Breaking the Tape: The Latest Race Results

And we have our first win of the year! Vicente Lorenzo Cabahug is the big winner. All we got for details so far was this:

1st place! oh yeah! 3.0 kilometers in 0:13:05

I guess not much more can be said of it. A win speaks for itself.

Vicente was one of many RunnersConnect team members out there getting it done over the weekend. Here’s a quick rundown of how your fellow runners fared in competition:

Britt Morgan ran an “interesting race” that ended up being 6.31 miles. He finished the “10k” in 47:40. Not bad for puddle jumping on slippery brick, which is what comprised 90% of the course. Brit mentioned how he didn’t feel great until almost half way through, like he “had asthma”. It just so happens that there was a recent blog post about exercise-induced asthma, which might be worth a read. Despite all that, he negative split the thing and ran a PR!

Brian Schmidt and Cathal Grant were back at it in Dallas, and this time it was for the Dallas Rock N Roll Half. The put up with tough conditions (temps in the low 40s with 20+ mph winds) and ran some impressive times. Brian ended up finishing 12th overall in 1:15:17. This was also part of a 20 mile day for Brian and he  got in 4.5 miles before and 2.5 miles after to complete the day’s work. Cathal finished in 128th place with a time of 1:29:37 and just missed winning his age group by 10 seconds! Cathal ended up third, which mean it must’ve been a busy ten seconds for that age group.

Dannis Hughbanks raced 10K and finished with a 39:26. Although the race wasn’t a PR, he ran smart and with good attitude. Can you ask for much more than that?

Yannis Katsandredakis ran his very first race. You never forget your first time. It was an “unbelievable experience!!” He just missed his target pace, but not by much(only 6 seconds). Yannis ran 41:00 for the 7.1 km race. His splits were impressively even and he even finished ferociously fast. Congrats Yannis!

Fredrik Ohlin did make it to the start on time, but still ran really well despite having to fight his way through the masses. Being the last person to cross the starting line certainly puts one at a disadvantage, but you wouldn’t know it from the way he ran. Fredrik ran a new 10k PR of 40:31, almost caught the winning female and finished 12th overall.

Bobbi and Ric Spargo ran the Arizona Distance Classic Half Marathon. Bobbi’s IT band flared up and instead of continuing on to a potential hard earned PR, Ric stayed with her to walk the last couple of miles in. The hills seemed to have been the culprit, since inclined surfaces are an endangered species in their neck of the woods. They’re a tricky beast and stuff like IT band issues can certainly pop up when you finally do encounter them. Kudos to Ric for being an “awesome husband”!

Norman Speicher raced the  HAT 50K in Susquehanna State Park (Maryland), which is a trail race with deceptive elevation change (~8200 ft). Due to some (possible) fueling and/or hydration issues, Norman felt a little light headed and somewhat disoriented passing the last couple of aid stations. Despite that, he just missed sub-5:00 (5:06:24), and dropped approximately 90 minutes from his previous 50K. That is impressive, sir!

A great weekend of results leaving us with more than a few things to celebrate. For those who ran, congrats! It’s great to see your hard work paying off. For the rest of you, we look forward to seeing you compete and helping you along the way.
