3PRs and several race debuts in the marathon and 15K for Team RunnersConnect

Jerry Kurinsky ran the Chevron Houston Marathon in Houston, Texas finishing in the time of 3:19:49 which is PR by 5 minutes and 41 seconds.

JerryKI didn’t manage the 3:15 BQ I was hoping for but achieved a PR by 5min 41sec and I broke 3:20. It was my 4th marathon and my 3rd consecutive PR. So I’m happy. I started to struggle around mile 22 (4 miles later than last year) and fought it the whole way to the finish. I tried everything. Surges. Latching on to people. (I touched the heels of the same person twice. My apologies were accepted on the course and after but I still felt bad.) I had a good plan but ended up having to run slightly faster to make up for the fact that you always end up running a bit longer distance on the course than the mile markers say. Not sure what the impact of that was. I realized I wasn’t going to achieve 3:15 around mile 23 but with less than a mile to go, the 3:20 pace group started to catch up and I realized I could still beat 3:20 so I poured it on and did it. I was spent at the finish. When I got home I immediately took a nap and it f elt awesome.

Aaron Sobel ran the Chevron Half Houston Marathon in Houston, Texas coming across the finish line in the time of 1:59:32 which is a PR by 7 minutes.

AsobelI had run a long training cycle for this race (back to June) because I really wanted to break 2 hours. There were times I had many doubts in my ability and the workouts I was asked to do. But it was trusting that training that built a stronger foundation and gave me the confidence to run a 7 minute PR in the Half.

Navin Kotan ran his first marathon at the Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon in Mumbai, India finishing this distance in the time of 5:32.

My first full marathon 🙂 And I finished !

Manish Dhruv ran the Standard Chartered Mumbai Half Marathon in Mumbai, India finishing this race in the time of 1:57:01 which is PR by 23 minutes.

ManishDStandard Chartered Mumbai Marathon is the biggest and the most prestigious Marathon in India and it was a complete awesome experience participating in it. Starting in wave ‘D’ at the start point among 11,802 participants was a feeling never experienced before and eventually completing in the top 7% overall was a humbling one.
In a big race like this it was a battle of nerves and keeping to your pace was tough as I felt everyone is running faster than you. I kept calm and let my breathing control my pace rather than my garmin. I kept my focus to myself, my posture, my arms, cadence, my breath and in between ‘garmin’. It was a culmination of all the workouts done + all the workouts missed. Thanks to my coaches – Jamie, Sarah, Danny for being with me all along; all my fellow runners at RC whose ‘likes’ and ‘comments’ kept me going; and my body which agreed to keep up with my crazy desire

Kory Wnuk ran his first marathon  at the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge, LA finishing this race distance in the time of 4:20:46.

Completed my first ever marathon distance race and I have to say that I am humbled. I started off a little too fast, but the run felt effortless. Initially I felt that I was were I needed to be in terms of pace. They say that the Louisiana Marathon is a flat course…not quite. I’m sure other courses have more, and bigger, hills, but I handled 90% of the hills like a boss. My feet and ankles were killing me by mile 16. By mile 18 I was having to stop and stretch. In addition to my feet and ankles hurting, my hamstrings, glutes, and hip flexors were making it very difficult to run. I also developed a catch in the middle of my back while at the same time experiencing a soreness in my lower abs (about where my bladder is located). Now when I breathe in deeply, it feels like I pulled muscles in the vicinity of my ribs. Somewhere between mile 18 and 19 I just wanted to quit, but somehow I managed to cross the finish line, even though I was quite disappointed in my performance. I think that I was fueling and hydrating properly (per my Nutrition Blueprint), but I don’t know for sure. Powerade was served on course with water, but I noticed that not all of the Powerades I drank were created equal. I do not know what it feels like to bonk, but I can tell you that after crossing the finish line and had a chance to sit down, I almost could not get back up by myself. Overall, I felt good at the start of the race. At no point was my breathing labored and the effort felt good…up until a point. After devouring some pizza and throwing on my compression socks, I am beginning to feel more like myself.

Trisha Hartstack ran her first marathon at the Louisiana Marathon in Baton Rouge, LA finishing this race distance in the time of 3:55.

This was my first marathon. My two goals were to run it in less than 4hr and not ‘hit the wall.’ I accomplished both. I felt great during and after the run. Even went to a party that night and danced a little. My quads are killing me today! Ha.

Mark Quebedeaux ran the Louisiana Half Marathon in Baton Rouge, LA coming across the finish line in the time of 2:01:11.

MarkQThe course, the people and the home town crowd. This is a very good event. It is a two (2) day event with a 5k and 1/4 marathon on Saturday and the Half & full marathons on Sunday. The whole family can participate since there is a run for everyone. The finish festival and the food it great.  Very good time. One of the best events we attend every year.

Brendan Crill ran the New Year’s Resolution Run 15K in Long Beach, CA coming across the finish line in the time of 56:57.

BrendanCrillThis was my debut at the distance and I am very happy with the result. I was not expecting much, given that this race is very early in my training cycle – I’m still building up my mileage – and due to a cold, my head felt like it was stuffed with cotton when I got up in the morning. I was still determined to give it a good effort! There were only about 100 other racers so I took the lead right at the beginning and never looked back. After a couple of miles of running hard I felt even more comfortable than I did at the start, so I kept up a pace that was considerably faster than I had planned, but I still had enough in the tank for a strong kick over the last mile. This is a fantastic boost to my confidence as I start to ramp up my miles in building towards the Boston Marathon in April. Big thanks to Runners Connect for helping me to keep up a long period of consistent, high-level training (Coach Danny in particular!).

Carol Rhoades ran the St. George Half Marathon in St. George, Utah finishing this race in the time of 2:04:01.

CarolRHighlights: Perfect weather and the Waffle Truck at the end (not kidding). I was just going to run this as a well supported long run, but ended up speeding it up since I hadn’t put in many miles this week. It was beautiful outside..no wind, blue sky, cool temps. I felt pretty good most of the run, last 2 miles were hard (but aren’t they always)? Overall, a great experience, even with the slow time.

Christopher Jones ran the Bermuda Half marathon race weekend in Bermuda finishing this distance in the time of 1:39:37.

It was part of the Race Weekend which is 3 races in 3 days. 1mile, 10k, and half or full marathon.  Quite a challenge. Especially to run competitively. I picked up age group 3rd place in the 10k and in the Half marathon. Ist place in the mile. So a pretty good weekend.
