Team RunnersConnect racing strong in all distances as athletes record 16 PRs over the weekend

Ajay Anand ran the Sccm15 Half Marathon and finished the distance in the time of 02:25, which was a PR!

I was not able to run as due to achilles injury but recovered a lot so this was a very special run as compared to last year. But was quite uncomfortable with humidity in Mumbai so was not able to cope up as I had trained. Now looking for 7th Feb next half marathon target hope will be able to do better the way I got trained.

Allie Whitelaw ran the Half Full Races Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:34:06. This was a personal record by 9 minutes!

This was the first half marathon I have really gotten to race in a few years… It was a big PR but more than anything it was one of the first races where I really felt like I was able to stick to my plan, run a big negative split, and really push hard at the end. I started about mid-pack and gradually worked my way up towards the front. At about mile 8, there was a turnaround point and I could see how many people were in front of me. I counted 3 women in front of me and decided to try to pass at least one of them and make it into the top 3 for women. I was able to pass 2 and ended up the second overall which was really cool because usually I end up with an age group award but miss the overall. We got really lucky with the weather which was a huge help and overall it was just a great experience! I would like to make half marathons more a priority and really see how much I can improve my time! Big thanks to Coach Jamie for all of her help and encouragement!

Jerry Kurinsky ran the Chevron Houston Marathon and finished in a time of 3:28:09.

Not a PR but I had realistic expectations going into this one so I am not too disappointed. I started the race more conservative than last year but the effort felt harder than it should have for the paces I was running (confirmed by my heart rate) so I dialed it back further. I gave myself a break and cruised. The good news… I finished fairly strong, the weather was awesome, and I had a better time than the last 2 races.

Courteney Schinbeckler ran the Rock and Roll Phoenix Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:33:10.

Great race in my hometown!

Manish Dhruv ran the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 4:15:47, which was a PR!

I still can’t believe that I completed the marathon. It is a dream come true and still getting my head to believe it and my legs are screaming in pain reminding me that this has really happened.

I did not have a time in mind being my first marathon but thought 4:10 to be comfortable time to complete. As I do not use any gps watch, I printed a race-band with an easy start with first 4 Km at 6:15-6:30 pace and slowly get into 6:00min/km pace and lower if body allows. I somehow reached the half mark in 2:06 and was very happy; legs felt great and I thought that I am on course for a negative split finish and was super excited. I continued on the determined pace till Km 35. Then came the dreaded hill (bridge) with 60m elevation gain and my quads gave up and by end of 36 Km, I could not keep up to the pace. I did not look at the watch after that and just continued. I took 1Km at a time and just kept running and got scared that if I stop, I would not be able to run. With a single thought/mantra/chant in mind, kept telling myself again and again that “I am strong and I am going to finish”; I crossed the finish line and was elated.

I think my fuelling strategy went good. I drank at every water station(2Km) and fueled with 4 dates at every 45 minutes. Thanks to my coaches and fellow RC runners for the motivation, push and support for getting me this far. Yipee, I did it 🙂

Alison Scofield ran the Freeze Yer Gizzard 5k & 10k and finished the distances in 28:15, 1:00:17.

I ran the 5k and 10k “Freeze Yer Gizzard” races, which are part of the Icebox Days celebration in International Falls. Well, it lived up to the moniker “Icebox of the Nation”, as the temp at the start of the 5k was -12, real feel of -30! I was planning on just having fun with these races, as I had 9 miles on the training schedule for this day. I started out a bit fast for the 5k, but it was freezing and I wanted to be done! I kept thinking “I am NOT running the 10k!”

Fast forward an hour later, and I find myself lining up for the 10k in a fresh, dry base layer of clothes. I ran with a few running buddies for the first 2 miles before they sped up. I stuck to my plan of running easy, and managed to find another runner to tail for the rest of the race. In the end, it was a fun experience – one for the bucket list for sure! The exciting part is that I came in 3rd in my age group for the 5k!

Leslie May ran the Chevron Houston Marathon and finished with a time of 4:02:30. This was a PR by 13:52.

