just didn’t have it today. Not sure if it was the heat, fueling, or what–I just didn’t have the gas in the tank to keep pushing it through at the pace we had targeted; felt like I just had two gears this morning! I’ve run faster long runs than I did today (almost all of my long runs were faster than today), and the only factor that was different was the temperature. So, I’ll chalk this up to a learning experience and figure how to build up more of a base to keep me going. I am pleased with the PR, disappointed that I wasn’t anywhere my goal time, but looking forward to the next half. Thanks RC and @Jaime Dodge

Brenda Steedman ran the Sydney  10K in Sydney Olympic Park coming across the finish line in the time of 55 minutes which is  a PR of 7 seconds.

BrendaI was hoping for a bigger PB since this race was a lot flatter and supposedly faster than my last 10km, maybe it was the humidity but I was struggling to keep up my pace in the second half of the race. Following the 55min pace runners helped. Of course this was only the warm up – immediately after I ran with my 10yo daughter in the 5k race , not a PB but I was happy to finish in a good time of 28min45s. My speedy daughter was happy to beat my by nearly 2 minutes!

Kristi Whitaker ran the New River Half marathon in Todd, NC finishing this race distance in the time of 2:06:55.

KristiWhittakerThis was a beautiful and very challenging race course in the Blue Ridge Mountains, along the New River. There were 3 significant climbs and descents, and a mentally challenging out-and-back at the end of the race. I had hoped to finish faster, but I enjoyed the race.

Tim Peoples ran the Indy 500 Mini Marathon in Indianapolis Indiana finishing in the time of 2:28:44.

TimPThe weather was spectacular and begging for a PR. I had trained well with Jamie advising me every step and I knew I was ready. I had had a bit of a flare up of my ITB earlier in the week, but had rested it and I was ready to go. I had the plan memorized and determined to stay with it. The first 4 miles were on plan and mile 5 and 6 the ITB started to spasm. I was determined to push through it. When the knife to the hip pain kicked in I had to slow down ,walked and even stopped to stretch.I never felt that pain before. I ran on and off until mile 10 when I was determined to finish strong. The last 3 miles were not fun but I kept a reasonable pace. When I saw my family the last 0.1 mile along the road I stopped and kissed them and sprinted to the finish. Rough race yes ( ended up in Urgent Care on Sunday evening). Satisfying Absolutely! My daughter ran her first 5K in under 28 minutes and my wife and her best friend ran the 5K together. Now to g et healthy for the San Francisco Marathon in July!

Thanasis Kypraios ran the Athens half marathon in Athens, Greece completing this race event in the time 1:42:17.

thanasisWhen the city you live is celebrating, you just can’t miss it. That’s why I took part in the 4th Athens Half Marathon (4 out of 4 participations). The hot weather, the difficult route and the fact that I am trying to keep it a bit easier for the moment didn’t let me race it as hard as I could. But I really enjoyed it! Catching up with friends (before, during and after), being part of the city’s fiesta and the coffee afterwards, everything was great!  Technically, I ran it at a comfortably hard pace. I was able to chat all the time while maintaining a quite fast pace… I finished and I was fresh!

Fred Beers ran the Shiprock Marathon in Shiprock, NM finishing in the time of 3:51:45 which is a PR by 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

I felt that I did a pretty good job preparing for my race (thanks to Jamie) and I was happy with my results as I set a PR of 5:40. I was not happy that my legs were cramping the last five miles or so. I told myself that I would not stop or walk despite the cramps in my legs. I kept going despite the pain and I was able to get my PR. I started out behind the 4:00 hour pace group and since my goal time was 3:53 I knew that I would have to pass the 4:00 group. I eventually passed them but I was running close about 8:40 or so which was ahead of my goal pace. After about a 30 minutes or so, I dropped back and asked the group leader what his strategy was. He replied that he wasn’t being responsible and that he needed to slow down. At that point he started to slow down to let others catch up to him. Unfortunately I didn’t slow down for the most part, although I knew I should have. I kept going at the faster pace which I believed contributed to my cramps near the end of the race.  I cramped up during my last marathon so I realize that I need to change something so that this does not happen again. I can’t wait for my next marathon!

Morgan Daulton ran the Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati, OH coming across the finish line in the time of 1:58:44.

MorganDI had a great time at this race – the weather was PERFECT, and I really felt like I accomplished exactly what I wanted. This race was very interesting because I TIED my PR from my last half marathon. Unbelievable. I just keep thinking… could I not have done ONE SECOND better?? Ha! I do feel like I’m improving though, because this course was more challenging than the last course. Since I got the same time, that makes me hopeful.

Tony Malinauskas ran the Flying Pig Half Marathon in Cincinnati, OH finishing this race in the time of 2:00:24 which is a PR of 22 seconds.

Last year this event was my first half-marathon, and I finished just 46 seconds over 2 hours then. This year I was aiming for breaking the 2 hour mark, but I’ve been having hamstring problems. Even though I improved my time slightly while dealing with that, the 2 hour barrier continues to mock me. I shall have sweet revenge some day. In the meantime, keep doing those stretches and exercises, people!

Richard Thomas ran the Sly Fox Half Marathon in St. Charles, Illinois finishing this race in the time of 2:16:54.

It was 44F and raining, with 15mph winds. But I was a good race for me because I only missed a PR by 4 seconds and this course was VERY hilly. I paced well and hydrated well and handled the hills without much difficulty. And, 1st in age group, if you count 2 as a “group”. 🙂

Patrick Welch ran the Providence Marathon in Providence RI finishing this race in the time of 4:34:40.

Perfect day. Trained extremely hard. Tapered, Carbo loaded, drank every station, took energy beans. Ran a conservative somewhat. 3:45. Solid first half Same result, 3x now. worse. Crashed and burned around. Moving on. Not giving up.

John Ranger compete in the SunSmart IRONMAN 70.3 Busselton in Busselton. Western Australia completing his leg of the race in the time of 1:41:59.

john RangerThis was the run leg of a half ironman. It is the biggest event of its type in the southern hemisphere and with over 1500 individual competitors and about 350 teams (of two or three) it made for a great atmosphere. With no specific training for this event and limited running as I return from injury I headed in with my longest run in the previous two months being just over 14km. The course was a flat out and back of 7km with 3 loops to do. Conditions were pretty much perfect, albeit slightly warm and with a slight headwind on the return leg As a triathlon relay the starts are staggered by when your cyclist arrives and so there is no guarantee you can run alongside people of similar pace. Luckily for the first two laps I was able to run with someone at roughly my marathon pace. Unfortunately he had also done the cycle leg and couldn’t hold the pace for the last lap. Without his assistance my pace dropped off a bit too however i was able to dig deep and pick up pace on the last return section finishing in just under 1:42:00. This is about 5 minutes slower than my best but I’m happy with where I’m at and hopefully this augurs well for my recovery.
