4PRs, Several Age Group Awards and a BQ time achieved for Team RunnersConnect.

Ron Darin ran the Standard Charter Dubai Marathon in Dubai, UAE finishing this race distance in the time of 3:30:32 which is a PR by 15 minutes.

RonDarinRan my 3rd marathon in 10 months and 2nd in 10 weeks at the “World’s Richest Marathon” in Dubai. Very cool to run in a race with so many elite runners. First place paid $200K and was won at 2:05ish. So many different nationalities at the start line made this so unique for me. Weather was perfect, course is flat as a pancake, and finally got all my gear and prep issues ironed out. Set a new PR of 3:30:32 by 15 minutes. Yes the 32 seconds is more than a bit annoying given this was a BQ race 🙂 Ran 22 virtually effortless miles but had some issues down the stretch but proud of a push at the end. Race marked the 1 yaer anniversary of my starting to run after 30+ years away and a 90 lb. weight loss. While I did alot of work, this was not achieved alone. The RC community and coaching played a huge role in where my running is at today. No way this happens on my own. With 2 marathons 10 weeks apart and me not exactly being a spring chicken, Coach Jamie put a terrific plan together and provided the right feedback along the way to get me ready to run a great time and a really enjoyable race. A simple thank you seems insufficient, but I am extremely grateful for the coaching and support from RC.

Sean Regan ran the Securian 10K Winter Run in Saint Paul, MN finishing in the time of 42:38 which was a 30 seconds PR in the 10K distance.

seanFelt like this tune up race went really well overall. It was a PR by 30 seconds, which is good. I stuck with my race plan the entire way. Stayed in control, running the first mile a bit slower than goal pace of 6:45/mi. Then gradually continued to speed up for a negative split. BUT…I was at first confused and then disappointed in my finish time. As it turns out, my Garmin must have been significantly inaccurate. And I was entirely depending on it for pace, and tracking finish time. It had me finishing the 10K in 41:30, which was signficantly better than my goal of getting under 42. I thought I was in great shape! But it wasn’t to be 🙂 Official race time was 42:38. That was consistent with the total time on my Garmin. Except the Garmin had me running 6.4 miles, instead of 6.2. And there’s no way the Garmin distance was accurate. So live and learn, I guess. That’s what tune-ups are for, right? Next race, I’ ll be resetting my lap counter every time I run by the mile markers, so that I have a better ability to measure how accurate my Garmin pacing is on the day. Then I can speed up or slow down accordingly. But again, overall I’m happy with the race. I stuck with my race plan. And it felt easy, so the best is yet to come.

John Gardener ran the Team Pursuits 10K in Crymych, Wales, UK finishing in the time 52:15,

JohnGRan last year suffering from Plantar Fasciitis in 53:00 so you could say my time this year was a PR for the course! It was an unusual race because there was 15 secs interval between each runner. The organiser tries to grade the runners so that the slower runners go first and the faster runners pursue them! Clubs enter teams of 5 runners, so the team with the best overall time wins. Our Club, Pembrokeshire Harriers, entered 4 men teams and 3 ladies teams, but we didn’t win!!

Lisa Thomas ran the Matanzas 5K in St. Augustine, Florida finishing in the time of 22:08 which put her first in her age group.

LisaTI haven’t run a 5K since September 2014 and had been training for a marathon. This was a tuneup race to see where my fitness is in the 5K. My goal was to finish around 22:45 and I was able to beat that. It was a windy and rainy morning and I would have preferred to be curled up in a blanket with some hot coffee – but once the race got underway the conditions weren’t as bad as they appeared. I was also pleasantly surprised to find I had won my age group. It was a good race overall – even though one of my slowest times. I recognize that I can’t hold onto past performances. It’s time to improve upon what I can do at present. It was also exciting to hear that as I was approaching mile 2, the course record was broken with a 14:04!

Chris Carmody ran the Celebration Marathon in Celebration, Florida coming across the finish line with a time of 3:06 and took first in his Age Group.

I qualified for Boston. My PR is 3:03:53, but this felt good. 1st place in my age group.

Ben Lundell ran the Iowa Games 5k in Dubuque, IA finishing this race event in the time of 21:56 which was a PR by 49 seconds and 2nd in his Age Group award.

BenLThis was the first time racing the 5k distance as I have previously only raced 4 mile-marathon distances. The conditions were challenging with snow and moderate winds. The route was not posted ahead of time but was an out and back, so I had some sense of large uphill inclines on the back portion. I ran by feel and am happy with the results. This was the first time I placed as I got second in my age division. The races was small but I am proud that I have a good mileage base built up and I am out racing in January! I am hoping to further improve on my times with the great help of RunnersConnect and the coaches!

Shannon Lebeuf ran the Cobble Hill 10k in Cobble Hill, bc, Canada coming across the finish line with a time of 44:41 which place her 3rd in her Age Group.

This was one of an 8 race series on Vancouver Island, and our home Club sponsored run. Awesome race, hilly but great course. Felt string right through the finish. Perfect weather, 7C and clear. Less than a minute off my PR and even managed a 3rd place in my age group. I’m happy with that!!

Tia Supari ran the Standard Chartered Hongkong Marathon in Hong Kong finishing this race distance in the time of 4:43:01 which is a PR by 10 minutes.

TiaSThe view very nice, elevation quite challenging, weather nice but very windy. The logistic provided and the race course unique, went thru 3tunnels and 3bridges.  It is my 4th Marathon within 11months, since my first last March 2014.  My target was 4:45 so very happy! And thanks to Coach Danny!