This is the first marathon where I experienced almost ideal conditions. Start was in the high 30s, it was sunny and cool throughout. Great support, ate my gels at 4, 10 and 15 and with plenty of Gatorade/rehydration stops I didn’t eat the last pack (so well hydrated that for the first time I had to take a potty break, at mile 19). My goal was to break 4 hours, which I did not quite achieve, but overall I was happy that I ran good splits with average pace of 9:15 min/mi, and my fastest mile was the last one at 8:52. Official splits by 5K (cumulative) were 5K 9:33, 10K 9:26, 15K 9:23, half 9:18, 25K 9:18, 30K 09:19, 35K 9:17, 40K 0:09:16, 26.2 miles 9:15. 15th in my age group.

Suhas Kulkarni ran the SCMM 2016 Half Marathon and finished in 2:15:33, which was a PR by 15 minutes!

It was special because first time I ran with proper coaching among 6 half marathon I ran one every year and all scmm. I started coaching just 45 days prior the race and with your able and scientific approach of coaching lot of knowledge given on every aspect. Queries regarding injuries we can ask on web to available coaches so all this made fun and easy for me and plan was superb and easy. This is first time I did not have any injury or pain your strength exercises worked well. This is what runnersconnect given me and I specially thank all of them!

Ralph Pillinger ran the Miramar Rotary 10k with a finishing time of 44:14, which was a 59 seconds PR!

Pretty big PR, making this season PR’s at all distances: 5k, 10k, 1/2 and full marathon. 1st race since being married and ran with my wife! Sets me up nicely for the BQ in 4 weeks.

Pam Carr ran the The Louisiana Marathon and finished with a PR of 4:34.

I PR’d by 4:34. I was the 11th overall female & won the female masters.

Deidra Petty ran the Louisiana Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:47:24. This was a personal record by 3 minutes!

This is not a PR for the Half marathon, but it is a PB for this well-promoted, Louisiana race. This race is special because my entire family makes signs and goes to scream their heads off.

This race I tried these Firsts:
1) running without a Fuelbelt
2) an egg on a bagel @ 2 hrs and 1/2 banana @1/2Hr prior
3) sipping on 32 oz Gatorade prior
4) Gu gel at mile 6
5) underdressing

The resulting lessons were:
1) had to use the toilet at mile 2
2) choked on water
3) walked thru water-stops
4) ran out of gas at mile 10
5) started too fast — no kick at end

In short, I had a very good race filled with lessons for the next one.

Kory Wnuk ran the Louisiana Marathon and finished this race in the time of 3:54:27. This was a massive PR by 26:19.

I went into this race being extremely tentative because of a recent groin strain and Achilles/heel issues. I wanted to let a comfortable pace come to me and not rush it. The first mile as recorded by my GPS was long compared to the mile marker. I hit hills on the upside by not trying to hold pace, but instead held level of effort. On the downside, I tried not to get carried away and run it too fast. My fueling and hydration was much better this year than last. My official results are as follows:

10K – 55:41 @ 8:58 min/mile
Half Marathon – 1:57:36 @ 8:59 min/mile
19 Miles – 2:50:21 @ 8:58 min/mile
Marathon – 3:54:27 @ 8:57 min/mile

The end result was a PR of 26 minutes-19 seconds. As an aside, my pace when I crossed the finish line was 6:49 min/mile. It sure was nice to have a little let in the tank at the end.

Kenneth Clark ran the Charleston Marathon and finished with a time of 3:57:27, which was a PR by 13 minutes!

Stuck with prescribed pace, and at 20 miles still looked like I could get my goal of BQ with time to spare. Unfortunately faded and didn’t quite make it , though still a PR by long shot.

Aaron Wagner ran the Carlsbad Half Marathon, finishing this distance in the time of 1:23:16.

Good race to see where I am at. Did a little better than I thought I would.

Michelle Hall ran the RnR Phoenix Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:40:15.

This race was fun, affirming and perfect weather. I missed a PR by 8 seconds but I ran this the best I could. I wanted to get a sub 1:40, but really did not know if that was possible. At the end of the race, I had nothing left, as it should be when you give it all your effort. I am happy that I could get so close to my PR 2 years ago after struggling with my training this fall and winter. I am happy and healthy and looking forward to my Boston training.

