Team RunnersConnects blazing through the summer with 8PRs

Bobby Smith ran the Woodstock 5K in Anniston, AL finishing this distance in the time of 20:13 which was a 31 seconds PR.

bobbyThe race did not go as planned and I missed my finish time goal but I did set a :31 personal course record. The race is hilly course with a fast first mile followed by a challenging second and third mile with a giant hill just before the finish line. Next year I will put in some race specific training to achieve my goal finish time.

Sergio Calvo ran the HP Wellness Race 10K in Heredia, Costa Rica coming across the finish line in the time of 50 minutes which was a 1 minute PR.

SergioI am quite happy with a -1 min PR from my previous 10 KM. It is cool to see the times going down consistently. Even if it is only by a minute. I managed to start relaxed and begin cutting after KM 4. A very long hill at 2.5 KM made it difficult. However I managed to keep it easy but solid, while several folks were debunking. My training was there backing me up.  Then the route down and engaging on some folks on the final kilometers did the work. Even though I closed strong, I got the feeling that I could have done an even better middle race. Which thinking about it is exciting!

Mike Sheridan raced the UK Southern Athletics League track 5,000 in Winchester  in the time of 19:02 which was a PR by 14 seconds.

My first track meet in 3 years making up the numbers for the club on a holiday w/e. A month into marathon training so didn’t expect this result and the wind was at 15mph down the finish straight, which on a track 5,000, you run 13 time.

Jonna English ran the Run for the Red 10k in Fayetteville, NC finishing in the time of 1:19:50 which was the first time she ever ran this distance.

JonnaEThis was my first 10k! And I had leg issues this week and had to rest 3 days, BUT I had NO problems today and it was actually not as hard I thought it would be, especially considering the 486ft elevation hills!!  I’m VERY pleased with my results! Just one more step to my BIG Rock n Roll Half Marathon on the 31st! 4 weeks to go!! Yikes!!

Rich Rein ran the Urban Wildland 5K in Richfield, MN finishing this distance in the time of 20:36 which was a PR of 38 seconds.  On the same day, he also ran the Tiki Run 10K in St Paul, MN finishing in the time of 49:03 which was the first time racing this distance.

RichReinThis was a big day for me – to get ready for Ragnar in a couple of weeks, I had signed up for a 5K in the morning and a 10K in the evening…and managed to PR at both (although the evening PR is a bit of a misnomer, as it was my first official race at this distance – I have been down in the 46:xx range in training). A 20:36 in the morning race, and a 49:03 in the evening. The morning race was a beautiful setting, and perfect weather – and my time reflected that. The evening race had a rain storm pass through before the start, but unfortunately that just left a humid evening behind to race. I started off with a plan of running with a friend, but the after effects of his morning race started to get the better of him. We ended up parting ways around mile 4.5, and I finished strong. All in all, a good day!

Cynthia Morris ran the Catherine Creek Classic 1/2 marathon in Union, OR as a tune up race and finishing this event with the time of 1:44:10.

CynthiaThe weather was hot, muggy, and smokey due to a lot of local wild fires. It is a fun race as it has a 3 mile downhill start and then winds along a creek. I managed to not start too fast and then started picking off people who had started too fast. I was running nice even splits until mile ten then the road opened up with no shade and had a head wind (which was fine since it was so hot). I slowed a little in these last 3 miles but all in all am very happy with my time since I had no taper and wasn’t expecting to run that fast. I would have broke 1:44 but my 5 yr old granddaughter likes to finish with me so we crossed the line together. Runners connect helped keep me focused as I wanted to be able to post a good time. I c ould have never done this without their help!

Jennifer Sheely raced the Sneaks come out at night 15k in Baltimore, MD in the time of 1:07:36 which was a PR.

Felt great thought out the entire race-went out smart and held on my pace.

Julia Labovsky ran the Riley’s Rumble Half Marathon in Germantown, MD in the time of 1:56:10 which was a course PR by 8 minutes.

JulialaRiley’s Rumble is a very hilly, challenging course – the website states, “There are no awards, t-shirts, or finisher medals. You won’t need a finisher medal to remember you have done Riley’s.” So while it was not a PR-making race, I went 8 minutes faster than when I ran this race last year, which is encouraging. For me, it’s a course PR. 🙂

Conor Morrissey ran the Park Run 5K in Water Works, North Belfast coming across the finish line with a time of 20:15 which was a PR by 10 seconds.

I was disappointed as I really expected to go below 20:00 especially since my training is going so well, but then again I’m training for a marathon in 12 weeks not a 5K. This was really just to test my fitness and fine tune my paces. I’ll get it next time!

Brenda Steedman ran the Sydney Trail Series 10K in St Ives Showground finishing this event in the time of 1:23:16 which was a 1 minute PR.

BrendaThis is a difficult trail race, the trail is mainly single file and technical and the loss/gain in elevation is 357m, so it’s very, very steep! Just getting to the end in one piece is an achievement, and a PR of a minute is really satisfying.

James Barrand ran the Grizzly Half trail race finishing this event in the time of 2:37:57.

This was just a fun local race with big elevation gain (1000 meters) and nice single-track trails. A great way to spend a Sunday.

Jim Welland ran the Red Hot Blues 5K in Lebanon, OH finishing in the time of 23:17.

JimEvening race (started at 7pm). Was part of that town’s Blues festival.
