11 Personal Bests Highlight the Fantastic Weekend of Racing for Team RunnersConnect

Barbara Rose ran the Light at the end of the tunnel Marathon and finished with a time of 4:20.

It was beautiful, all trail, quiet and a gentle 2% downhill marathon. We lucked out with the weather too! Unfortunately, I started getting strong Charley horse cramping the last 5 miles. I had to run/walk until the end.

Emily Pilotte ran the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon and finished in a time of 3:21:53, which was a PR!

This has been a bucket list race for a while and it feels surreal to have completed it. The whole course is quite challenging and my goal was to enjoy it, which I did. I knew the swim would be interesting and it was- huge waves made it extra tricky (we all took in a lot of water, which made for an uncomfortable stomach for the rest), but you never know what you’re going to get in the Bay. The ride was really hilly but the scenery was out of this world. The run was also really challenging- lots of stairs (up and down) and hills, including the infamous sand ladder. Was really cool to be a part of this and I’m very grateful to Coach Danny for helping me prep for it. And somehow I finished 8/41 in my AG.

Geoff Hablow ran the Walkway Half Marathon and finished this distance in the time of 1:54:11.

This was the 2nd running of the Walkway Marathon and 2nd time I ran the Half. Race attracts 2600 runners with about 2000 for the half/marathon and 600 for 5K. This year WWI bombers did a flyover which you don’t get to see too often. Just a very well done and organized race.

While the day started off with no wind and high humidity, by the time I got to the bridge (mile 8 -10 as down and back) the humidity had dropped and the winds were a steady 20mphs with gusts higher. All in all, good race, lots of learnings that I need to focus on for my marathon this fall.

Eugene Raymond ran the Market Square Day 10K and finished with a time of 00:55:32, which was a PR!

Obviously it was my first and you know what they say, you never forget your first. I had a stated goal of an hour an internal goal of 57:30 and I beat both goals. I’m extremely happy with the results and they should only get better!!!!

Marcos Albuquerque ran the Maratona Internacional de Porto Alegre Marathon with a finishing time of 3:39:17.

I’m happy with the result in Marathon Porto Alegre 2016. The temperature was very cold and this causes uncertainties (0 ° C = 32 ° F), but not hurt. Windy too, but ok. Flat course with few elevations. Good organization. It’s a great marathon.

I finished doing exactly what I thought I could afford. Concludes the race in 3:39:17. It’s my second slower brand, just faster than the debut in 2011, but it was like a personal record today. It was difficult to train for this race because I had a year of hard work and some other complications. I’m glad that no injuries in the last two years. I am very happy because I feel that I will return to train well. It was a victory for me complete this marathon that way. 🙂

Kerry O’Toole ran the Walkway Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:43, which was a PR!

Jørgen Grøndal ran the Ultrabirken, Norway and finished the race event in the time of 9:01:03, which was a PR!

What an experience this was. The absolute hardest thing i have done, but I did it. So why did a 60k race become 63.75? Well, at 9km in, I did not see a direction sign, and ran Almost 2 km down a road which I had to backtrack. =/ Mentally this was a real hard blow. The cut off at 25km was 4 hours, and I had to push really hard to get there due to my error. My watch reported 30.5km when I got there 3:50 in. Lucky the cutoffs were easier later in the race, so I could relax. Ran the final 5 km at a decent pace, it was cool to feel my desire to finish just take over.

Total climb was around 1100-1200m, and total descent around 1800m. And a lot of technical trails. I did not get any blisters or chafing. Sore thighs, but other than that, very happy. I am very grateful for all good advice, and supportive comments from the community. 😀

Gary York ran the Buster Britton Sprint Triathlon and finished in a time of 1:24:10, which was a PR!

My first triathlon: 400 yd swim, 12m ride, 3m run. I enjoyed the people and the race. The swim went better than expected, and I managed the bike ride on a hilly course. The run was on a trail, so my paces were slower than I expected, but I passed many runners and finished 10th in my AG. The tri training was a fun break after years of marathon training. I might do another one day.

