Team RunnersConnect toughs out tough heat to run strong race in distances from the 5K to half marathon with 3PRS and several age awards.

Stacy Thomas ran the Madison Mini Marathon in Madison, WI finishing this race distance in the time of 1:47:14 which is a PR of 1 minute and 14 seconds.

StacyTIt was my 5th half marathon and it continued the trend of each one being a PR. And while it wasn’t as fast as I wanted to run it, the hilly course was tough. Overall it was a great race!

Jonathan Bogaard ran the Windrunner 10K in Wheaton, IL coming across the finish line in the time of 56:13 which is a PR of 1 minute and 31 seconds.

Only my 2nd 10k so I had a good shot at a PR. 🙂 Prepared pretty well but I have been fighting through a summer cold for about 2 weeks. Changed my race plan to kilometers from miles to get more frequent timing updates. Probably drank a little too much Poweraid pre-race. Race wasn’t chip timed so that made me anxious and I moved nearer to the front and, of course, went out too fast. Struggled in the middle miles but somehow managed to finish with a solid PR. It was an interesting course – first and last 200 meters on long grass of a horse racing oval, the rest on nice packed gently rolling trails. It was tough for the last 200 meters to really pick up my feet through the long grass. I’m very thankful for the RC training and the support of RC members.

Sarah Ryan ran the Cheesehead Half Marathon in Hilbert, WI finishing this race in the time of 1:51:19.

This was my big tuneup race before Chicago in October so I wanted it to go well. I debated between this race and a half in Madison, WI but ultimately decided on this one because it was more convenient. I had heard mixed reviews of this race. The biggest complaints were that due to the time of year it was usually very hot and humid and there is very little shade and since the race is in a rural area there is almost no crowd support. Luckily the day of the race was relatively cool and not too humid. Coach Jamie suggested I target a time of 1:49-1:53 so I decided to try to run the first three miles at 8:40, miles four-ten at 8:20 and finish as fast as I could. I was able to follow this plan pretty well and finished with a time of 1:51:19. My PR for this distance is 1:44 so it wasn’t close to a PR but I wasn’t expecting one and felt good about my performance. It was a fun race and I was happy with how it turned out.

Cody Rickert ran his first half marathon at the Roswell Alien Half Marathon in Roswell, GA coming across the finish line in the time of 1:49:45.

CodyRThis was my first half marathon. I had hoped for a faster time but with a 7pm race time with 90 degree start temperature, I am quite pleased. I even had to finish the last 3 miles of the race in the complete dark, with very minimal ambient light. My training paid off immensely to combat the tougher conditions and this race gave me good experience to base my next races off of. I know under better conditions my times will continually drop. I am really excited to now look ahead towards my goal of the Savannah Marathon and eager start into the core of the training in September with longer runs and more mileage.

John Wyche ran the Roswell Area 13.1 Alien Escape half marathon in Roswell, GA finishing this race in the time of 2:11:38.

JohnWThis race was the last part of a 16-mile pacing exercise. The idea was to run as many consecutive 9:45 miles as possible (my PR pace is about8:50) as a prelude to my goal marathon in 5 weeks.  However, the 90 degree temperature and very high humidity made me decide to forget about the exact pace and instead run the miles at as steady a pace as I could maintain. Overall pace turned out to be 10:20, which was fine. I was especially happy with my consistent pace over the first half of the race, my ability to manage the notorious hills without having to walk, and my strong finish (the last 1.1 miles were run at a pace 90+ seconds faster than any other mile).
Not a PR by a long shot (16 minutes slower), but overall a satisfying experience that leaves me looking forward to the rest of my Berlin prep.

Richard Thomas ran the First Responders 5K run/walk in Palatine, Illinois finishing this race event in the time of 28:24.

RichardThomasRan this to celebrate my 69th birthday. It was a small race, but the location was really nice, in a northwest suburban forest preserve. The weather wasn’t too bad, mid 70’s. This was a first time event, but well organized, chip timed, clearly marked course, tech shirts, and some good food and snacks for after the race. And, I placed 1st in my age group and 21st overall out of 107 runners. Not too bad for an old geezer.

