Team RunnersConnect start the new year with a bang as athletes brings in 6 Personal Bests

Jan Mokros ran a 5k in Needham, MA and finished the distance in the time of 33:14.

This was a real community race, and I saw runners I hadn’t seen for years. What made it especially special was that I ran it with my son.

Diane Souza ran the Chilly Willy half marathon and finished with a time of 2:12:56. This was a personal record by 8 minutes!

I have been following my training plan exactly as prescribed and felt like I have improved as a runner this race confirmed it!!! An 8 minute PR since my last half marathon in September!!!!! I’ll take it!!! I’m so happy My goal is to get my half marathon under 2 hours by the end of the year and with RC I believe I can DO IT!!! Thank you RC coaches for all your advice!!

Charles Phare ran the Rip to River 10k and finished this race event in the time of 1:09:00, which was a PR!

This race is all on the sand – along the beach. Mostly underfoot is firm, but some places are soft.

Lisa Patel ran the Pistol Ultra and finished in a time of 7:47:27.

This was my first attempt at a longer than a marathon distance and although I am not sure that I was up to the challenge, the experience was wonderful and my body is tired but uninjured proving that strength training is a key component in running. I am not sure that I will attempt the longer distance again until after I feel like I have “tackled” the marathon. Doing this race with several members of my running group as well as my “running partner for life”, made this race a fun experience despite the challenges of the ultra distance.

Brad Cook ran the Commitment Day 5k and finished the distance in the time of 20.45, which was a PR by 2.04.

This was not a race that I had planned for or even prepped for, but ran the race together with my family. I ran this race the day after a half marathon race. I figured that I couple probably PR because I have not raced that many 5ks in the past. I went out pretty fast and was able to hold pace.

Brad Cook ran the New Years Double Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1.45.56.

I trimmed a couple of minutes off of my last half marathon time back in November, but not even close to the 1.40. that I was shooting for. Overall I felt really good during the race and was able to pick up my pace towards the end.

Emily Pilotte ran the Lowell’s 1st Run 5k with a finishing time of 21:27.

Ran on effort and worked really hard in the 3rd mile into the wind. Noticed when I finished it took longer than it should have to run the .1 across the line- course was long. This is the second 5K I’ve run in the past few weeks and in both I’ve learned good racing tactics for next time. I think I might actually be starting to like the (pesky) 5K!

Art Mercurio ran the Lowell 1st Run 10k, finishing this distance in the time of 52:08.

This was my fastest 10K in ~15 years and 4+ minutes faster than my last 10K.

Jeff Wettig ran the Pistol Ultra and finished in a time of 5:53:20, which was a PR!

This is my and Lisa Patel’s first exposure to the Ultra community, and frankly we loved the experience. While we ‘only’ ran the 50K, being around runners of all ages doing up to 100 miles was very breathtaking, and the courage that 100’s of runners had to even start the race is so inspiring and motivational. We also spent 4 hours handing out finisher swag and age group awards, and the time spent with these runners after just finishing their 100 or 50 miles talking about their journey and sharing their accomplishments is some of the most humbling experiences I’ve ever had.

Whether we run any more Ultra’s, it’s too early to tell. But, I’m sure what we experienced these 2 1/2 days will stick with us and help us with our training and racing, and through our last miles…

Karen Scobie ran the 41.Silvesterlauf (41st NYE Run) 5k and finished in 29.17. This was a PR by 3:20.

I needed a December race to meet my goal of 1 race/month, after another one we had entered didn’t happen due to a family emergency. So we found this one not too far from us.

There were about 500 people on this mixed trail of mud/grass/dirt/asphalt with some little inclines and declines. The 100m at the end was on a track, but before arriving there, we had to run around the outside of it – single track and heavy grass, so no chance to accelerate or get past people. I struggled with every km, but never stopped. I didn’t have high performance expectations, as I had been on a bit of a slump/burnout after my marathon in November. But I met my goal of under 30 min, got a PR (only my 2nd chip-timed 5k), and came in 4/16 in age group, missing 3rd by 4 seconds.

Kirsten Reynolds ran the January Freeze Series 5k and finished with a time of 58:58.

This is the 1st in a series of 4 races this month. These races are already helping me get back into the mental place I need to be to begin my marathon training and keep me from developing winter funk!

Tony Malinauskas ran the Pancakes and Resolutions Run 10k and finished this race in the time of 51:10, which was a 44 seconds PR!

This is a New Year’s Day run that is usually on a flat course along a levee, but this year they rerouted us into the hills due to flooding in the lowlands. Despite the much hillier course, I beat my time last year by 2:05. Also, this race features a pancake breakfast afterwards. Pancakes taste REAL GOOD after running 10K as hard as you can on a cold, breezy morning!

Carol Gross ran the Fort Steilacoom Resolution 5K and finished with a time of 26:16.

First race of the season with frost and COLD temperatures made it an “exhilarating” day! Good time for me this early!

Wendy Macias Hall ran the Texas Marathon and finished with a time of 5:32:25.

After 3 years of waiting to run this race, l finally was able to get in and earn my 3.3lb medal. The race is only 700 runners between full and half marathon. I placed 166 out of 325 and 55 in my age group. The race was 4 loops around fantastic scenery of pine trees, upscale neighborhoods, ponds and a lake. I focused on maintaining long run pace, successfully fuelled with ucan products ( I had more steady energy throughout the race and after). I had a great experience running this race that l am thinking to register for the next year, but more likely for the half marathon and get another awesome Texas size medal. After the race l drove home to celebrate my son’s 12 birthday, my new year baby!
