A fabulous July 4th weekend for Team RunnersConnect as athletes brings in 7 Personal Bests

Paulo Correia ran the Circuit of the Seasons – Winter 10 Miles and finished with a time of 1:26:46.

This was my first time I ran a 16K race. The weather was great because the winter (15-18oC) came to São Paulo (Brazil). I felt strong and I ran to get my best average pace ever. My last 3K were under 5min/K and my average pace was 5m25s/K (my personal record).

I am very happy with this result. I was faster than ever and I did not felt any pain at all. The secret is well-known for any RC member: combine strength and stretching routines to the running schedule. I thank all RC community and coaches for this amazing on-line atmosphere we have here. I’m very proud of being part of it.

Karen P ran the Gold Coast Airport Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:46:41. This was a personal record by 1:53.

Clear, sunny, still, 10-12C (50-54F) and flat and fast. We set off at 6am running the first half an hour in the dark. It’s an international race which attracted 8782 competitors this year. I was very pleased to PB by 1min 53.

I finished 21/343 in my 50-54 age group and 501 of 4828 female runners. I ran a mild negative split and was comfortable until 15k then lots of positive mantras pulled me to the finish. In the days leading to the race I was afflicted by both taper injury flare-up and fighting off a cold but my body got it’s act together for race day. I’m looking forward to doing some 5k training and races before winter (and pleasant running conditions) ends.

Laurie Householder ran the Hilton Head Firecracker 5k and finished this distance in the time of 21:25.

The hubster & I started off our July 4th with the Hilton Head Firecracker 5k race! Despite running a 21:25 (6:54 pace) and being the 2nd place Master’s female, today was a real lesson in the power of self-doubt and the excuses we tell ourselves. I was sweating after just a 1-1/2 mile warm up- at 7:30am it was so very hot already. Ran 1st mile right on pace at 6:46 and felt great. Mid-way through the 2nd mile when I know I have to start the positive self-talk through the fatigue, I was already writing my excuses for slowing down in my head… However, I finished the last .1 at a 6:00 pace, recovered quickly, and came home and ran another easy-paced (8:35 pace) 5 mile “cool-down” in 92 degree heat which all points to what I already know in my head… I just wasn’t willing to fight for it today in these conditions. So, now I’ve got to run another darn 5k to prove to myself I can get that sub-21 minutes. I never saw myself as an athlete when I was younger and now I’m on a mission, despite aging towards my mid-40’s, to see where my potential peaks. Other than motherhood, running has taught me more about myself than anything else in this life. Overall, placed #89 out of 1327 total runners, #9th female overall out of 601, 2nd place Master’s female.

Susan Spencer ran the Wellfleet Road Race 5 Mile with a finishing time of 39:12.

It’s the kickoff to a beautiful Cape Cod summer. Seven nasty hills, lots of sun but gorgeous views over the bay. I placed 2nd in women 50-59 with time on par with last year’s. I never run my fastest here but it’s always a good time.

Javier Llerena ran the Zoom Quarry Lake Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:50:39.

I finished 2nd place in my age division. I didn’t expected.

Marty Baker ran the Run For The Warriors 5K and finished this race in the time of 32:09.

The race started at 7:30 AM in historic New Bern, NC at Union Point Park. This was one of my slowest races of the year as I have not been training as I should. Because of this reason I joined RC and am already seeing improvements over the last 9-10 days as I have completed the workouts consistently. I look forward to continuing to see improvement as I follow the scheduled workouts and hopefully lose weight. I have put on 10+ lbs since I ran a 26:39 on April 30. I feel I am on the right track and am more motivated than I have been in a while. Thanks RC Team and Coaches!! Marty

Michelle Hall ran the 4th of July 5k and completed this distance in the time of 24:37.

I was using it to check my current fitness. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost a bit of fitness in the past year. Gotta get it back!

Luc Berthouze ran the Caterham Rotary 10k and finished in a time of 45:23, which was a PR!

First 10k so a personal record of some sort. Pleased to finish 10th overall (5th in my age group) but somewhat disappointed by my time. I find undulating races tough so I guess I will have to train harder 🙂

Alex Tran ran the Music City July 4th 5k and finished this race event in the time of 21:18.

Kari Ingebritsen ran the Red, White and Boom 5k with a finishing time of 27:56. This was a new personal record by 1:46.

This is a new PR for me. Coming off an injury I am very happy with the time. Beautiful run around the river in Minneapolis and over the Stone Arch bridge. It was great weather, even a little hot at the end. I had a great time with my husband and friends. My hubby didn’t train for this and did it in 25 minutes. He may have caught the running bug and wants to maybe do the 10 mile with me in October.

Terry Whelan ran the ID5k, Santa Clarita and finished with a time of 22:35, which was a PR by 10 seconds!

Running with friends. PR for course, life time age graded pr, still need 2:30 for absolute PR. I am especially pleased as I did not train for speed at all this last few months.

