Team RunnersConnect continues the strong push through fall with 6PRs and strong efforts in tune-ups races

Ron Darin ran the 642 Marathon in Kuwait City, Kuwait finishing this race distance in the time of 3:45:20 which was a PR by 1 hour.

RonDarinReally good run to Mile 18. Started getting cramps. No gatorade on course and was reluctant to try a new sports drink I never heard of. Had good energy but had to stop every half mile as legs seized up. I estimate I lost approximately 12 minutes over teh last 8 miles. Lastly, very encouraging run as my 2nd marathon. my goal of 3:30 is definitely in sight.

Jason Bryant ran the La Porte By the Bay Half Marathon in La Porte, TX finishing this race in the time of 1:51:38.

JasonThis race told me exactly what I was hoping it would: I’m getting fitter and faster. My current half marathon PR (1:51:21) was set on a pancake-flat course in perfect racing conditions back in January of this year. I missed that mark by only 17 seconds (1:51:38) on Sunday. Considering that more than a mile of this course was run uphill (and some of it pretty darn steep) and race conditions were less than ideal (65 degrees, 100% humidity and rain for about 20-30 minutes of the race), I feel pretty good about the result. This was my second straight race to run completely by feel – no watch, no phone. I ran the first 7 miles conservatively, and opened it up during the last 10k. The second bridge pass (mile 9) is what really slowed me down. Miles 10-12 were fast and I felt great. I faded a bit in the last mile, but finished strong over the last 1/4. I ran a pretty solid race from a strategy standpoint, but I also felt I had more left in the tank when it was all said and done. I left some time on the course, for sure.

Brendan Crill ran the Canyon City Marathon in Azusa, CA coming across the finish line with a time of 3:00:40 which is a PR by 1 minute and 30 seconds.

BrendanCrillThis race was on an extreme course in the San Gabriel mountains: nearly 1 mile of vertical drop, 4000 feet of downhill in the first half alone (a -6% grade or so). The second half had a net drop of around 1000 feet, but with a long uphill between miles 14 and 17 and another hill at mile 20. The course was beautiful – starting high above the clouds, dropping into the huge canyon of the San Gabriel river, and eventually dumping us out onto the streets of Azusa. The weather was great – around 40F at the start and around 65F down at the bottom, no wind to speak of. Despite all the warnings, I took the first half too hard and paid the price later. I came through the first half in 1:23 (the fastest half marathon I’ve ever run by almost 2 minutes) and it felt easy. but by the last 5K, my calf muscles were incredibly tight, and I slowed down considerably. The last mile was a battle just to put one foot in front of the other. But I kept at it, and no one passed me during that last 5K – I managed a PR and a 14th place finish overall, 2nd in my age group. Now that I have felt the consequences of starting too fast on a hilly course, it will be easier to force myself to start slow at Boston in the spring!

Eran Geyari raced a 15K race in Isreal coming across the finish line with a time of 1:15:49 which was a PR of 14 minutes.

EranDespite the relative hot weather in November, this 15K race went very well. I run it exactly as I planed. Since I knew its going to be hot I run it 5sec slower than my potential 15K pace and this decision seems to be a good one since the race was very tough in this hot conditions. I managed to keep solid paces and finish strong. I felt good at the end of the race with a mixed filling that I could give even more..

Lauren Brinkac ran the Richmond Marathon in Richmond, VA finishing this race in the time of 3:59:13 which was a PR by 13 minutes.

LaurenBI’ve been wanting to break 4 hours for some time now … followed the nutritional blueprint, stuck to my race plan, and PR’d by 13 mins!!!!

Douglas Petrick ran the Officer Down 5K Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, PA finishing this race in the time of 20:13 which was a PR.

DouglasPThis was my first race in almost 2 years. Almost 2 years ago I had a stress fracture in my ankle and partially torn ligaments in my foot/ankle. Following the diagnosis of the injury in February of 2013 (I injured it in January of 2013.), I had boots, braces, and many false starts for the next almost two years of attempting to return to training and running. This race and time was a major accomplishment for me because at some point during the past two years, I really thought I was going to be done with racing because I was not able to break the injury cycle. I am very proud of the fact that I continued to “hang in there” since running is something that I love that gives me so much back in my life- both running and non-running. I figured this was all a test to see how much I wanted to return to running. It also gave me a lot of time to reflect on why I run and why its important to me. So the fact that I finished, finished with a great time, and executed a race plan makes me feel so happy. Thanks Runners Connect and Thanks Coach Jay!

Linda McCosham ran the Rock’nRoll Las Vegas Half marathon in Las Vegas, NV finishing this event in the time of 2:21:06.

LindaMThis is the second time I did this race, but it’s changed from a morning race to a night race. It was a lot of fun to run the strip at night. I was there with my daughter who ran her first marathon. I still have work to do to get faster, but am happy with my result. Thanks to RC and Coach Jamie for all the great information and coaching.

Jeff Wiedre ran the Bucks County Marathon in Washington Crossing PA finishing with a time of 5:49:26 which is a PR by 50 minutes.

This was my 2nd marathon, and I had hoped to do better. But happy that I improved and looking forward to future improvements

Brian Hazard ran the Avengers Half Marathon is Disneyland, Anaheim, CA finishing with a time of 1:46:25.

BHazardThe wind was insane! We fought it miles 4-8 on the way to Angels Stadium, and it pushed us on and off after that. For nutrition, I had 10 oz of Gatarade 10 minutes before the start, and then a cup of Powerade at every station (after reading about the virtues of that plan in Owen Anderson’s Running Science the night before).  Pretty happy with my performance, all things considered. I knew I wasn’t going to break my 1:40 PR coming off an injury, yet I’m confident I would’ve been faster if the wind weren’t such an issue. There were sheets of dirt blowing across the freeway on the drive home!

Alex Tay ran his first half marathon at the Penang Bridge International Half Marathon in Penang, Malaysia finishing this race distance in the time  of 2 hour 42 minutes.

This is my first official half marathon race(ran six full marathon), it is not meant to achieve PR but to pace my son(16yrs old). His second half marathon and the first time he race with me. My mission is to ensure he finish the race better than his first half marathon time and feel confident for subsequent long distant running. Proud to say mission accomplish. Result wise, though I did ask Coach Jamie to design a 2hr plan but am fail to stick with it due to two reason 1. slow recovery from a 24km hard mountain race, 2. injured my toe. Looking forward better performance next year!
