Team RunnersConnect brings in 12 PRs in distance from the 5K to the marathon and several new race distances from the 8K to the marathon.

Tom Benoit ran the Horseneck Beach half marathon in Westport, MA coming across the finish line in the time of 1:59:51 which is a PR by 4 minutes and 25 seconds.

TomBBroke the 2 hour barrier in the HM today with a 1:59:51. Also a HM PR of 4:25.  Very pleased, as the temps and winds were both higher than predicted. Miles 6 thru 10 (5 miles) were 70 degrees, bright sun, zero breeze and no shade to be found. Then we turned a corner to head to the finish and miles 11 thru 12.5 (1.5 miles) had a pretty strong headwind of 15 MPH or so.

Ying Ford ran the Pocono Mountain Marathon in Stroudsburg PA finishing this race distance in the time of 3:56:04 which is a PR by 10 minutes.

YingLYesterday was hot and humid. The first 20 miles has lots of down hills, then some up and down from 21 to 26. Because the warm weather and I never run so many down hills before, I decided to follow 3:55 pace group so I won’t run too fast at the beginning. I started running ahead after reach mile 16. Maybe I should have waited longer. My first half was 1:56:55. Later find out the pacer dropped out at miles 20 because he had leg cramps. It got so hot later of the race. Thanks some local families provided us ice and extra water station. I PRed by 10 minutes. I just can’t stop getting PRs since I joined RC back in Feb 🙂 Thanks RC coaches and RC fellow runners for all you support in this training cycle!

LeeAnn Meyer ran her first marathon at the Surfer’s Path Marathon in Santa Cruz, CA finishing in the time of 4:17:14.

LeeAnnMI was a nervous wreck going into my first marathon, but reading all the supportive comments on here to trust my training made me feel a little better. I was really happy with how I ran. I tried my hardest to start out slow. The first half was rolling hills into Capitola and back. I was shocked at how well I did on the hills and at the half marathon turnoff was close to my PR. After mile 13, things got a little bit more difficult. We headed up for a northern loop and it became gut check time. I broke the run into 4 mile segments and fueled up at each four. Miles 18-22 were a big circle along a tough trail with a spectacular view.  I never felt like I hit a wall at all and hitting 20 was actually a relief because I knew I had more left in me and only an hour left to go. I think that the marathon specific training I did really helped me not only physically, but mentally here. I was used to pushing through hard workouts. A million thanks to Jamie and the RC community for helping me achieve this monumental goal!

Theresa Brennan ran the Abington community partners police 5k in Abington, MA finishing this race in the time of 25:05 which is a PR by 2 minutes.

TheresaRan strong the whole way through. Had strong splits and felt really good coming into the finish. This race is timed by my club so there are lots of club members who run this. I beat many of the people who have historically run faster than me. It was a nice feeling to see all the training pay off.

Josh Wede ran the OLV Victory Run 5K in State College, PA finishing in the time of 20:23 which is a PR of 36 seconds.

JoshWThis was my first hard effort since my half marathon a couple of weeks back and my legs are just getting back to normal. I was hoping to break 20 minutes for the first time but conditions weren’t ideal. The course was pretty hilly, and it was a hot and humid morning. Of course I went out way too fast and when I tried to push over the last 0.75 miles, my legs just weren’t there. But it was still a PR by over 30 seconds so I was pleased with the result.

Anne-Lise Vivier ran her first half marathon at the Brooklyn Half Marathon in Brooklyn, NY finishing in the time of 1:55:35.

This was my very first Half Marathon, and I had been dreaming of running the Brooklyn Half ever since I started running a year ago, so yes, it was special. I killed it!! My legs hurt, but I am very happy with my race. It was not easy pacing myself at the beginning, but it paid off. Running my first Half Marathon in less than 2 hours gave me bragging rights for the whole weekend, I think!  My only “deception” was that my legs started hurting and it started being really tough at mile 11 and I could not finish as hard as I wanted to. Everybody had told me how wonderful it is when you get on the Coney Island Boardwalk to cross the finish line. Well, I barely noticed the boardwalk (before I went back an hour later), as I was busy trying to reach the finish line despite the pain – Longest 400 meters of my short running life!! 🙂  I beat my target time, and I am happy with my race. I’ll be able to walk down the stairs without making a face soon, right? 😉

Bjorg Klem ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon in Brooklyn, NY coming across the finish line in the time of 2:03:26.

