Team RunnersConnect has an incredible weekend as team members record 11 Personal Bests

Heather Joe ran the Run for Kids Challenge 10K trail run and finished with a time of 1:09:30. This was a personal record by 3 minutes.

This was my second trail race. I am not really “racing” these trail races yet. I am running them to learn because they are so different than road racing especially since they are all super hilly here. Most are on the biggest mountain in town. I did manage to come in as the 10th woman which was alot better than I expected since I was sucking wind alot of the course from stomach troubles. These races are awesome yet a huge challenge.

Alia Zaharudin ran the Disneyland Tinkerbell Half Marathon Weekend 10k and finished this distance in the time of 1:22:03.

I was thrilled to cross the finish line strong and healthy after a gap in training with injuries/illness. Plus running through Disneyland was magical, despite the downpour which stopped just before race started.

Carmen Lopez-Acevedo ran the Carrera de la Mujer Madrid and finished in a time of 45.19.

Wonderful race for breast cancer charity held every year in Madrid. It was my first time running this women only race, 6.3km and 34.000 participants. Also the first time racing with my 14 year old daughter which made it extra special. Unfortunately the weather was terrible, didnt stop pouring down with rain and quite cold but the atmosphere was electric. Also it was the only time I have ever raced without headphones and I must say it really contributes to feeling part of it.

Gayle Reynolds ran the IndyMini Half Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 03:00.

I had to back off on my training at the end because my knee was getting too painful to run. I ran the race and it was fun!

Rahim Theriot ran the Discover Bank Delaware Marathon and finished in 4:29:32.0.

This is the first race that I felt in total control physically in 3 years. The course was great, the race was well organized and supported by the community. It was a good running day. The race course ran through a park with a lot of trees and overhead coverage.

I finished in 4:29 minutes, 30 minutes faster than my training time. I felt great the entire way and kept a pretty steady pace most of the race at about 10:30 min/miles. My training combined with my nutrition plan really gave me what I needed to keep from “crashing” at mile 23, like I have in 4 other races.

The best and worst part of the day was that I ran the entire race without my Garmin watch that I left at home while packing for the trip. That was scary. I felt blind and didn’t know what my pace was for most of the race. There were some clocks on the course, but the I just kept to my plan to not push in the beginning and saved my push for the last 10k. By the end, I could have run 3 or 4 more miles. I felt great..

Thanks for the coaching! and I look forward to RunnersConnect helping break my 4 hour goal soon.

Cynthia Miller ran the Dirty Secret 10-Mile Trail Run with a finishing time of 02:14:00. This was a PR by 4 minutes!

I flew from Utah to California to run this race because I’ve never missed it since it started six years ago. After training a few months with RC, I thought I’d be able to run a better time than last year and I did by a few minutes. The race was especially good because I got to run with a friend I have been running with for 20 years and we haven’t seen each other since I moved to Utah 8 months ago.

Portions of this race are on the Western States Trail. The whole course is single or double track on rolling hills with two 1/2-mile climbs. I walked the two hills; they were steep! In the future I need to focus more on hills because that is my weakness.

The reason for the name “Dirty Secret” is that one of the trails is called the Secret Trail, and obviously we’re running in the dirt. It is a beautiful course with oak trees, shrubs, and open green meadows. I love the course.

Fred Beers ran the Revel Mt. Charleston Marathon and finished with a time of 3:11:29. This was a new personal record by 10 mins 42 secs.

I PR’d and BQ’d in this marathon which was fantastic! I BQ’d in January by 2 minutes but I wanted to be sure I could get to Boston. I ran this marathon in hopes of BQ’ing by 5 minutes but I ended up BQ’ing by 10 minutes so I’m really happy. I also PR’d by over 10 minutes which is amazing.

The run itself was great as it started snow just as the race started. Most of the race was really beautiful as we ran through the mountains just outside of Las Vegas.

Thanks to all the RunnersConnect coaches and all the other RunnersConnect runners!

