Win a Free Copy of The Hansons Marathon Method and Help Us Debunk Marathon Training Myths

hansons marathon methodAs some of our long-time readers may know, I had the privilege of running for the Hansons-Brooks Olympic Development project (check out the 1500 record holder) for part of my professional career. Not only was it an exiting opportunity as an athlete, but being around such great coaches and athletes was a transformative period in my coaching career.

Luckily, I am still able to tap into some of those resources and bring you, our readers, some truly unique content.

One of my former roommates during my stint at the Hansons Project was Luke Humphrey. Luke is a 2:14 marathoner and an exercise scientist. Recently, he published a book titled the Hansons Marathon Method: A Renegade Path to Your Fastest Marathon in which he details the training philosophies the Hansons have used to turn their runners into race winners, national champions, and Olympians.

Luke was kind enough to grant me some awesome one-on-one time to interview him about the training methods in the book and really dig deep into some of the questions about the Hansons Marathon Method. The interview was fantastic and packed with marathon advice I don’t think you can find anywhere else.

We’ll be publishing the interview with Luke on Monday morning, so bookmark us or subscribe to our iTunes podcast and get the interview sent to you as soon as it’s posted.

  1. Aw, man, I already bought the book! 🙂 (Amazon preorder even) But I’m thrilled to hear that you’ll be delving into the details, and that (it sounds like) you somewhat support their approach or at least think it merits consideration.

For the last month or so, I’ve been following your kind advice & plans in my half marathon training – 4wks to race day now! As I inch back toward marathoning, I am looking for new approaches (since my approach last time around got me injured), and I was looking at yours and going to look into Hanson’s . I was concerned that your approach and theirs might not be similar enough to work together, but I’m less concerned about that now.

    Looking forward to the interview!

  2. I would say our approach is pretty similar when it comes to the big picture of marathon training. Meaning, it’s not all about one workout or a specific distance of long run.

In my experience, those that have the most success are those that can be consistent and string together lots of strong workouts, week after week. The exact workouts may be different, but the overall philosophy is the same.

    Enjoy the interview Monday!