First long run since completing the Big Sur marathon on April 26, started out easy and managed a solid negative split. Felt great considering i had 6 hours of sleep after rehearsal dinner the night before for my best friend’s wedding!

Randy Smith ran the Ogden marathon in Ogden, Utah finishing this race distance in the time of 4:07:33 which is a PR by 15 minutes.

RandySmithThis was a real ‘gut it out’ kind of race. It was very cold and pouring rain the entire time. My training made me able to feel confident and controlled the entire time. I felt like I knew what I was doing and was ready despite the horrible conditions. I PR’d the marathon by 15 minutes and beat my time in this race by 22 minutes from last year, so have to feel good about that – despite feeling that I could’ve run faster if I was just a little more disciplined in the race splits, or if I wasn’t freezing and soaked the whole time My family (wife and all 6 little kids) was there in the rain to watch me, and I was able to smile and look strong and happy when I saw them. That was the best part. Also, I am coming off an unfortunate cliff jumping injury last July that in which I crushed both feet in shallow water leaving me unable to run until mid October, so being basically injury free now is also a very big deal (oh yeah and dropped 25lbs since December too!).

Ryan Pesanka ran the Cannoli Runs 5K in Fort Mill, SC coming across the finish line in the time of 20:15.

RyanPFinished 6th overall and 2nd in my age group. Ran a good time despite fighting muscle fatigue from the start.

Richard Thomas ran the Got2Run for Education in Arlington Heights, Illinois finishing this race in the time of 46:59 which a PR given it was the first time running this distance.

I was scheduled to do 12 miles on Saturday, but I found this race that was close to the house, so signed up. It was a new distance for me, so guaranteed PR. I decided to run the 3.3 miles to the race site, run the race, and then run home. This would put me very close to my scheduled 12 miles. It was very obvious that this event was hosted by runners. They just did everything right, well organized, lots of food, well marked course with timing mats every mile, plenty of porta-potties, just a good, high energy event. The humidity was 94%, with temps at 64F, but the predicted rain held off and the overcast sky helped to make it seem cooler. The course was all in a nice residential neighborhood and mostly flat. There were a LOT of turns so it really helped to pay attention and run the tangents.
I placed 2nd in my small age group. I ran negative splits, but think I was too conservative overall.  All in all, a great event and a good day.

Jonathan Bogaard ran the Homer Harvey 5k in Northbrook, IL finishing in the time of 26:31 which is a PR by 26 seconds.

This was the second Saturday in a row of a 5k in my community – both for local school causes. I ran both races last year as well. I went out too fast and did the classic slow down as you go (Mile 1 8:13, Mile 2 8:37, Mile 3 8:41). Still beat last weeks PR by 26 seconds but didn’t feel as good doing it. I like that feeling of attacking the last mile and I just didn’t have it. I improved my time over last year in this race by almost 7 minutes. Funny story. Last year I got first place in my age division (out of 2 – lol) but didn’t stay after the race to get my medal (I didn’t know). So, this year I stuck around post race. I was awarded the medal for first place in my age group (50 – 59) and there were 10 runners so I felt good about that. However, in the official results published yesterday, the overall winner (time of about 20 minutes) was also in my age group and therefore he was really first. I’m sure in the post race haste they didn’t connect the dots. I’ve e-mailed and asked if they want the medal back. The overall winner got a nice plaque and the medals were generic so I know they have plenty if they want to give him one. I just feel “guilty” about keeping it and certainly can’t say I was first in my age division for this race.  Fun race for a good cause and hopefully I can use it as a good learning experience to really focus on getting a sense for my pace. I need to figure out my next goal. Thanks again to my coaches and teammates at RC!

Edward Sum ran the Whitby Marathon in Whitby, Ontario, Canada finishing in the time of 3:18:52 which is a PR of 38 seconds.

ESumThis was my 11th marathon. Though it was not a big PR (only by 38 seconds), I was happy with my result. It was hot, especially the second half. I had also been training with limited mileage the past 6 – 7 weeks or so as I had been battling a foot injury in March and early April. Hence, I knew I would probably struggle the latter part of the race. But I was able to stay calm throughout and run my own pace, and even with a few walk breaks after 37k, I was able to limit the losses and still PR. A very small race mostly on a waterfront trail and I was also able to place 6th overall. The best part: having the support of my training buddy from 32 – 34k when he ran with me. Running is definitely a team sport!

Jami Fork ran the Midnight Madness 5K in Ashland, Ky coming across the finish line in the time of 36:26 which is a PR by 52 seconds.

