5 PRs, a Boston Qualifier, and Amazing Debuts Highlights the Racing Weekend for RunnersConnect

Buddy Gray ran the Tobacco Road Marathon and not only ran a 3 minute PR but ran his first BQ time with a finishing time of 3:22:26. Reaching his goal of running a Boston Qualifying has been meet with so much emotion by Buddy as this has been a long time goal since his younger running years and missing his goal in the fall by 30 seconds. Buddy kept working towards his goal this winter even when work stress, weather and illness threaten to derail his efforts. He experienced an amazing race where he was helped by another runner in the finals of his marathon to meet his goals.

BuddyI could never be more happy with what I was able to accomplish in yesterday’s race! 🙂 My family is really proud of me as well!

Bas van Delft raced a half marathon in 1:26:45 which was a 2 minute and 44 second PR.

basFirst warm day of the year, really nice track just off the coast. Although the last few km’s were quite hard and pacing was suffering, I still overtook other participants who were losing pace even more. So the workouts from RunnersConnect are apparently paying off to be this strong. I really love it and am very pleased with the result!

Howard Lurie ran the New Bedford Half Marathon in 1:59:20 in prep for the Boston Marathon. The aim for was evening pace and saving enough for the huge uphill in the final mile.

HowardNot a PR, but tried to keep from going out too fast in order to have more in the tank at the end, and was able to do this.

Jason Bryant ran the Seabrook Lucky Trail Marathon his first marathon in 4:14:33. The conditions were brutal as it had rained hard the day before which the 4 loop gravel trail very muddy and about an hour in the race another line of thunderstorms (and even some hail) moved through the area and things got REALLY messy.

JasonI signed up for a marathon, but ended up doing a mud run! It all made for a memorable first marathon experience.

Pebble Williams ran a 5K in 33:21. She ran with a friend and didn’t go for a PR but rather a great race experience with her friend.

PebblesThe momentum and success of a race was motivating for me to stick to the training for my May Half-Marathon. I felt so good after the race, even though my quads were burning that for my “cool-down” run, I ran it again.

Mike Sheridan raced the Goring 10K in 41:52 as part of a 20 mile training run in prep for Boston.

My finishing time of 41:52 was good enough to beat the 2009 V60 course record, but only good enough for 3rd V60 and 48/784 overall.

JC Sawyer ran a 10K in the time of 44:46 which is a huge PR by 8:38. She placed 3rd Female overall and 1st in her age group with an average pace 7:03.

JCAfter participating in the Tufts 10K last October I joined Runner’s Connect in order to train smarter, increase my fitness level, and become a stronger runner. This was my goal race for my first training segment with RC, and the work paid off! I’m thrilled. Not to mention how amazing being part of a supportive community has been. The whole combo has provided me with the opportunity to be more successful! Thanks to everyone.

Jim Welland ran the Cincinnati Heart Half marathon finishing in 1:55:27. Running in frigid cold conditions with wind whipping around on the course and unfortunately stepped on a rock and fell during his warm-up. Luckily he was not hurt and was still able to put in a strong effort.

JimFortunately, I didn’t get hurt so was able to run a normal race but learned a lesson from the experience. Feeling OK today and ready for the next race.

Frank Williams ran the challenging and hilly Rock N Roll DC Half Marathon in 2:02:51 which was a PR by 7 minutes 18 seconds. The course was very crowded and Frank patiently waited for the crowd to line out to pick up the pace. There were several huge climbs in those middle miles that tested Frank but he was able to hang and finish with a huge PR.

FrankOn May 12, 2013 I went out on my first run to begin training for my first HM. This run was just over 2 miles and was complete at a pace of 12:07. Here I am 10 months later running nearly 3 minutes per mile faster over a much greater distance! Race medal is hung, recovery week is underway and looking forward to seeing what I can accomplish next!

Brian Schmidt raced this 5K in overall time of 16:47.

This was the first time I won the masters category in the Dallas Dash Down Greenville 5k. There were roughly 7,000 participants and I finished 13th overall. I struggled the last mile but given how little fast workouts I’ve done recently I was satisfied with the overall time.

Nancy Thomas ran the Across the Bay 12k in 48:51 which goes over the Golden Gate Bridge from Sausalito into San Francisco which makes it a hilly route.

I ran 83 miles this week including a hard track workout on Tuesday and a 20 miler up Mt Tam on Thursday so I was pleasantly surprised to PR and win the masters race!

Simeon Bayles ran the New York City marathon finishing in 1:30:07 which was slightly off his goal time due to a need to stop right before his finish which cut his a couple of minutes.

SimeonMy primary goal had been to get under 1:30 and so it’s tough to be disappointed with this performance.

Sean Nyhan ran his first half marathon this weekend with a finishing time of 1:38:59 which exceed his goal by several minutes.

Great race day for my first half! 1:38:59

Russell Friedberg had a big weekend racing 2 half marathons back to back. First up was the Rock and Roll USA in DC finishing in 1:33:31. Next up was the Tobacco Road Half marathon where he finished in 1:32:07.

RussellComing off a decent race yesterday, sure am quite happy. PR coming on 5/3 I hope.

Ricardo Lopez ran the the LA Marathon last weekend where the conditions were record breaking heat and bright sunny conditions. He finished with an impressive 4:10:25.

RicardoI wouldn’t say it made it “special,” but the unexpected heat did make it memorable. I whimsically registered a week before and went at less than 100% with the desire to conquer my demons from LA26 last year when I had an Achilles injury.

Claire O’Halloran ran a 5K as a tune up race in a time of 26:06 which gave her a 59 second PR. She decide to run on effort given this was a tune up race.

It’s nice to see improvement though as my training was interrupted in February which I felt set me back a lot, at least I know I am still moving forwards
