Teams RunnerConnect speeds into the summer months running stronger races in all distances as well as bringing in 3PRs.

Karen Scobie ran the a 10K in Amersfoort NL finishing this race in the time of 58:29 which is a PR of 5 minutes and 30 seconds.

KarenScobieWhat a day today was! 18c and sunshine! After a 2 hr drive and some detours, we reached our destination – a lovely little town in the Netherlands. Big friendly crowd, lots of folks lining the streets during the race, lots of kids lined up for hand slapping! I had a goal (under 1 hr) and a strategy today – to try for a negative split and a fast finish. But I was caught in the rush at the beginning, and went out too fast. Finally settled in around 2.5k, and watched the people around me. Picked a few I wanted to overtake, but was holding back until 8k, then slowly started to pick up (and overtake my choices!). At 9k I felt like I wasn’t going to have enough to bring it in fast, so waited another 500m to speed up again. I heard my husband in the crowd at the same time I saw the finish and sprinted to the end. This was my 2nd 10k race in my whole 2 year running career. The first was in Jan 14, in Edmonton AB at -20c. I was in the best shape of my life then, and about 12lbs lighter than now. But that wasn’t a good race for me – I didn’t have a race strategy and was using an overly ambitious RK HM training plan for a Hypothermic Half a month later. Today was a great day, and I’m looking forward to continued improvement – this was the first time I’ve run longer than 8k for about a year! I’m so happy for RC!!

Rick Sansoucy ran the Iron Horse Half Marathon in Simsbury, CT finishing in this race in the time of 1:55:39.

I ran a solid half-marathon, following the plan exactly and hitting the predicted time. Of my 17 half marathons this ranks #3. Considering that #1 was in 2006 when I was a youngster of 51 and #2 was in 2004 when I was a mere 49, I am very pleased with today’s results. Thanks to coach Jamie and the other RC coaches for all the words of encouragement.

Ryan Pesanka competed in the Warrior Dash mud run 5K in Huntersville, NC earning a spot in the Warrior Dash World Championships.

RyanPWarrior Dash is an untimed Mud Run, but the Top 25 men and women qualify for the Warrior Dash World Championships held October 10th in Tennessee. When crossing the finish line they handed me the card for 15th place. After looking at the results this morning, their website has me as finishing 14th. This qualified me for the World Championship!! I figured my time was in the 24-26 minute range.

LeeAnn Meyer ran the San Jose Giant Race 5 miler finishing in the time of 43:42 which is a 2 seconds PR for this race distance.

LeeAnnMI was pleasantly surprised to get a PR 3 weeks out from my marathon and right after a week in Vegas. My legs didn’t feel great, but I’ll take it!I ended up getting 6th out of 77 in my age group which is not bad. This is an important race for me because my husband helps organize it, so I’m glad I was able to be proud of my results!

Rooney Kelly ran the Phlox Trail Run 10.55K in Brantford, Ontario finishing in the time of 1:05:00 which was a PR by 1 minute and 5 seconds.

RooneyKellyThis morning’s run was throughout a trail filled with beautiful phlox along the Grand River and it was very pretty. I wiped out once over some roots because I wasn’t paying attention but it was worth every second just to be on the trail. There were a lot of hills the last 4km which gave my hamstring a beating but delicious chocolate chip cookies at the finish line made things much better. I came second in my age group which is only because I am a member of RunnersConnect. Thank you, Jamie.

Brian Schmidt ran the Monumental Mile in Indianapolis, IN coming across the finish line in the time of 4:54.8.

My oldest son and I ran together in the open race (both skipping out of our actual age group categories). This was really the first head to head race were we both put it all out there. He successfully beat me (and did so solidly) running a PR of 4:45.9. The race was point to point in a straight line with basically no elevation change. I would definitely recommend doing a race like this to everyone. It’s a great way to change up your typical racing schedule.

Diana Convey ran the Estrella Cactus 5K in Estrella Mountains finishing this race in the time of 27:49.

DianeCThis was the last race in the Spring Cactus Flower Trail Series. Each race got a little shorter, however the course got more challenging. The desert smelled and felt great having just had a little rain the day before. I finished 1st in my 10-yr age division for the 3rd time in a row and placed 2nd overall in the series–a move up from 3rd overall the last time I ran the series. Not as much competition as I get older. However, it’s always sweet to see you can place in the younger divisions as well in a local race. I look forward to getting faster for the Fall series this year. Happy Racing Everyone!

Sascha Fennel ran the Boucle de Cagnes 10K in Cagnes sur Mer, France finishing in the time of 1:48:41.