This was the first time I have ever run a complete 5k without walking.

Teresa Perex ran the Geist Half Marathon in Fishers, IN finishing in the time of 2:07:51.

TeresaPIt was horrible race for me. My legs felt really heavy beginning with mile 1. It was very humid. I had to walk some throughout which I rarely do. I chalk it up as just one of those days. Looking forward to training these next few weeks. Next race isn’t until July 11th. I think running 3 half marathons in 4 weeks may have been too much for me.

Björn Lúdvíksson ran the Hengill mountain trail run 20K in Hveragerdi finishing in the race distance in the time of 1:38:31.

Did it for fun. Very difficult trail, but great location on a trail amongst gaisers and with a very steep mountain near the finish of the race

Diana Convey ran the Desert Marigold 6K in Estrella Mountain Competitive Trail finishing this race event in the time of 30:47 which is a 2 minute PR.

DianeCAn odd distance to run, however a very scenic and fun event. We had gotten quite a bit of rain in the early morning hours, therefore I wasn’t sure in what condition the trail would be. The weather cooperated and it was a gorgeous morning for the run. Small local race, but they still started us in waves to prevent any mishaps. I went in the first wave and was surprised to see 8:25 for the first mile. Some easy switchbacks and rolling hills made it interesting. My second mile was significantly faster at 8:01 as I settled in for the last 1.75 miles. I covered mile 3 in 8:13 and finished strong. I was very pleased with the result and happy to be running healthy on such a beautiful day.

Ricardo Gomes ran the Maratona do Douro Vinhateiro in Peso da Regua which is a 21K finishing this race distance in the time of 1:58:50 which is a 9 minutes PR.

It is the most beautiful race in the world 🙂 http://www.douro-valley-marathon.com/en/home.html It was very hot day (over 30 degrees Celsius). Everyone was very careful regarding hydration and starting with a slower pace. I was convince that I would make a good result (never trained so much for a rece), I felt prepare, started slow, increasing the pace step by step, until I was @the 2hours pace time. Never push, and always thinking I cold run at a faster pace. Only started to push hard at 2 km to the Finnish line, and even got time to pick up my son, and cross the line with him 🙂 Besides the hot day, and the pain form the blisters (mainly caused by the liters and liters of water I use on top of my head), the landscape was capable of giving all the energy needed to finish strong.

Minna Hayman ran the Helsinki City Run Half Marathon in Helsinki, Finland finishing this race in the time of 1:49:02 which is a PR of 3 minutes.

MinnaHI ran my first Half in February this year in Malta in 1:52, so I set 1:50 as my hopeful target when I signed up for the Helsinki City Run in May. I read from forums that the route is very undulating, with lot of twists and turns and over 12k of the course is through forest where the roads are not paved but natural soil and gravel, so it’s considered a ‘slow’ course.  I stayed with my family and unfortunately my father’s health has deteriorated drastically so I didn’t sleep much the last 2 nights before and on the race morning I felt doubtful about even doing the darn thing! But I met some old friends who came to see me specially so I lined up with the rest of 14,500 runners. Weather was very fickle with sporadic showers and very cold for the time of year with just +12C.  The route was fantastic, edging first the many bays of Helsinki shoreline and then dipping deep into forest that stretches into the city. It was undulating but manageable and I found I felt fairly strong through out. I kept on thinking of my dad, dedicating the race to him as he always was keen sportsman himself, both doing and following.  I loved the softer gravel paths and stayed nicely on the heels of couple of young men whose pace felt perfect for me. When I came in I was delighted to learn I had surpassed my (own) target time by nearly a minute! I called my family immediately to ask them to tell dad how I had done. All in all it was a wonderful experience, fantastic organisation and I am so pleased with how I felt through the race, my time and now after I feel like I have recovered much faster than from the one in February.

Gena Heminover ran the Green Bay Cellcom Marathon in Green Bay, WI coming across the finish line with the time of 3:58:37 which is a 19 minute PR.

GenaHI’ve had a four hour goal for a while but having two babies in the last four years have put my times all over the place. I now have a 3.5 year old and a 9 month old and I put in the time and hard work to get to my goal in this race. I joined Runners Connect 6 weeks before my race worried that I re-injured my hip where I have had a previous stress fracture. I followed the recovery training that got me back on track. I haven’t had any pain since!!! Thank you!
I hope to keep inching closer to the Boston qualifying time. I figure if I can PR by 19 minutes 9 months after a baby it might be possible to get to Boston…got to have goals 🙂
