Team RunnersConnect keeping it hot with 6 PRs and several Age Group awards

Eran Geyari ran the Tel Aviv Half Marathon in Tel Aviv, Israel finishing with a time of 1 hour and 54 minutes which was a PR of 4 minutes.

Eran30C with 89% hunidity. Very tough conditions. I was focusing on keeping my good form unlike my previous races and I managed to do that. I am happy that I was smart enough to go a little bit more easy at the end since it was very hot . The entire race I kept in mind the articles and staff I learned here at RC.

Madeleine Said ran the DC Metro HBCU Alumni Alliance 5K in Washington, DC coming across the finish line with a time of 30:30 which was a PR and first in age group award. She ran was running to test her fitness in preparation for her Fall marathon.

MsI followed Coach Jamie’s advice to hold steady for the first 1.5 miles and then start ramping up and then gun it towards the end. It was hard to hold back at first but luckily I did because I didn’t have much left by the end. And to my surprise I came in first in my age group! It was a great way to wrap up the race experience and it’s gotten me much more interested in what women my age are accomplishing in races.

Brian St.George raced the Midnight Sun Midnight Run 5K in Duluth MN with a finishing time of 17:09 which was a PR of 22 seconds and 5th place overall and Second in Age Group award.

Brian St. GeorgeNot quite my 5k goal time (sub 17), but I’m very pleased with a new 5k PR! I placed 5th overall and 2nd in my age grp. The weather was cool (46) and foggy on the shore of Lk Superior, but the wind was very light. There were some hills in the 2nd mile that prevented me from sticking to my 5:30 pace, but I managed to pick it up after those hills and finish with a negative split. I had the same 3rd mile split in this race as I had for my 1st mile split during last Friday’s 5k.

Mike Sheridan ran the Endure 24 in Aldermaston, UK which was a 35 miler finishing this distance with the time of 5:00:34. This event had thunderstorms and torrential rans 2 hours before the start so it left the course very muddy and treacherous especially with 2,000 runners on the course.

As the name implies this is an endurance event run non-stop over 24hrs. I was part of a team of 5 (males) and we took turns in running laps over an undulating hilly (103 meter gain per lap), muddy course of 5 miles each lap. In total, we each ran 7 laps, so team total of 175m (5 x 35m). My total time was 5:00:34 and we finished 8th/34 teams. Would I do it again or take up “ultra running”? No thank you but I did enjoy the team dynamic!.

Siobhan Donegan did the Vermont Sun Sprint Triathlon in Lake Dunmore, Branbury State Park, Salisbury, Vermont and ran the 5K portion of this race in 22:18 which is a PR of 1 minute and 27 seconds.

SiobhanMy last 5k was New Year’s Day, 2013 and I ran 23:45. I think maybe 20 years ago I ran 5k’s in the low 21-22’s but that was eons ago and doesn’t count! Yesterday’s 22:18 (as part of the triathlon) makes me wonder if I should just sign up for a regular 5k race and try to run (a little) faster. I hope to get a 5k on my calendar sometime soon and test this out. In the meantime, I was excited to finish my first sprint triathlon. Hopefully my next one will find me shaving some critical minutes off the swim and the bike! I was definitely happy with my run.

Buddy Gray ran in the Ultimate Runner in Winston-Salem, NC which was several races of varying distances totally 4.91 miles.

BuddyIt was my first time running this type of race. I went into it not knowing what to really to expect. It was tough but I was rather happy with my performance. It was also my first time I’ve run a mile for an official time since high school. I guess 5:20.0 wasn’t too bad a time since my best In high school was 4:38.0 for the mile. The other events in the race I was happy with whatever time I could run. It was a fun race and I would probably do it again. Thanks RC for your training as it has only made me a better runner!

Dan Angeles raced the Veterans’ Home Run 5k in Colorado Springs, CO coming across the finish line with a time of 19:06.

DanAnThe weather was perfect and got to raise money for a great cause! Plus, my team won the co-ed division! My expectations weren’t too high for this race bc I am only 2 weeks into my first RC training cycle, that, and I just ran an easy 10 miler 2 days before. I did have a time goal to break 19 minutes, and fell 7 seconds short with a time of 19:06. I am actually still happy with the time bc that is a 6 second improvement, on a much hillier/tougher course than two weeks ago, and on no taper whatsoever. Most of all, I had fun!

Jared Storts raced the 1 Mile Track Race in Portland, Oregon finishing this distance with a time of 4:55.96 which a PR of 14 seconds.

JaredSI am turning 40 next year and I really wanted to see if I could break 5:00 for the mile. A time trial 4 weeks ago put my time at 5:10. I believed I was capable of running that fast, but wasn’t sure if it would happen by race day. In addition to hitting the time goal and setting a PR, I was very pleased with the pacing. The 1/4 mile splits were: 1:121:161:171:11.

Marlon Scott did the Massy Rainbow Cup Sprint Triathlon in Turtle Beach, Tobago completing this event in time of 1 hour and 15 minutes place 8th overall and 3rd in his age group.

I’m new to this sport. This was my first official triathlon. Last year, at the same event I did the Try-a-Tri event and placed 1st overall. Back than I couldn’t swim properly. From then until now, I started swimming better so I decided to enter the sprint distance. Swimming is my weakest leg, I came 65th out of the water from a starting line up of 175 people. I closed drastically on the ride and Thanks to Coach Sarah, my has improved tremendously which placed me 8th overall and 3rd in my age group.

Sergio Calvo ran the Run for our Health in San José, Costa Rica finishing this race with a time of 51 minutes which was a PR by 3 minutes and 8 seconds.

SergioI am thrilled about this PR because I actually planned my run. Something I had never done before. I stopped using my phone while running, and I don’t have other distance tracking device. So I mapped the route in run-keeper to memorize the KM spots. Trying 50:00 since my last PR at 54:08 seemed OK. I used Jeff’s pace calculator to understand that I needed to race 5:10 – 5:00 and then faster as possible. I also took advantage of his tips for a 10K. Execution wasn’t perfect, but it was close. I missed the targets on KMs 1 (too fast), 2, 7, and 9. While achieving them on KMs 3,4,5,6,8 and 10.
And I really enjoyed every piece of it and of the hard work it took from me.

Vanessa Jewell ran the Siean/Francis House 5K in Omaha, NE with a finishing time of 25:24.

VNot a PR, but I did place first in my age group and 4th overall for women. It was a down and back course and at about mile 2 I noticed that I was in 5th for women. I wasn’t sure if I could pass the gal in front of me or not b/c she seemed far away. But I decided to slowly pick it up and after passing the two gentlemen in front of me I decided to go for it and pass the gal also. Pleased with myself and felt good and in control the whole time. I really focused on running the first mile easy and picking it up at each mile. Not bad considering I’ve mainly trained for my half marathons.

Erin Krubeck ran the Heart and Sole Half Marathon in CO coming across the finish line with a time of 2 hours and 3 minutes.

ErinKThought I had a chance at going under 2 hours but this was probably not the course to do that. My initial PR was in the fall on a cool day/flat course so a little different conditions today. Was wicked hot–which in particular is bad for me–Also was not a flat/PR course– lots of long climbs some steep–some just gradual and grueling. I’m glad I have this data point, my splits were really pretty good until about mile 10 and 11. Just gotta keep working!