Tony Malinauskas ran the Spartan Beast Obstacle Course Race (Half Marathon) and finished this race in the time of 4:40:22.

I finished 4th of 46 in my age group, and top 17% of all males (almost 2800), even though I’m in a master’s group. This was an obstacle course race through woodlands that also featured deep mud, swamps, and hills so steep we had to climb on all fours. Overall, it was one of those challenging and exhausting races that you get a big sense of accomplishment when finishing in one piece.

Lindsay DiMarco ran the Bull City Run, Rock, and Roll 5k in 20:45, which was a PR by 12 seconds.

This is technically a PR for me of about 12 seconds, although my watch had the course a little short. This was my fastest 5k in a few years and a lot faster than my 5k two weeks ago. I also felt way stronger and confident during this race than I ever have during a 5k. The slow easy runs and 5k specific training are starting to pay off! I was just so happy to have a good run but I also happened to take the women’s win which was really fun and unexpected!

Brandon Tuss ran the Spartan Half Marathon, finishing this distance in the time of 1:45:29. This was a personal record by 3:45.

Set out to PB this goal race and I shaved nearly 4-minutes from my previous half; not bad considering the course was a bit on the hilly side. You couldn’t have asked for a nicer morning to run and the course was stunning! Dug deep the last few miles and even though the stretch included an uphill finish I crossed with a smile on my face! Many thanks to the RC coaches and community for pushing me to achieve this PB! It was a blast!

John Sheridan ran the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 10k and finished with a time of 49:59. This was a new personal record by 0:03:24.

This race was special because it was such uncharted territory. I’ve never run this fast, this far ever before. A couple years ago, I did my first 10k in 01:09:54; last spring I ran one in 53:23. I’ve been running for three years and most of my races have given me PRs. I know I can’t expect to PR every time I race, so I’m trying to learn as much as possible from these successes and enjoy this time in my running life, when such rapid gains are possible. It gives me great hopes for the Chicago marathon this October.

Simeon Bayles ran the Platte Clove Road Race and finished with a time of 29:40, which was a PR by 1:58.

3/3 on goals with spring races. Thanks to Coaches Casey, Jeff and Danny who have all helped with the planning. Goal was to break 30 minutes as my previous best time on this course was 31:38. This is a course which is 1 flat mile into a 2 mile hill climb gaining 1300 feet. Feeling strong and fired up for one more race this month later this month, a 15k.

Vicki Helwig ran the Avera Race for Breast Cancer 5k and completed this distance in the time of 34:57. This was a personal record by 4 minutes!

I ran the whole race without walking or stopping to rest, great accomplishment for me! I started out with a slow pace while watching other runners passing me by. I kept my concentration on my pace, thinking I will end up passing them at the end! For the first time, I ran three enormous hills and still felt I had enough energy to finish the race. It was interesting to me to listen to other runners talk during the race. One girl said to her friends go ahead and finish hard. Then a bystander yelled out you can beat her (meaning me) which gave me more of a reason to run faster at the end of the race. Super happy with my PR!! Thank You!!

David Hammar ran the M.O.M.S. Day 5K and finished in a time of 24:14, which was a PR by 25 seconds!

This event was put on by Memories Of Missing Smiles, a local support group for mothers who have lost children. Especially today on Mother’s Day this was quite touching. It was a beautiful cool, sunny morning with a great turnout.

Performance wise, I haven’t been running very long and this was my third event. I finished first in my age group for the third time and eighth overall but I’m a little disappointed since my goal was to finish under 24:00. Gives me something to work for next time!

Robert Christensen ran the Buffalo Boogie 10k and completed this distance in the time of 1:06:26, which was a PR!

Last year I was diagnosed with an electrical anomaly in my heart and low ejection fraction that put me at greater risk of sudden cardiac arrest. Three months ago I had a bi-ventricular ICD implanted in my chest which has synchronized my left and right heart ventricles and running feels so much better now. Never thought I’d ever finish a 10k race so finishing this one was particularly emotional.

