Team RunnersConnect racing strong around the world with 2 PRs and several age group awards.

Anne-Lise Vivier ran the Front Runners LGBT Pride Run which is a 5 mile race in Central Park, New York, NY coming across the finish line with a time of 43:15 which is a PR of 3 minutes and 42 seconds.

Anne_liseVDespite a hilly course and the biggest uphill in the first mile, I managed to PR by quite a bit. I am happy with how I finished as well. Finishing strong is usually not my strength, but this time, I could do it. This run took place the day after the Supreme Court decision to allow gay marriages and, as you can imagine, this race was just a big party from start to finish.

Ron Darin ran the Charlevoix Marathon in Charlevoix, Michigan coming across the finish line with a time of 3:28:42 which is a PR buy 2 minutes and winning 2nd in his age group.

RonDarinThis was my 4th marathon in 15 months. A PR, Boston Qualified, and finished 2nd in age group. It was a beautiful course and the weather was perfect. The race was special because my son ran his first half marathon in the race and my family traveled with me. Planned to run the first half in 1:40 and hit that on the money. Struggled mightily from mile 18 on and failed to keep pace. Proud that I kept fighting back in spite of the fact I didn’t have my A game. Seemed to solve the fueling issue I had at Dubai in January. Not sure if I had lingering jet lag from traveling home from the Middle East or if I carried some training fatigue from the high temperatures. I continue to very much enjoy the training and racing this distance. Grateful to the RC community and Coach Jamie for their support and encouragement.

Cynthia Morris ran the Pacific crest half marathon in Sunriver, Oregon running this race in the time of 1:49. with placed her 1st in her age group.

CynthiaTune up race. Not quite a month post 50k. Mid 70’s at start, mid 80’s at finish. My husband ran it last year and told me it was flat. It was rolling hills. I never felt great but by mile 6 had settled into a comfortable pace. I am used to running alone on trails so the 851 runners in this race was a but of a trial for me. By the last half I had two men running flat footed by me that were driving me nuts. One was on my tail (had to be 7 ft tall) and at about 11 miles told me I was pacing him to a pr. I won my age group, 35/549 woman, 92/851 runners, 13 in masters. I had hoped to run closer to 8 min mile but I could tell between my Pima and some residual 50k fatigue it was not to be. I am very happy with my time and the awesome hardware I got!

Kim Rankin ran the Summer sunrise watermelon 5k series race#2 in Lakeland, Florida coming across the finish line in the time of 38:08.

KimRThis race was special because I managed the pre-race almost perfectly. lol . Just a fun race. But practicing the pre race warmup for events like this will help me when I do this for a race I truly care about. No PR , but over 2 minutes faster than my time for this late June race last year. There were moments I contemplated walking for a few minutes thinking I may ultimately be able to finish faster. That may have been true. But I also decided that regardless of the time, I was going to finish the race without walking. So that’s what I did . The post race ice cold watermelon slices were delicious, too!

Karl-Olav Gravdal ran the In the pursuit of the bisons 15K in the Nipołomice Forest, Poland finishing this race event in the time 1 hour and 22 minutes.

KarlAn unplanned race that I was not prepared for. We travelled from Norway to Poland the same morning, but I still managed to join my brother in law for the race at 1200. Although I didn’t feel properly recovered from the cutdown interval two days earlier I started the race with a 4:30 pace (/km). I soon realised that it was too fast, as my legs didn’t seem to get rid of lactate at all. I tried to slow down a bit, but that didn’t help. I tried to run faster as well, but with no luck. Then, after about four kilometres I was lucky (most people won’t agree). Someone didn’t like that we were running in the area and had sabotaged the route. Instead of turning left we were fooled to to right at a crossing, leading us back to where we came from. The whole group of runners came to a full stop and it took almost five minutes before I was back on (the correct) track. At that point I no longer had to make up any excuses for running a bad race, so I decided to take it easier the remaining ten kilometres. Before the stop my average pace was 4:38 /km. afterwards I ran at an enjoyable 5:10 pace.

Tony Malinauskas competed in the Tough Mudder in Sparta, KY completing this 10.1 mile course.

This was my 13th Tough Mudder in 2 1/2 years. These races are not timed; the focus is on helping each other through obstacles and overcoming fears they may present (e.g. to height, claustrophobia, electric shocks, etc.). Runners wear headbands of a certain color that indicates how many races they’ve run — I have the highest level since I’ve exceeded 10 races. This gets me many congratulations, but I like it most when I hear how it inspires others because I’m also clearly in the “Masters” age group.

Ralph Caddell ran the Armadillo Dash Trail Race which is a 3 mile in Bonne Carre Spillway, Louisiana finishing this race distance in the time of 29:57.

RaplhCThis was the second race of a summer trail series in the New Orleans area. Due to heat and humidity trail races are the way to go in the summer around here. I did not have any expectations going into this race other than to work on my race strategies. I was determined to start slower and have a little left at the end. This trail has a lot of switchbacks and is difficult to pass on so it cannot be compared to a road race. I did manage to hold back my pace on the first mile and achieve my goal to run the last mile the fastest. Some fast old men in my group as both the Grandmasters and Seniors winner were from my group. I finished about 20 seconds behind the Seniors winner. This was the RRCA Louisiana Cross Country Championship so I did not feel bad about finishing that close to the overall seniors winner.

Roman Furberg ran the 21 Anual Tesoro March point Run & Walk which is a 10K in Anacortes, WA finishing this race in the time of 1:02:47.

RomanFTuneup race to determine my HM fitness level. I had a goal of 1:01.11 which correlates to my goal to finish the HM in 2:15 or less, and a stretch goal of under 1 hour. Did not meet either goal because of the heat and the hill at mile 2 which cost me 1 minute. All in all I am satisfied with the outcome because I did show that my fitness improved from when I started. Not giving up on my HM goal of under 2:15 at the end of September.

Beth Werling ran the Stein Hospice 5k in Sandusky, Ohio finishing this run in the time of 23:05.

It was pouring down rain with 24 mph winds. In fact, it was supposed to be a 10k, but the RD downgraded it to a 5k because of the monsoon-like conditions.