SaschaFIn the last six months I did 5 races with a PR. This was the first without one. At the same time I did not intend a PR for two reasons. 1. I am in the middle of my marathon training, 2. I had a rough working week with not being able to run at all for 5 days in a row. As a result I felt heavy. Already in warming up I noticed I had not much power. I tried nonetheless to see if my legs would come back to me during the race. Well, they did a bit in the second half but not remotely close to my last races. I am happy with the result of my now 3rd best 10k with a personal course record at my second time here at 48:41.

Barb Ross ran the Asheville Half Marathon and 10K Race finishing the 10K in the time of 1:25:53.

This was my first 10K, and boy was it a challenge! When I first signed up for it in December it didnt dawn on me that the course might include major “hills”. I decided not to drive the course before the race, and that was a good decision because if I had it may have psyched me out.  As far as my race goes, I am absolutely thrilled with the results. I wanted to finish… I did…. I wanted to finish in atleast 1:30:00 and I did…. and considering the course that was a major achievement. I paced myself really well on the first 3 miles, running 11:53/12:02/12:38. It helped that a couple of the runners were running about the same pace, so I hung with them for a bit. The fourth mile I walked mostly – I had trained for hills….oh My!!!! this was literally UP A MOUNTAIN. Still I managed to walk it in 15:59. My 5th and 6th miles I had to pull from within to get through…. with the help of my family who were there at the 5 Mile marker and finish line to cheer me on (they were yelling “Suck it Up Buttercup”… such a hoot! )  At first I thought it may have been a mistake to pick such a challenging course for my first 10K, but now I am glad that I did. I know that I can handle most any course now. I really enjoyed talking with the other runners on the course and the whole atmosphere was great! There were live bands at each mile marker and the volunteers were great! I couldnt have asked for a better experience, even though absolutely exhausted at the end. I cant wait for my next race!!

Serge Bornick ran the Semi-Marathon de Fribourg in Courtepin / Switzerland finishing in the time of 53:52.

SergeVery hot. Sunny, no shade. Nothing special except I could run most of it with my son and we finished almost together.

Jennifer Putnam ran the Scorcher Half Marathon in Stillwater, OK in coming across the finish line in the time of 2:13:01.

Jennifer PMy 3rd Half marathon in 78 days…..I qualified for the Half Fanatics today 🙂

Shannon Lebeuf ran the NODM half marathon in Port Angeles, WA finishing in the time of 1:42:22 which earned her first place in her age group.

ShannonLAlthough not a PR for me, it felt like a PR effort! I wasn’t sure what to expect from this race. I felt a little unprepared as I’ve kind of been in “recovery” training and haven’t done a lot since Boston Marathon and the Elk lake Ultra. It was such a beautiful course I really felt like I should not have been working so hard and taken more time to enjoy it! The course started out fairly hilly and hot, but leveled out through beautiful old growth forest and slightly down hill grade to seaside finish. The race was just what I needed to climb out of that post goal funk that I’ve been in. Oh yeah, and for an added bonus, I won my age group.

Kim Rankin ran the Summer Sunrise Watermelon Series Race #1 finishing in the time of Lakeland, Florida coming across the finish line in the time of 37:19.

KimRWhile not a PR for a 5K, for this particular summer race series this is a personal best for me by over 2 minutes 34 seconds. This race was memorable because I was able to speed up and I didn’t feel exhausted or miserable, in the central Florida heat/humidity. It was also very motivating that the girls in their twenties, that I went with ( that are usually way out of my site most of /if not the whole race), were in my site most of the time. One finished way ahead of us, one finished after me by a few minutes(!). The other two finished less than a minute ahead of me. The ice cold post race watermelon was delicious and I’m not even a watermelon loving person. Looking forward to race number 2 in a couple weeks.

Fred Beers ran the Run to Break The Silence 20K  in Bernalillo, NM completing this distance in the time of 1:35:54.

This was a PR although it was my first 20k race so I’m not sure if that counts. I had a great time at the race although it was small with only 26 people running the race. I was happy with my time especially since it was a hilly course.

Thanasis Kypraios ran the 1st Race “Together We Can” 4.5K in Athens, Marathon coming across the finish line with a time of 18:27.

thanasisIt was a very nice 5K race in a beautiful location. At the lake of Marathonas, approximately 30kms away from Athens. The race was part of a charity campaign organized by a national TV & radio station, to help collect food and other useful staff (clothes, medicine etc) for the poor. The official name of the campaign is “Together we can”.
The race was not good for me, I hadn’t slept well and I had a strong headache. But it’s ok, the purpose of the race was to have fun and collect food, so, mission accomplished.

Patrick Douglass ran the Lexington 5K in Johnstown, NY finishing this race in the time of 21:39 which is a 40 seconds PR.

It was a PR…, also being able to run it with my son and friends.