Keneika Rowe ran the UP Run for Life 2016 (5k), finishing this distance in the time of 35:56. This was a personal record by 7 minutes!

This race was to support organ transplant patients. My goal was to run it within 35mins or less. I am happy about my accomplishment. I plan to go sub30 in future races. I am proud because I beat my previous time by 7mins.

Juan Carlos Calatayud ran the Corriendo a tu lado 20k and finished this race in the time of 01:41:06. This was a PR by 5 minutes.

After being long time without racing (near 1 year), this was a very good race for me. I started very strong, I felt really well so I completed all my first 10K below 5:00 minutes. I started loosing gas by the 15k, the course was hilly from (13 to 18), anyhow, I’m happy, I just need to gain more experience and apply good race strategies, currently I only run. I’m sure that with your guidance I can be better. Thanks a lot for your coaching, in less than 4 weeks, you make me run faster than ever, and there are still good chances to improve, Thanks RC!!

Karen P ran the Run GC 10k and completed this distance in the time of 48:39. This was a new personal record by 5:05.

This is a small but very well organised race. It’s a nice contrast to my goal HM in 3 weeks which is a huge international race. We warmed up on the track which has been recently groomed for the Commonwealth Games. This was only my second 10k. I raced the same event last year but got zapped by the heat, dying badly through the second half. This time it was a windy but cool day. I pushed a little faster than my pace plan to bank some time for running into the strong wind in the later kms. But I was pleasantly surprised to be able to maintain consistent splits without too much suffer factor. My final km was 30 secs faster, likely helped by the track finish. My goal was to run under 50 minutes so I was super happy. I’m pleased to have this as a guide to planning my HM pace.

Luis Cifuentes ran a 5k race in Salamanca (Spain) and finished with a time of 17:50, which was a 20 seconds PR!

Tough rolling coaster course for this 5k race that felt like I was working hard since the very beginning. I did my last cutdown workout in this venue and I knew I’d better focus on average pace and perceived effort than on km splits. Last 800m were hard and did not find that final kick as in my previous HM race but managed to keep pace and gave it all.

Anyway, satisfied because it’s been a 20” PR and a good training cycle where I have learned a lot and worked on a completely different energy system from last HM and my next A goal race: a fall Marathon.

Rooney Kelly ran the Guelph Lake 10km Trail Race, finishing this distance in the time of 59.19. This was a PR by five minutes.

The weather and scenery was beautiful. The race began beside a lake without a cloud in the sky. It was 11 degrees which made for a perfect running temperature. I enjoyed this run except for the MONSTER hill at the starting line. It showed me that I have it in me to do better. A huge congratulations to the woman who walked the 5km race with severe cerebral palsy. I found her to be a true inspiration.

Patrick Callahan ran the Lawyers Have Heart 5K/10K (5k) and finished the race event in the time of 29:11, which was a PR by 33 seconds.

Although this is one of the largest 10K in the region I selected the 5K with a goal of improving on my previous time at this distance by 1 minute. Did not quite make it but improved by 33 seconds over first 5K this past April. Also managed to raise $250 towards American Heart Association and American Stroke Association.

Katie Kurz ran the Stockholm Marathon and finished with a time of 4:11:04.

The city of Stockholm, Asics and the other sponsors made this a sensational marathon. Mother Nature helped too…it was picture perfect weather – lots of sunshine and 19 Celsius.

Ending in the 1912 Olympic stadium was quite emotional – mentally and physically. While I’m disappointed not to have broken four hours (which was my goal for this race), I was pleased that I was able to rally after a tough knee pain around 36 km. I kept repeating the Asics mantra “want it more” during those final kilometeres.

I shared the weekend with a fellow runner and RC member, Natalie Biasin, who also ran. We made the most of every moment in the city during that long weekend. In particular, we had a great time cheering on those runners who were finishing up the marathon (around 5.5 hours). We created quite a scene but to see those runners smile in response to our cheers was awesome. So many different nationalities making a phenomenal effort to cross that finish line.
