Team RunnersConnect runs strong around the world and brings in 5 PRs over this weekend

Brian St.George ran the Longyear Lake 5k and finished with a time of 17:03.

This was on my 5k PR course from two years ago and I’ve been running and feeling great, so I was hopeful that I could set a new PR today. I’ve run all three of my 5k’s this year with very consistent pacing and finally overcome the slow 2nd mile that I’ve suffered from in the past. I’m finishing my 5k’s this year with mile 3 as my fastest mile….which is my race strategy. Although my time at mile 3 was faster than two years ago when I set my PR (16:26 vs. 16:31), my finish time was 14 seconds slower today. Two factors for this: course was .04 longer (according to Garmin), and I think I’ve become too dependent on my watch. I’ve become content with a 5:30 pace while racing…. I picked up the pace in the final 1/2 mile to around 5:15 and finished strong. I feel like knowing I was running under 5:30 towards the finish kept me from going as hard as I could. I’ll start by trying to look at my watch less and simply run until my legs have no more. As for the results: I finished 2nd overall to a 26 yr old who ran a 15:33.

Tom McCray ran the Philly Mayor’s Cup 5 Mile and finished this distance in the time of 39:19.

The heat index was near 100 degrees at the start of the race, so I was just happy to survive the three H’s (Hot, Humid and Hilly).

Danielle Nadeau ran the Seawheeze Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:59:33. This was a personal record by 2 minutes.

This was my first half marathon since I gave birth to my first child. It was also the first half marathon that I felt really strong going into (no nagging hip, knee or other such issues). I’m proud of both those accomplishments!

A good friend and I decided to make a vacation out of this run, so we enjoyed touring the city, hiking, kayaking and taking in some yoga a few days before the race. Needless to say, the night before we were already feeling a little stiff from the busy days! Wouldn’t change a thing, though, as we enjoyed every minute of it and still rocked a couple of PR’s! The course runs a long the Vancouver sea wall and was one of the most beautiful courses I have completed.

Mark Soo ran the 12th August Half Marathon and finished this race in the time of 01:50.

This is one of Bangkok’s most popular runs as its dedicated to the Queen on her birthday so the number of runners has increased dramatically.

I ran this with a running buddy of mine who is a little bit faster than I am so I thought this would be helpful. We kept up a reasonable pace for the first half. I was feeling strong at this point, a lot stronger than I felt at the same point in the race during my tune up race last month. 1-2 km’s after the turn I thought we could start upping the pace as I was feeling ok but my friend was starting to struggle a bit. We had run together from the start and it didn’t feel right to then just leave him. The pace slowed but we kept running for the most part and came in at 1:50. I missed the time targets I had set in my mind but I really enjoyed running with him, there will be other races where I can push for a target time.

I did feel much stronger in this race compared to the last one which was great. And it highlights that you have to trust in the training (thank you coaches for all the advice and feedback on my workouts).

Susan Spencer ran the Brew Run race and finished with a time of 44:04.

A traditional near-end of summer celebration on Cape Cod. An odd distance, 5.2 miles, an odd start time, 4 pm, and always hot, steamy and running into the sun for the first two miles (before hitting rolling hills). This year was particularly humid so I ran a controlled (read:slow) pace. But the free beer, homemade cookies and odd raffle prizes at the end – plus a chance to reconnect with old friends – makes it worth it. Placed 7th in F 50-59, not my best place or pace by far this year, but my legs felt strong and I had fun.

Ron Dawson ran the “Hottest Half” Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:39:53. This was a PR by 23 seconds.

This race was held in the Trinity river bottoms near downtown Dallas, as there are miles of cement trails for biking and running. It’s an open river flood zone with few trees. I ended up with a clock time of 7:37 average and a 1:39:53 time. That’s a PR by a mere 23 seconds! That race was the Dallas Rock n Roll Half back in March and the temp was 30 degrees! So setting a new PR when the last was 50 degrees warmer has me pumped. This was my last tune up race. Thinking I am on track thanks to runners connect!

Helen Ólafsdóttir ran the Vatnsmýrahlaupið 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 18:41.

This was a tune up race. Felt like I could do a little bit better. Was careful in the beginning and ran this race almost alone all the time. Now I would like to find another race and try to run for a PR (best in a official race 18:23 but I have run unofficial 18:05). Berlin marathon in the end of September and another tune up race next week. Looking forward to see if my goal pace for Berlin is realistic 🙂

Brandon Tuss ran the 7th Annual AvidXchange Music Factory 5K Rock ‘N Run and finished in 21:39.

Missed a PR by :02, but I ran the same race a year ago and shaved nearly two full minutes off of that time. My goal going in was a sub-23, and its safe to say I hit that! Extremely happy with my splits, all but one of the miles was sub-7. Missed an age group podium by 0:16 … not a bad day in the CLT! WOOT!

Simeon Bayles ran the Spitz-Blitz and finished the race event in the time of 25:08. This was a new personal record by 3:00.

This was a 1.6 mile race up the Hunter Mountain Ski Area. I’d never raced it before but in training my fastest time had been 28 minutes. I got 2nd place overall but first was out of reach so I was running by myself most of the way. Very hot and humid so while I put out in a good effort I think I could drop another minute or more under cooler conditions… next year. About 100 competitors and 2k raised for diabetes research so a great day and event. Did this race as training so back to work for more “targeted” races this fall.

Ridwaan Bardien ran the John Korasie 30k and finished with a time of 3:35, which was a PR!

21k was the furthest I ran. This one was special because it was 30km and a tune up race to my first marathon one month away.

Brad Batchelder ran the District 6 5k and finished in a time of 21:01, which was a PR by 27 seconds!

Daniel Powell ran a 5k race in Sherman, TX and finished with a time of 20:40.

85 deg and 95% humidity but won overall male masters in a 500+ person race. Great confidence builder!