Jaron Brown ran the Hotlanta Half Marathon in Atlanta, GA finishing this race in the time of 1:52:11.

JaronBThis was the first of two tune-up races for my goal race, the NYC Marathon. This was also the first race since returning from a 5-week layoff due to groin and hip issues. The groin issue has subsided, but the hip issue persists. This race was going to be a test of my current fitness given my health issues. I performed reasonably well, given the circumstances, which included, not only my fitnesss/health issues, but torrential downpours with shoe-deep rivers running through the streets during the second half of the race, lightning during the second half of the race, and a poor fueling/hyrdrating plan for the entire race. I planned to run 45 seconds per mile slower than my best, but ended up running a bit over 1 minute per mile slower. I pushed too hard at the end of the race and ended up having to take an IV and oxygen at the finish line in order to rehydrate…not my finest moment. However, I’ve learned from this experience and am moving on to the next one.

Laura Thomas competed in South Riding Triathlon in South Riding, VA completing the 5K run portion in the time of 22:42 and 3rd Overall.

I was able to push it harder than ever on the bike – PR on the bike and the swim. Had I gotten a PR on the run or just 8 seconds faster, I would have came in 2nd overall. But since this was a triathlon, I feel great about it and felt my run was still strong to be 48 and coming in 3rd overall. And to be able to push it to a 19.6 mph on the bike where last year I was at 18.1 – so my run of course was tougher. Super super day – it was still my 2nd best run time. And that is with wet triathlon shoes!  Coming in 3rd overall made this race very very special!

Carol Grisso ran the Alki Beach 5K in Ali Beach, WA coming across the finish line in the time of 25:58 pacing 2nd in her age group.

CarolGrissoThis race invited the 6 best (70-74) age-group females in the South Sound area to compete in the “Battle of the Boomers” event and I was able to snatch 2nd in the age-group behind the FAMOUS world-class Judy Fisher!

Fred Beers ran his first 15K at the All Faiths Hero’s Run 15K in Albuquerque, NM finishing this race distance in the time of 1:07:57 which placed him 2nd in his Age group.

This was my first 15k race and I got second place in my age division which I was happy about. The course was on a dirt road which was a bit surprising as I was expecting a road race. It was also very windy which made the run challenging at times. Overall I had a great time.

Kim Rankin ran the Summer sunrise watermelon 5K series race#4 in Lakeland, Florida finishing in the time of 37:43.

KimRThis was the last race of the summer series. Although my times aren’t as fast as I wish they’d be, they were faster by minutes in everyone of the races and that makes me happy. The heat and humidity were really high. But I truly am doing so much better running in this stuff and I still felt fine after. Hot and sweaty but not bad otherwise . I ran with girls in their mid 20’s to early 30’s. I beat one everytime and I caught up to another twice. It was a fun series with delicious ice cold watermelon after.

Ed Chuchaisri ran the 2015 Muang Thai Half Marathon in Bangkok, Thailand finishing this distance in the time of 1:59:17.

EdCIt was my first 21km race since Dec 2014. This workout meant to be a tune-up race for my first marathon in Osaka, JP late Oct. My aim today was to finish the race within 2 hours, and I just did exactly that. It felt great given that about 3 months ago I was struggling with even 5km runs. I had a knee injury that kept me out for about 3 months and I pretty much lost my fitness and eagerness to run. I am glad I am starting to get that back, despite my time today was still 10 mins from my 21km PR.

Sarah Keith ran the Bulldog 25K Trail race in Malibu, CA finishing this race distance in the time of 2:36:15.

This was actually my first official 25k ultra trail run …wasn’t running for a PR just for fun……very challenging first 6 miles straight uphill ……scenery was so pretty and the course was awesome….definitely run it again next year…..maybe the 50k.

George Willard ran the RNR Cleveland half marathon in Cleveland, OH coming across the finish line in the time of 1:57:45 which is a 14 second PR.

This was a tune up race so no tapering leading up to the race. My old PR was set 3 years ago so a new PR was very welcome.
