4PRs and many Age group awards highlights this frosty weekend of races February for Team RunnersConnect

Nikki Summers ran the Hot Chocolate 15k in Dallas, Texas finishing this race in the time of 1:27:24 which was a PR by 8 minutes.

NikkiSIt was a fun easy run with friends and family. Still was cool to get a PR too. It’s a fun race! Lots of sweets at the end.

Charlie Rhodes ran the Anderson Creek 10K in Spring Lake, NC coming across the finish line with a time of 42:58 which a PR by 3 minutes and 30 seconds.

CharlierhodesIt’s only my 3rd 10K, and the last one was 11 months ago, and I wasn’t really in great shape, so I expected a new PR, but this was even better that the time I was shooting for. I’m fairly new to RC (I think 6 or 7 weeks?). My RC training schedule was based on my last “not so great” Marathon time from November rather than some faster personal time trials I have under my belt, and I suppose rightly so. This tune up was my chance to put up or shut up regarding my actual physiological reality. So lucky me! Now, as a result of this nice race time, my future scheduled workouts have been toughened up quite a bit and look quite daunting, but I think I’ll manage.

Ben Lundell ran the B-rrry Scurry 4 miler in Clinton, Iowa finishing in the time of 26:48 which is a PR of 2 minutes and 46 seconds.

BenLI could not have ask for a better winter day to run a race! The temperature was 37F with a light breeze. The course was also flat and each mile marked with volunteers reading off cumulative time. I knew before and during the race that this was a perfect opportunity to see where I was at physically. I wasn’t sure exactly what pace I should run, so I went by feel in the first mile (6:48). This pace felt manageable for 4 miles and with it being an out and back of 2 miles I felt confident at the turn around. After about 2.25 miles of 6:48 or so pace I started to slightly increase the pace and focus on individuals in front of me. With a mile to go, I focused on the training that I have been doing and knew I could increase the pace and even have a good kick at the end! The result was a 26:48 for a 2:46 PR. I was really happy with my splits of 6:48, 6:47, 6:40, 6:33 and the fact that after the first 1.5 miles I did not get past while man aging to pass ~15 runners. I finished 14th overall and 3rd in my age division. I owe everything to Runners Connect and all the coaches. Since my previous 4 miler, I utilized Coach Jeff’s RunKeeper marathon training plan, went to Runners Connect camp at Zap and then started my current Runners Connect training plan! Without their expert knowledge and encouragement, I would just be running in circles instead of running healthier and faster. Thank you!

Pamela Chapman Markle ran the Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile in Huntsville Texas finishing this race event in the time of 26 hours and 53 minutes which placed 3rd in the Masters and win in her age group.

I set a course record for my age. Won age 55-59yr and Came in 3rd overall Masters

Kim Rankin ran the Best Damn Half marathon in Safety Harbor, Florida finishing this race distance in the time of 2:59:40.

KimRFrom a training perspective , this was a tune up race. For me it was huge because every other half I’ve done before I used Run/walk intervals. This was my first time trying to run straight through according to my RC race plan . Although I had a glitch where I ran part way off course, I had experiences I wasn’t prepared for. At a certain point I passed the runners I had been following and no one in front of them was in sight. I have rarely passed so many people . Felt good but unusual and I missed a unmarked turn . But in the end I accomplished my goal of running the whole time and was only a minute or so over my target finish time.  Plus the race itself was fantastic! Great perks for runners. Awesome weather too

Dennis Moore ran the Chocolate Rush Half Marathon in Olathe, KS finishing in the time of 1:55:28 which gave him a 3rd Age group award.

Dennis MooreA good training tune-up in spite of some ice and wind. Learned some important lessons (the hard way) about fueling and posture. No PR, but believe it or not I did end up 3rd in my age division, and 38 of 198 runners. But the first place runner in my age division was also the overall winner. Old dudes rule!

Noel Coss ran the Operation 5k in Tullamore, Ireland finishing in the time of 18:18.

I improved since my last race on 29th Dec by 32 secs. I am hoping to run again either end of Feb or early march. I have been under 18 a good few times in the past but I know I could have went faster last Sunday was a bit conservative as was first race of the year. So thanks again for all your hel

John Gardener ran the Ras Cors Caron 21.1K in Tregaron, Wales, UK finishing this event in the time of 1:43:20 which gave him a 2nd Age group award.

JohnGFirst time I ran this half marathon. Undulating for 12km then old railway track for 5km then 4.1km on the road again. Weather was cold but bright – good conditions! First time so Course PB!! I came 2nd in M60 category; 56 out of 128 runners.

Karen Plimmer ran the Parkrun Coomera 5K in Gold Coast, Australia finishing this race in the time of 24:24 which is a PR by 43 seconds.

This was my regular weekly 5k run at parkrun. It was my New Years resolution to run under 25 minutes. This pace was huge deal for me to hit because it was what I used to run as a teenager – OK glossing somewhat over that that was my training pace over elevations better described as mountainous. Fast forward 30 years where I never expected to be able to run again after nearly losing my leg in a motorbike accident. I trained for a few months and ran 25:07 in 2013. I started running again this time with RC 4 months ago. 2 weeks ago (before my taper began) I ran a difficult 25:19. Looking at my watch sucked out all my energy and I gave up when it said I was running slower than I actually was. A change of tactics was required so today I completely put my trust in my sister pacing me and didn’t look at my watch. I was expecting to really have to battle again from the 3k mark. I tried to run as relaxed as possible and the impossibly hard never c ame. This felt like a great race. We ran negative splits 12:17 and 12:07. This is a PR by 43 seconds. Thanks RC coaches.

Shannon Lebeuf ran a 12k in Cedar, BC coming across the finish line of this race in the time of 54:53.

ShannonLGood race, no PR but felt strong though. Lots of brutal hills, so felt it was good training for Boston.

Kenn Walker ran the Dirty Spokes Heritage Park 7.5 Mile Trail Run in Watkinsville, GA finishing this race distance in the time of 1:02:22.

Legs didn’t feel as fresh as I would have liked… feeling like I should have rested for 2 days before the race. Course was very technical, lots of loose rocks, lots of roots, lots of up and down.
