3 Personal Bests highlight the weekend for Team RunnersConnect

Christopher Stacey ran the IAAF/Cardiff University World Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:28:45, which was a PR!

First Half Marathon and it was a Worlds in my home town.

Thanasis Kypraios ran the Attica Grand Prix – 3rd Race (10k) and finished in a time of 45 minutes.

A friend asked me to join him to a 10K race, in order to break his 10K PR. For me, it would be like a steady run, staying within my easy pace. The race was held next to the sea, in our usual training playground. Nothing else to mention, I am getting ready for my 5K challenge on April 17th. In 2016, my training regimen has been a little mess, and I blame only myself for this. I have taken part in many races (from a 50K and a couple of trail races until a HM and yesterday’s 10K), but I have not regretted it at all! I consider 2016 to be full of fun races and compulsive running. I think we all need some of it!

Dean Morley ran the River Thames Spring Half Marathon and finished the distance in the time of 1:26:53.

Whilst this wasn’t a PR for me, I did come first in my Age Grade group (50+) and placed 14th overall (out of 408) – and managed this with storm Katie to contend with (gusts of 50mph). The conditions did probably affect my time a bit – tail wind out and head wind back, but looking at my paces, they gradually improved over both the out & back; especially pleased about endurance over second half into the wind as improving paces and overtaking 5 people.

Jørgen Grøndal ran the Easter marathon and finished with a time of 04:47, which was a PR!

My first marathon, which actually was a tune-up race. Was unsure what to expect. I overestimated my own ability a little bit, but all in all, super happy. (Before starting I estimated to finish in range of 4:30 to 5:00)

I was self supplied throughout the entire race, meaning I brought 3L of water mixed with my carb powder. I was not able to get a negative split, but still super happy being able to run the entire thing. First half at 2:21, second half in 2:26. It was harder than I expected, but I am still looking forward to the upcoming 60K ultra in June! 🙂

I am so grateful for all the help from both the RC coaches and RC members. It is inspiring and motivating, and I am so happy to finally have gotten running as a hobby I enjoy.

I definitely have to get some hip strength training in.. That is were I feel most hurt. Also really stoked about having finished this in minimalist shoes. After countless hours of reading and studying, it is nice to see that knee problems I had 1.5 years ago are gone, and that my high cadence (175+) form can last through a marathon! 🙂

Leslie May ran the Memorial Brunch Run and finished this race event in the time of 32:45.8. This was a personal record by 4:00.

Confidence builder after the Seabrook Marathon where I ran slower than I wanted. Maintained pace with splits of 7:53 8:08 8:24 and 8:12. No pain, felt great.

Ken Davis
ran the Tomoka Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K and finished in 3:49:29.

First race ran with RC coaching! Honestly, there wasn’t enough time since my last marathon (BQed with a 3:43, 11 weeks ago) to train adequately. Having said that, I was very skeptical with several aspects of the program. I.e. no really long runs 20+, never pushed me to run fast for anything over a mile or two, called for negative splits, etc.. No more! Easiest race ever, until the weather conditions beat me down and I threw up (sorry) a gel. Lol. Still BQed though, just slower than my last! All things considered… very happy and quite satisfied. Thanks RC for the help. *Special shout out to coach Jamie Dodge for always being there in short order, staying interested and enthusiastically keeping me informed and positive. Thanks so much Jamie you’re worth every penny and more!! The course and weather (drizzling rain over much of the way and temps in the mid to high 60’s) were much tougher than my last. Long high bridge 1/2 mile from the finish line, took my last drop of mojo. Haha. Did the plan work?? I’d have to say this, ya just can’t plan for everything and particularly in an inadequate time frame. All in all, YES! The plan worked great and more importantly, I learned a LOT along the way that can be applied to my next race. Likely in November. Wish me luck and give yourselves a pat on the back for all of your racing/training stories. They inspired, taught and touched my heart. You ALL rock!
