Team RunnersConnect has an incredible weekend as athletes brings in 8 PRs and several Age Group awards

Tony Malinauskas ran the Terrain Mud Run 10k and finished with a time of 56:28:03, which was a PR!

WON MY AGE GROUP, and came in top 20 of 453 runners though my age group is THE oldest! This also qualifies me for this year’s Obstacle Course Racing World Championship in Canada in October. I flew down to Tampa to do this race and get an early start to my mud running season, which doesn’t start here in the mid-West of the US until April.

Mike Braun ran the Surf City Marathon and finished in a time of 3:31:54.

Beautiful day at the beach. Despite feeling well-prepared and a pacing plan in place, I made a rookie mistake. I went out way too fast and paid the price. After speaking with the 3:25 and 3:20 pacers, I decided to sandwich myself in between the two groups and keep a visual with the 3:20 folks. They went out at pace and then sped up within the 2nd mile. My mind said slow, but my body didn’t listen…and said this pace feels good. Halfway through the race, my body started to show signs of the pacing and I knew that trouble was brewing. By mile 17, I slowed and I had fully popped at mile 20. I decided to walk while I took in my last gel and try to regain composure. I was determined to run it in so I settled into my easy pace of 9:00/mile and ran it in…even pushing it on the last mile. I fell well short of my goal (3:22) and was 3 minutes slower than my PR. With that, I was proud of my ability to keep moving towards the finish despite my poor execution. I had plenty of painful miles to reflect on my pacing, so I had made peace with my mistake by the time I crossed the line. Given the pacing and toasty final 10k, I still ran my 2nd fastest marathon. Thank you to the Runners Connect coaching team and the RC community. Special shout out to Coach Jamie. You are awesome. Cheers!

Brandon Tuss ran the Super Bowl 4 Miler and finished this race event in the time of 38:20.

The mood was electric, considering that it was taking place right outside the Carolina Panthers stadium! I took it easy for this one and had fun. No concerns with splits or PRs, just a nice stroll through Uptown!

Hein Mynhardt ran the Saskatoon Hypo Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:48:58.

Half M hypo run, lovely warm day but very icy so running times were slow. Despite a fall, I am happy with the outing. Negative splits and catching / passing fellow runners over the last 5k’s was pleasing. 3rd in age group, to cold for the other cronies and had a turbo on my walker…haha

Wendy Macias Hall ran the Katy Half Marathon and finished this distance in the time of 2:24:52.

After Chevron Houston Marathon on Jan 17th, and having the worst ITB pain on my right leg, I had only run 3 miles and then nothing until this half marathon on Feb 6th. Temperatures were also on the 40’s, but this time I wore my tights; also as usual I foam rolled every night and stretched, so no ITB issues at all. I had a great first 6mi with an average pace of 10:13, then I had to slowdown to my regular pace. Not bad for not running enough during the previous 3 weeks -work and school with little sleep, I had to sacrifice training some.

Bjorg Klem ran the NYRR Gridiron 4 miler and finished this race in the time of 34:23, which was a 0:14 PR!

After a few months of running 10-12 easy miles per week it was nice to push the pace a little and I am very happy with an accidental PR by 14 seconds – I say accidental because I had no idea what my 4 mile PR was (I haven’t raced one in years). I am still walking some of the uphills during these races since that seems to be causing pain in the hip but making up for it on the flat/downhills. I am so glad I have been able to maintain my fitness with less running and I hope it means that the strength focus of the last few months is starting to pay off. It certainly gives me the motivation to continue with it.

Aida Trevino ran Gore-Tex Philadelphia Marathon with a finishing time of 3:56:27, which was a PR!

In fact (with the exception of my first marathon) this has been my slowest time, (my PR is 3:28:54) however I felt extremely happy with my results, because I ran Philly, my 9th marathon, after 10 years of not running one (though I never stopped running) so it was a great comeback…but what it really made it great was that I felt strong all the way, and did a negative split. The time you guys predicted was 4:16, so I was very happy when I realized I was definitely going to break the 4 hours! I loved every mile of this marathon!!!!! And for the record I think that the training program you gave me was excellent!

Brian Hazard ran the Surf City Half Marathon and finished in 1:39:01. This was a personal record by 1 minute!

I was shooting for my previous PR time of 1:40, since I ran that two years ago, with two significant injuries in between. Considering the heat and all the bobbing and weaving I had to do, I’m happy to have beat my previous PR by a minute!

Jeff Horton ran the Hot Chocolate 5k and finished in a time of 20:58.

Perfect conditions, cold and crisp, almost no wind. Course mostly flat, one overpass over railroad tracks and a couple other minor rises. Aimed to run negative splits and succeeded. Half-mile splits varied by max 3 seconds, mile splits by 1 second. 2nd half about 13 seconds faster than first half. Finished 17th overall and 1st in M 55-59 age group. Was expecting a bit faster time, but satisfied with an evenly paced, good very early season mark.

Dana Beller ran the Daytona Beach half marathon and finished with a time of 1:51:16. This was a PR by 3min 40sec.

I have wanted to do Daytona Beach for the last several years. It’s really neat because you get to run the race care track (unbelievable) then out to the ocean and back. This was a PR race for me. I have been steady at 1:54-1:56 half for years. This time I trusted my training (and actually trained:). When it got hard at the end I did my “I am strong” mantra and kept thinking back to my training runs. It wasn’t the best technically run race in that I never stopped for water and only had 2 shot blocks but I was so cold I didn’t want to stop and thought if I did stop I wouldn’t make my time goal. This race was cold, windy and rainy. My feet were soaked by the end of the race. I would have loved a sub 1:50 but am super happy with my results. Maybe next time.

Anne-Lise Vivier ran the 2016 Gridiron 4M, finishing this distance in the time of 34:34. This was a personal record by 17 seconds!

I am shocked that I ran a PR! The 2nd and 3rd mile did not feel so great and I thought I had started the race too fast, but my 4th mile went really well and I ended up doing much better than I thought.

Con James Kittos ran the The Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run 10k and finished in 53:33. This was a new personal record by 5 mins.

I was very pleased with the result as my training over the summer months here in Sydney is only in maintanence mode, owing to the extreme heat. Not a PR but still five minutes better than the same event last year and only 3 minutes slower than my PR. This was an extremely hilly race, whereas my PR was on a reletively flat run. So all in all I am very very very happy indeed.

PS, this is my second year of running and at 52 years of age I am now consistently finishing in the top 25% of 51-60 year olds!

John Acord ran the Bahrain Marathon and finished with a time of 3:50:06, which was a massive PR by 0:17:44.

While I took over 17 minutes off of my marathon time from last year, I need to remember that I went into this race season with the goal to run a sub-4 hour marathon, which I did by a considerable amount. I am not only running at a sub-4 hour pace, I am well below that after Runners Connect has pushed me to get faster. I think I carb loaded well, but I must have eaten something that didn’t make me feel well and it affected me.
