Team RC takes on August’s last blast of heat with 7 PRS, 2 wins and several age group awards.

Kyle Bowman raced a local track 5K  in Ohio coming across the finish line with a time of 15:29 which was good for a first place overall finish.

KyleRan 5.31 for the last 1.1mi=finishing time was 15.29. Wasn’t my fastest time but I was happy with it since it was 90 degrees earlier in the day, it was humid, and I have cold. I competed well and glad I didn’t give up-took advantage of his mistake by not dropping me when he passed. Lessons learned: Don’t give up, hang in there and push to keep the race close, you never know what you will have the last 150m of a 5k. Also, if you are competing against someone and you pass them 500m from the finish, do it with authority so they aren’t able to hang on.

Caroline Blatti raced a local 5K coming across the finish line as the first placed female with a time of 20:53.

CBThere is lots of good news but my time was off from my normal pace. This weekend was going to be brutal in terms of heat and humidity, and today when I woke up it was 70% humidity  and at race start time it was crazy humid and hot. I ran6:00 for mile 1 and while my legs felt fine my head felt like it was going to explode. I pulled back on pace as it really just felt so terrible. I ran 6:54 and 6:57 2 and 3 mile splits and just tried to keep the second place woman behind me. I had zero motivation by mile 2 so proud of myself for just trying to stay focused and finish as best I could. I did win overall with 20:53. So, a minute slower than what I wanted but I do think the conditions played a huge part. I am not giving up!

Martin Marker raced the San Diego Beer Run 5k In San Diego, CA finishing this event with a time of 18:35 which was a PR of 1 minute and 20 seconds which placed 2nd place overall.

Totally shattered my old PR and got 2nd overall in the race. Got a nice little second place award! Super stoked! I ran a 5k less than a year ago last november and finished in 19:54 im pretty sure. Shaved off over a minute! Thanks RC!!

Patrick Douglass run the San Diego beer run 5k in San Diego, CA coming across the finish line with a time of 22:20 which gave him a PR of 33 seconds.

PatrickDAdded another PR in an outstanding year of running for me. It was awesome to do it while on vacation.

Brian St.George raced the Country Mile Half Marathon in Woodbury, MN finishing this distance with a time of 1:27:02.

BStThe results of this race were disappointing, but I’m doing my best to take what I can from the experience. The traveling with kids, hotel, fueling on the road, etc. are all things I will need to deal with in October for my marathon. I was hoping for a solid predictor for my upcoming marathon since the only racing I’ve done in 10 years is at the 5k distance. I feel like the best thing I learned yesterday was just how early I am in the process of transitioning my race distance. I know I have the ability to do much better, but am OK knowing that it may take a considerable amount of additional time before I can equate my 5k times to half and full marathon success.

Ian Mannix ran the Adelaide Running Festival in Adelaide, South Australia 10K coming across the finish line with a time of 58:19.

Target was 53:00. Time for 10km was 52:00, which is about a minute off my PB set many years ago. The race, due to a marshall’s error, was actually 11.1km, and des-pite confusion as I ran past various different mileage signs, I managed to continue to run hard for the final 1100m as well, and finished in 58:19, which was seventh out of 18 in the male 50-54 age group, and 78th of all 420 competitors of all ages.

Emily Pilotte competed in the Cranberry Trifest which was an olympic distance triathlon in Lakeville, MA completing this event in the time 2:39:09 which gave her PR by 1 minute in the same event from last year and 3rd place in her age group.

EmilyPHad a good race, and got lucky enough to get 3rd in my age division. It was nice to have a direct comparison from last year. Although my bike time was 30 seconds slower (not for lack of effort (but training)- I was working pretty darn hard on the bike), my run time was 1 minute faster. My legs never really felt that great on the run (they were tired the whole way), but thanks to all of the tough RC workouts, I was able to push through and finish much stronger this year. I really appreciate all of the support and encouragement from RC, as well as the great training plan. Thanks so much!

Rob Sklenar ran the College of the Canyon Cross Country Series Final in Santa Clarita, CA finishing this race with a time of 20:32 which was a 13 second PR.

My running club participates in the cross country series everyone year. There are 6 races each Thursday evening and last night was a final where age group awards are given. It’s a very tough course we all very well and includes some running through the campus on grass, roads, sidewalks and dirt trails. Mile 2 includes 3 very steep climbs on the dirt affectionately known as “the killer hills.” Mile 3 is a nice downhill on the dirt, back to the road and finishes in the stadium on the track. I’d never been and to get under 22 minutes, plenty of 22:03s, 22:05s, etc. Started off this year with a 21:20 in the first race, ran a couple easy, ran a 20:45 2 weeks ago and finished strong last night with a PR of 20:32. It was still only good for 5th in age group but since the other 4 guys are all friends and training partners from my club I can’t complain. The race is a blast as it attracts a huge number of high school and college track and cross country runners and it’s not unusual for there to be 500-700 runners each week.

Mary Stocker ran the Seattle Marathon 10k in Seattle, WA finishing this race with a time of 54:09 which was a PR.

MarySThis is a modern day PR for both this race and the 10k by 3:30. Started out faster then plan but for the most part was able to maintain effort throughout the race.

Chantal Ouellet ran the Marathon des 2 rives 1oK in Quebec, Canada completing this race with a time of 56:25 which was a PR by 50 seconds.

Wow! a new PR by 50 sec and a good race! I didn’t achieve a negative split, but I still had energy for the end of the race. I try to adjust my pace according to the calculator and to maintain a 5:40/km or lower, except for hills.

Alexandre Charest ran the Marathon SSQ Lévis-Québec in Quebec City finishing this distance with a time of 4:03:30.

acThis was too hot for me. After 30 km, we entered a long stretch where there was no shade at all until the finish. It was sunny, near 80°F and with a very little down wind. So this was very hot. I slowed down a little but despite making everything I could to keep cool from the beginning (dropping cups of water on my head at each aid station, running through every shower on the course, even putting an ice cube under my hat) this was too much. I lost my will to compete when I saw another unconscious at 35k with first aid rushing to him. I decided that I would not be the next so I slowed down even more and even walked the better part of km 37 to 40. I picked it up a little after that but ended around half an hour slower than my last race and expectations. I’m not too disappointed because I knew that it would be that kind of hot day before. I’ll choose another race next time. I finished smiling and happy to be able to make the walk back to my hotel instead of requiring medical assistance! There’ll be some other race another time.

Eric Sullivan raced the Santa Rosa Marathon in Santa Rosa, CA coming the finish line with a time of 2:59:25 which was PR by 1 minute and 37 seconds.

EricI did it! I have finally accomplished the sub 3 hour marathon! When I first started marathon training back in 2011 at age 39 I thought this would be a relatively easy accomplishment. (I ran a lot in my younger days at shorter races) I was wrong! At age 42, I can finally say – “I’m a sub 3 hour marathoner” It took me 3 years, a couple thousand miles and 6 marathons to get things to come together for this PR and breaking through the 3 hour barrier. I finished the Santa Rosa Marathon in 2:59:25. I listened to (and actually followed) Coach Sarah’s advice of being very consistent with pacing – finishing all but the first mile and the last mile between 6:41-6:52 (and mile 20 at 6:34). Also, I ran a negative split with a 1:29:55 first half and 1:29:30 second half.  I really want to thank all of my RunnersConnect teammates and the coaches for their support to help me to achieve this goal. I’ve run a lot of races in my life, but this is a milestone I rank at very close to the top. Thanks!