Debra Hexsel ran Aramco Houston Half Marathon in 1:43:34, which was a PR by 2:20.

This is where it all started. Ran my first full marathon here in 2012!!!

Started with 3:30/8 min pacer which was a joke. He was all over the place. Just ran my own race from there. If it was less than 8 on the watch I’d try to slow down. Perhaps in the end if I’d held it at 8 I would have had more to give. Started tanking with three miles to go but really bad with two miles to go. Probably walked 1:30 (really more like 2:00). uCan Bar in the car, uCan before the event, home made uCan gel at mile 8 (in training been doing mile 10 but I was running faster).Legs were feeling so very, very heavy. Someone nearby with 1/2 mile to go said keep going your doing great and I thanked her and took off. Saw the sign for 1/4 mile to go. That was the longest 1/4 mile I’ve run.

In the “good” parts of the race my form felt so darn good. I felt really good. All in all, good day, 779 over all, 210 women, 6 age group (oldest too). I’ll take it. Thanks Coach Sarah

Terry Wallace ran the Phoenix Rock and Roll 10 km with a finishing time of 53:20, which was a PR by 1 minute.

I ran this race simply as a tune up along my training to the Antelope Canyon ultra (55 km) in 5 weeks. My left leg has an artificial hip (implant date was 1998), and I have a very arthritic knee on that side. I was quite concerned that something major was wrong (like a failure of the prosthesis), and uncertain if I could run the 10 km. I worked on rolling my leg, and got up extra early this morning, and worked again on the legs. Come race time I was just fine. I worked hard, but did not push it – of course I regret that a bit now! Anyway, between now and the ultra it is all about endurance, not speed.

Ralph Caddell ran the Charleston Half Marathon and finished the distance in the time of 1:58:38.

Had to drop to the half marathon for a couple of reasons. I managed to get a bad sinus infection over the last week. The temperatures at race time were too high. Between the two there was no way I would be able to BQ. I did not come this far not to run so I dropped to the half and set a goal just to finish under two hours. I got that accomplished even though that was a struggle. Nowhere close to a PR but I can at least cross South Carolina off the 50 states list.

Angel Chavez ran the WDW half marathon and finished with a time of 2:48:01.

This race was all about the Goofy challenge. I finished 40 minutes slower than my PR but got lots of pics with Disney characters and considered it a dress rehearsal for my first marathon the next day 🙂

Angel Chavez ran the Walt Disney World Marathon and finished in a time of 6:09:25, which was a PR!

It was my first marathon and I have been injured. Also, I did a half marathon the day before… Both races I took very slow. Didn’t race at all and had fun…Just happy to finish!

Marco Abreu ran the Half-Full Race 10k with a finishing time of 47 minutes 5 seconds. This was a personal record by 13 minutes!

I’ve never been a fast runner. In fact, I was the slowest runner in middle school–no exaggeration. Running sub-8 min./mile is something I didn’t expect to do so soon after joining RC. In fact, before the race, I was going to make it a goal for next year.

Dan Smith ran the Chevron Houston Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 5:20:01, which was a PR!

This was my first marathon and it was awesome. This marathon was the pinnacle of a big lifestyle change that started for me nearly two years ago. At that point I couldn’t run continuously for a single mile. Running has changed me physically–I’ve lost over 40 lbs–and helped me realize how determined I can be when I set my mind to something. During the race, I ran with a friend and I decided to enjoy the crowds and the energy and not focus too much on making a specific time. I made it to about mile 16 before I even started to feel any real fatigue. Like everyone has said, that last part of the race was extremely challenging and took real focus to keep going each step, but the feeling of running across that finish line with friends, family, and the entire community cheering was amazing. Runners connect training definitely made a difference for me in accomplishing this goal. I’ll always remember to slow down on the easy pace days.

Chin Kok Lee ran a 4km relay, 2 sets each, 3-men team in Penang, Malaysia and finished with a time of 18:19 and 19:14. This was a PR by 1:50.

I was able to maintain 4:35 pace for 4km, hard effort, but ok. Finished strong. The two months training with RC helps greatly. This gives me the confident/feel good factor to push for PB for 10km (47~48min) and 21km (1H46min~1H48min), and 42km (4h15min) for 2016.