This was my first 10k race so it was by definition a PR and the course and conditions could not have been better. We were shaded by beautiful trees in our Fort Worth Nature Center and I got to run the whole race with my wife by my side. She’s a marathoner and fellow Runners Connect member and has been incredibly supportive of my starting my journey to becoming a runner. Looking forward to the next one!

Brian Bigelow ran the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon and finished the race event in the time of 1:47:02. This was a PR by 4 minutes!

The first thing that made it special was that I was able to run with my youngest son, he is 28 and I am 60. This was a PR for me and it felt great. Another neat thing coming from this was that I was able to run negative splits, this was a first for me and it was great. Felt so strong the entire race and loved it. Then in looking at overall results I finished 23rd out of 611 in my age group, this really is something I am proud. This is a real accomplishment! I run to achieve my personal goals and that’s what is happening! It is now onto bigger and better things. Shooting for the marathon in November and will be more than ready for this. Thanks RC for everything that all of you do. You are the best, gig, Brian

Troy Hanson ran the Run New Prague Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:48:24.

In my home community and my first race this year. Nice day. My wife got to see me finish. Went out a little too fast, or wasn’t as ready as I thought I was. Missed PR by 1 minute 11 seconds. I need to keep up with my strength training and yoga for next race if I hope to PR. Going to try to also focus on nutrition before and during race.

Kevin Long ran the Bridgehampton Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:54:52.

It was my first race after three month’s of PT following the NYC Marathon. I’ve run this race twice before and it was a good measure of where I am in my climb back. While 7 minutes off of last year’s result, I was very pleased given I only had eight weeks to prepare.

Christina MacDougall ran the East Bay Mermaid Series 10k and finished in a time of 1:09:41.

This was the first race of any length longer than 3 miles (and those were all in highschool, so this is my first running race ever as an adult). I ran it as a practice race leading up to my half marathon in June. I have been running consistently for the last year, and this race was an excellent measure of my progress. One year ago this week I could barely run for 30 seconds…and it took me over 15 minutes walking/running to complete a mile. Today’s race I felt strong and confident and finished well. It was a little slower than I had hoped, but I’m still extremely happy with my performance, especially given that the entire race was on gravel and I mostly run and train on asphalt. Beautiful race scenery too!

Kim Campbell ran the Philadelphia Broad Street Run 10 Miles and finished the distance in the time of 1:33:29.

The last time that I ran this race was in 2001 when I was 31 years old. My goal was to beat my younger self (1:27:24) and establish a new PR. While I didn’t beat my previous time, I finished with a respectable time (1:33:29). Considering the near freezing temperatures and heavy rain throughout the entire race, I’m satisfied with my performance. I must admit, I wasn’t accustomed to running in colder temperatures, even though I grew up in Philadelphia. Nevertheless, the sights, sounds and crowd support during the race was amazing. It really helped to keep me motivated to complete the race. I’ll certainly be more prepared for the weather when I run my first full, the Philadelphia Marathon on November 20, 2016.

Sandeep Lele ran the Zurich marathon and finished with a time of 4:35:11.

I followed the race plan for till 21 km where I was supposed to be slow by 5 secs per km than my race pace, keeping in mind my successful fast finish long runs. I started picking up pace, where I realised the energy just wasn’t there, my thighs felt like cramping , I took a km at a time, tried again… But I couldn’t… Then I followed a 800 m run and 200 m walk pace till the end. I practiced for this marathon in temperatures between 26-32 degree celcius, and my bad luck the temp was minus 5 on race day (it was supposed to be in the sweet 15 degrees).

Courteney Schinbeckler ran the Mini Mega Challenge Half Marathon and finished in a time of 2:26:29.

I completed the Mega Mini Challenge which was to run a 5K and immediately after complete the half. I was able to complete the half a little slower than my normal pace, but had a blast challenging myself to do more.

Courteney Schinbeckler ran the Mini Mega Challenge 5k and finished with a time of 30:02.

I love running the Indy Mini Marathon. It was fun to do a 5K immediately before doing the half.
