Team RunnersConnects closes August down with several monster PRs and age group awards.

Maryjane Llamas ran the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA finishing the race in the time of 2:25 which was a PR of over 20 minutes.

MJLRock-n-Roll HM in Va Beach is always Labor Day weekend (hot and humid). I ran this race in 2012 and finish at 2:45. I promised myself many times on the race course I will never return to this race. But this year, I am training for Marine Corps in Oct and needed a tune-up race. So I signed up for RnR for training mileage (and the huge bling!) As always, when the race started, temps at high 70’s, humidity already at 96%. My plan was to race conservatively since it was mainly for mileage. I had some difficult miles on the course (mile 7, 9, 11) but I used a variety of training techniques I have learned from RC to get me through. I had a strong finish which always makes me feel I gave it my all! Despite the heat and humidity, my RC training has helped me improve my time by 20 minutes. As a double bonus, the 2:25 time today is 3 minutes faster than my last HM PR I ran in Mar 2012 when the weather is still in the high 50’s/low 60’s. T hank you Runners Connect!!

Jonna English ran the Rock-n-Roll Half Marathon in Virginia Beach, VA as her first half marathon and completing this distance in the time of 3:23.

JonnaEThis was THE race that I have been training for!! I trained 4 months, I trained right and I was READY for this race thanks to my Runners Connect community, Coach Jamie Dodge and my personal trainer, Terry Gogets from Core Results in Raleigh!!  It was HOT outside, and tough to keep moving at times….I tried to keep hydrated at the water stations……I hit my wall at 10.5, but had a Gatorade chew and I was back in the game and across that finish line before I knew it!!!!  What an AMAZING, EXHILARATING, EXHAUSTING, ELATING, AWESOME experience!!! Can’t wait till my next one!!

Scott Miller ran the American Discovery Trail Half in Colorado Springs, CO finishing this distance in the time of 2:27:35 which was a PR of 21 minutes.

I wanted to improve my corral placement for the Disney World full in January. This is my first race since using RC for training, and it worked out great (PR). I’m very happy with the speed improvement.

Eric Thomas raced the Seattle Marathon 10K in Seattle, WA coming across the finish line with a time of 42:57 which was PR.

EricTThis race went well for me. I tried to stick to negative splits, starting at a 7:10pace for the first mile and gradually getting faster from there. My overall pace was 6:55/mile, which I was happy with. I came in 11th out of 116 runners in my age division (M 30-39). Next time, I think I will drink a little less water right before the race because I felt a little queasy. Also, I ran three miles from my house to the start before the race, which I think was a little much.

Siobhan Donegan ran the Cape Cod Canal 10K in Bourne Scenic Park, Bourne, MA finishing this distance in the time of 44:39 which was a PR by 1 minute 39 seconds.

SiobhanI was the 2nd woman and was happy with my time of 44:39, also a PR. The course was flat, it was a beautiful day and the wind was not a factor so conditions were very good. I’d also add that I ran 1 minute and 39 seconds FASTER than last year, and had started RC in January, 2014…so I would say there is a connection there too!

Marlena Dlutek ran the Gryf Half Marathon 20.5K in Poland in the 1:26:50 which gave her a PR of over 9 minutes.

This race was supposed to be a half marathon but something went wrong with the route and it was shorter by 600m. I was super surprised to see my time of 1:26:50 but my Garmin was showing shorter distance and later on it was confirmed that the half marathon was not a half marathon at all and my time would be something like 1:29:30 for 21.1k which is still a huge improvement for me from 1:38:30 or something like that that was my best from this year in March. Second in my age group, and sixth woman overall, after all the pro runners training with regular coaches and belonging to the clubs-I only train on my own with runners connect schedule. Weather was kind of heavy humid day, race started at 10 am, I am on vacation here too, so different food etc. my rest and nutrition were not perfect like at home and I put a lot of effort into this race, started a little too fast ( had 5 k in 20 min flat) and paid for it later but never went slower then 4:30 per km.

Tia Supari ran the Silver Run which is a 11.3 Km race in Jakarta and finishing this distance in the of 1:07 which was a PR and a 5th place overall female.

Supposed to be 10k race, but actually 11.3km, PR for 10k of 59:05 got me 5th place for women age group 40+ (first to 4th winner were “professional”athlete)

Nicola Lawrence ran the Butterfly Creek Nighttime Madness which is 10.61 km trail race in Wellington, New Zealand finishing this event in the time of 1:28:24.

NicolaLThis was a fun run in my lead up to doing a HM in October. It is a team (have to run it in pairs) night time trail in the bush. Huge hills, technical tracks, good times.

Dean Morley raced the Bushy Park 10K in Bushy Park, London coming across the finish line with a the time of 38:32.

dean-morleyNot a PB, but only 9 secs off (Which I ran last year) and this was on gravel/ track rather than my PB on tarmac – so very pleased with result and progress over last couple of 10ks. I also won my age graded (V45) which was a bonus – with the prize being a bottle of wine, maybe a bit odd for a running prize, but none the less, we enjoyed drinking it over the next couple of nights 🙂

Hannah Spanner ran a hot and hilly half marathon in Ireland finishing this race with the time of 1:34:24 which placed her second female overall.

HannahAll comes down to how it goes on the day and this wasn’t perfect but absolutely DELIGHTED to still get second place despite the race not going to plan. The main event in just 4 weeks so the end goal is more important and still well within my target times that Coach Danny had given me so can’t complain too much.