Anthony Boyadjis ran the Maplewood 5k and finished this distance in the time of 23:06.

Fastest 5k in 31 months. (Training with RC for 13 months). 33 seconds fastest than last year, and I was just training through.

Christophe Cadiou ran the Peachtree Road Race 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 41:48.

After 2 failed attempts at getting the real Peachtree experience (heat, hills and humidity), I was finally rewarded this year (78-80F, 70-72F dew point and something like 80-85% humidity). Not surprisingly, I ran a little slower than the past couple of years, which were unusually cool and dry. Looking at the bright side, I finished 538th overall and 25th in my age group, which are both better than the previous two years. We will call that progress…

Michael Beavers ran the 4 for the 4th and finished in a time of 32:50, which was a PR!

Ran the 4 for the 4th with my son today. I won my age division (total surprise), he got 2nd in his age division. He ran somewhere close to 30 min. Basically I pace him for the first couple of miles then send him on his way. One day he won’t be able to outrun me! It was a very hilly course which played heck with my Achilles issues. My split times aren’t accurate. My watch apparently turned off after about 5 min. restarted it when I figured out what had happened. So, I only got the last 3.5 miles on it.

I did get a new unofficial 5k PR (25:12) out of it, which is about a 3:10 min improvement. Not to mention a PR since this was the first 4 mile race I have been in.

Dawn White ran the Independence Day 5K and finished this race in the time of 25:09.

I knew it was going to be hot and humid today and since I haven’t been doing any speedwork, I wasn’t sure what the outcome would be. I was about 1:30-2:00 slower than my normal 5K time but considering the heat, I am satisfied with my finish time. I did win 1st female Masters though!

Elise Reitshamer ran the Wellfleet 5 Miler and finished in 42:42.

This is a very small race, not a lot of crowd support, although those who live along the route are there with hoses to spray the runners who want it. It is an out and back with 5 hills from sea level to 80ft. So it’s basically 10 hill repeats of substantial size. Each year I wonder why the heck I’m running it, but always feel great at the end! If you find yourself in Wellfleet over July 4th weekend, I encourage you to give it a go!

Jon Douglas ran the Freedom Run 2016 10k and finished with a time of 45:50.

This was my first race since November, so it felt good to run hard in a race setting. I didn’t set a PR (second fastest 10K time), but it was my fastest 10K in 10 years so I’m happy with the outcome. This was a small race in small-town Wisconsin, which was a nice change from the bigger races. My first ever 10K in 1999 was on the Fourth of July (01:04:42), and I forgot how fun it is to run a race in the morning and grill out with friends and family afterwards. Next year I will bring my daughters to do the fun run and make it a family tradition.

Morgan Daulton ran the Bluegrass 10,000 (10k) and finished in 51:06. This was a personal record by 1:42.

I started a year ago with RC to train for this race. I did very well: 52:48, which was a big PR for me. This morning, one year later, I ran it in 51:06! I am very excited about my progress!

Today was a tough day for a race. I didn’t start as far up as I should have and spent the first mile weaving in and out of people. The weather was tough, but that’s typical on the 4th of July: 73 at the start, 98% humidity, and showers rolling through which gave us some clouds. These things make me very proud of my time because I think if I had “ideal” circumstances I could have done even better. I’m looking forward to the next race! 🙂

Michael Callow ran the Gold Coast Marathon and finished with a time of 3.19.26. This was a massive PR by 20 minutes 20 seconds.

Was aiming to run a qualifying time for Boston next year, which is 3.25 (am 48y/o). Fastness previous time was 3 hours 39.40 in 2002, so was going be a challenge. Look likes time will get me to Boston, managed to hold constant pace almost all the way (same can not be said for HR!)

Jim Paterson ran the Marauders Stars and Stripes 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 27:16.

This was a small race put on by the Bradenton Marauders – minor league team for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The race was well run and different since we ran through the adjoining golf course and around the baseball fields. It was a hot and humid day that made running tough. First 2 miles were good 8 minute pace but bonked on 3rd mile dropping to 9:24 pace. Did manage 1st in Age Group. Need to work more on running in the heat to finish strong.

Brad Wolfram ran the Firecracker 5k and finished with a time of 25:28.

Not a goal race for me or one that I have specifically been training for, I just like to race in 4th of July events. 77 degrees and sunny for 8:00a start. One 1 mile warm-up and a 10 minute porta potty line that got me to the start just in time. Not my best time this year but I am happy with the result on interesting course, first time here, Lago Vista, TX in neighborhood on shore of Lake Travis. Lots of curves and elevation changes. Could never see more than about 1/4 mile ahead so I didn’t know what was coming. Was never able to settle in to a steady effort / pace.

Mile splits were 8:23, 8:01, 8:29. I typically start too fast but held back this time. I was pleased with the way I ran the race overall. Picked off several people in the last 2 miles, did decent on the hills and didn’t get passed by anyone. Missed age group award by one spot. Did 1 mile cool down. I would run it again.
