Team RunnersConnect brings September in with a bang as athletes notch 14 Personal Bests

MJ Llamas ran the Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:08:18. This was a personal record by 2:09.

Days leading up to race day, a tropical storm made its way to Virginia Beach which led to a cancellation of several events, possibly including the half marathon. But on race morning, somehow the weather turned and made way for temps in the mid 70’s but extremely windy (15-22mph). Since this is my 4th time racing this half marathon, I have pretty much memorized the course. As Coach Michael had suggested, I stayed conservative with my pace the first 6 miles though it was a bit difficult since tailwinds made it feel like I can go faster. Soon after I passed the 6th mile marker, I really felt good and just made a go for it. I was glad to have stayed conservative the first 6 miles because for the remainder of the race it was mostly with headwinds. I knew the winds would eventually take a toll on me, so it became a mental game to block it away and just kept going. It was a nice payoff when I saw the big clock at the finish line — a full 2 mins and 9s faster than last year AND overall personal best for my half marathon. It was a good racing day 🙂

Slawomir Wojcik ran the New Haven Road Race Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:26:45. This was a new personal record by 2:33.

Pretty good PR partially thanks to the excellent weather but I’m not completely satisfied since I was fighting stomach issues throughout the entire race.
Lesson one: do whatever you can to minimize the risk of “misfuelling”
Lesson two: you can still have a decent result although I couldn’t really enjoy the race at any given point.

David Young ran the Saucon Valley Rail Trail 10K and finished the distance in the time of 46:26. This was a PR by 7:28.

This was just a tune-up race for a half marathon in October. The time I posted was slower than what I actually ran. I need to wait for the official results to find my real time but I’m estimating it’s about 1 minute faster than I reported it to be.

The last 10K I ran was last October, pre RC and I’ve been getting faster since then. During training runs my garmin reminded me several times that I’ve set new 10K PR’s without even trying so setting a PR for this race was pretty much a given right from the start.

There really wasn’t anything special about this race but I did run this race by effort only and did not look at my pace one time during the race. It seems to have worked out well and I don’t think there was anything left in me to push much harder. I’m really satisfied with the result and feel I’m in a good position to start the last six or so weeks of training for the October half marathon.

With this and every race, I need to give a call out to the coaches and thank them for their advice, assistance, encouragement, and for providing a training plan that really works! Great results aren’t possible without you!

Lydia Spotts ran the Doughnut Dash More Than A 4k half marathon and finished with a time of 2:24:18, which was a PR by 10 minutes.

Christian Willis ran the Malmesbury 10K, finishing this distance in the time of 42:44. This was a PR by 54 seconds!

This was my tune up race for the Bristol half marathon in 3 weeks. I knew I could achieve a good time and was hoping to achieve a sub 43. Then I started running the race and came across several unexpected hills. I knew at this point a PB was probably not possible. I kept a good strong pace all the way and managed a PB for a mile at mile 6 and a 10K PB, not sure why I thought hills should slow me down!

Steve Curran ran the Rock n Roll VB Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:15, which was a PR by 10 minutes!

This was a PR for this particular race. In the 10 years I have run it I never felt as well prepared and in control of outcome. I have to give credit for that to Coach Sarah and Jamie. When that little voice in my head kept telling me it was ok to slow down or take a walk break I looked back at the things I learned at running camp and pushed through. Thank you both for your tips they really did work.

Also a big shout out to the rock n roll event staff, after hurricane Hermine disrupted much of the race weekend the RnR staff did a great job putting this event on.

Kevin Hurrell ran the Cow chip classic run 10k and finished in a time of 43:10, which was a 14 seconds PR!

I fit this race in the middle of my long run on Saturday. 3 mi. Before and 4 mi after wards. The course has 2 big hills on it but the weather was perfect and I had a great time after the race was over. Finished the race 7th/180 and 1st in my age group.

Andrew Goodwin ran the Canadian Half Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 1:51:02.

It is a small part of a much larger Tri-Duathalon event. Great atmosphere.

Naoise Mcloughlin ran the Belfast Laganside 10k with a finishing time of 39:57.

First race back after 4 months out with high hamstring tendonopathy, so really glad to be back. Happy enough with the time but disappointed with the amount of effort required to achieve it. First 5k was OK , went out in about 19:26, then the heat and humidity along the the lack of race fitness caught up on me. Suffered during the second 5k.

My goal race is in two weeks so hopefully it cools down a bit before then. I also really need to work on the mental side of racing.

Bill Leppert ran the Eastman 10K and finished the distance in the time of 41:21, which was a PR by 1:20.

Over the past 1.5 years I have had numerous problems hurting my running; Anemia, stress fracture, a chronic infection, and endocrine system problems. I think the doctors have narrowed things down and I am finally training healthy, hopefully many more PR’s to come. Coach Jamie Dodge, and Runners Connect have remarkably been able keep me running through all this. Looking forward to the next year of running! Thanks to all at Runners Connect!

Erhan Sirin ran the 9 September Ä°ZMÄ°R half marathon and finished with a time of 1:41:04, which was a PR!

This one was the PR for me. After 13.87K, my watch suddenly stopped and could not record my Laps afterward. I got them from my friend who was my pacer later to log them in RC. Overall it was an excellent race for me. The terrain was superb and the weather was not very hot. The only thing I have to deal with immediately was plantar fasciopathy on my left heel. I felt terrible pain during the final 5K. I got the reward from my workouts, which made me so happy. Thanks my coaches and RC for their support and guidance, have a good day.

Robert Christensen ran the Cox Labor Day Run 10k and finished this race in the time of 57:19. This was a new personal record by 5 minutes 27 seconds.

This is my first 10k under 1 hour! I got to run it with my wife Susan (she also beat the 1 hour mark and achieved a PR!). The run felt good from the start and what’s amazing to me is this is faster than I’ve ever run in training. The RC “train slow to run fast” is definitely working for me.

Special thanks to Jamie for being my “pacing police” and keeping me on track!

Susan Spencer ran the Orleans Police 5-0 5K and finished with a time of 23:08, which was a PR by 61 seconds!

This was the second year this race has been put on, a fun gathering at the end of the summer season on Cape Cod. It starts and finishes at the Jailhouse Tavern and there’s live music and craft brews afterward.

Jarkko Vuorikoski ran the Kuopio 1/2 marathon and finished in a time of 1:39:12. This was a PR by 1:54.

This was just my tune up race for my real goal a month from now. The route was quite hilly also. Weather was fantastic and I had my kids, father, brother and sister cheering for me.

Javier Llerena ran the Trail Hog – Brazen Racing Half Marathon in 2:02, which was a PR by 11 minutes!

I finished 3rd place on my age group. Just Awesome!

Ann Riddle ran the Santa Rosa 1/2 Marathon and finished with a time of 1:58:56. This was a personal record by 1 minute.

Thank you Runners Connect for a great training plan that worked!!! It had been 8 years since my last race and 3 years since I did any sort of meaningful running. My husband was interested in this race so I decided I would also train with the goal of not walking during the race and hoped for a time of 2:15 or less. Well, instead – I had a PR at 1:58 and couldn’t be more ecstatic! They say at the starting line to “trust your training” – I did, and it worked. Thank you for a great training plan. I now have the racing bug and plan to do many more!
