Team RunnersConnect closes out March with a Roar with several PRs and one big 50 mile race.

Dean Roberts ran the Inaugural Love Run in Philadelphia finishing in 1:50:16 which was a PR by 1 minute 51 seconds. The conditions were cold and they have heavy rain through the race. Dean ran a very smart race starting at his marathon pace and progressing getting faster.

DeanSo when it was all said and done, I ran a 1:50:16 for a 1:51 PB. More importantly, I’m pretty confident based on this result I’m on the right track for hitting my marathon goal.

Clare Gan ran the Capital Ten Miler For the Arts in brutal conditions with hard, steady ran mixing with freezing rain add in roaring winds. In these conditions, Clare was too keep her cool and still able to run a PR finishing in 1:30:23 which gave her a 3rd place in Age group award.

Clare2This tune-up race for New Jersey Half Marathon one month away on April 27th was the motivation I need to keep pushing to accomplish a sub 2 hour time PR. Thank you for training plans and encouragement to make it happen! I’m a new “older” runner that hopes to keep seeing growth every step of the journey. While I wish I would have began running MUCH earlier in my life I feel so blessed to have it my passion and joy today.

Bobby Smith ran the Lake Martin 50 Miler race in 9:45:40 which gave him a 8th place overall award. He was able to over calf cramping that start in 30th mile and run through very muddy conditions.

bobbyThis was my first 50 mile ultra race so in that it was a PR. It was a tough race with a LOT of mud which resulted in me slowing down on the second loop. I finished 8th overall and am very happy with that

Mihai Serban raced the Novi Sad Half  finishing in 1:27:32 which was a PR by over 3 minutes.

MihaiRaced in Novi Sad Half with a group of 6 friends of all levels. Had a short vacation and visited the city. Trained for 3 months and in the last month I got injured because I overtrained and was very dissapointed by it. Managed to run a PB but I could have done better under normal circumstances.

Edward Sum ran the Around the Bay 30K in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada finishing in  2:24:51. This was 19 minute improvement over his previous time on the same course.

I treated this as a tune-up race for my upcoming marathon in May. The second half of the race was much tougher and had more hills, but I dug deep and managed a 2.5 min negative split. I kept my training very consistent during this rough winter, so I wanted to see how far I have progressed. Hard work pays off and definitely a character building run.

Kathy Balme ran a 30K finishing in 2:46:09 which was a 11 minute PR.

KathyI felt better this year than I did last year, and improved my time by 11 minutes. My sister, who did not run the race, came out onto the course, and ran with me for the last 7 km, and really helped me to maintain a faster pace for the last 5k. I’m trying to gear up for a marathon in May, so I hope this race helped to improve my fitness.
