Team RunnersConnect has an awesome weekend as team members record 10 Personal Bests

Lorna SteMarie ran the Brooksie Way and finished with a time of 1:07:45. This was a personal record by 5 minutes.

My first 10K and I was worried about being slow and/or bonking. While the others shot out of the gate, I found my pace and kept it and left many of them in the dust at mile 5. The coaches’ advice was perfect! This was only my 2nd race (first was a 5K) and I feel much more confident now! Came in 5th in my age group!!

Adam Schafer ran the Champoeg Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:46.

Gorgeous day on one of the prettiest courses in Oregon. My family volunteered at the first (and last) water stop- so I got some critical hugs & cheers. The race is a week before the big Portland Marathon- so it tends to be very low key and only ~250 people.

I was taking it easy out there and using it as my long run- I didn’t even listen to music. I held a steady pace throughout (sort of). This was also part of my 1/2 (or more) a month race strategy for 2015.

Sascha Fennel ran the Berlin Marathon and finished with a time of 3:36:50, which was a personal record by 4:50 minutes!

This was my second marathon of the year. The first one in Rio I succeeded to improve my 20 year old PR by more than 10 minutes to 3:41:42. Now I wanted a Sub 3:40 and I got it.

I probably did not do my smartest race. From km 10-28 I was too fast. There is no “time in the bank” came to my mind many times. But on the other hand I knew that today was very special and something wonderful was meant to happen. 72 hours before the start I did not know I would be able to run it when a miracle worker at the organizer made it possible. Berlin is the city where my father was born, my mother lives and where in 1986 I met my wife. I had to PR here and nothing would keep me from it now.

So I took more risks than I should have taken. After 28km a time of 3:33 or better was realistic if I just could hold my pace. I could for 7km but not for more. The last 7km turned out to be extremely tough. Each step was a fight. But I made it coming in with another huge PR. 4:01 in NYC last November, 3:41 in Rio nine weeks ago. And now 3:36.

Big thanks to the RunnesConnect coaching team and the RunnersConnect community. Your support has been tremendous and I could not have succeeded without you.

Jon Whitehouse ran the Copped Hall 5 and finished with a time of 32:59.

Five mile local multi-terrain race. 3:16 faster than my previous course best (2013). Fourth place and 1st V40 (albeit a thin field). Great conditions – very little mud.

First 2 miles downhill, then undulating and uphill to finish. Especially pleased with how comfortable and strong I felt in final mile while other runners were fading away.

Sarah Ryan ran the Bellin Women’s Half Marathon and finished with a time of 1:47:50.

This was the first local women’s half marathon and the organizers did a fantastic job. A little over 1,000 women competed in the half and another 1,000 did the relay. This wasn’t a PR for me but it was my second best time at this distance and given how tired and sore I was with my target race, Chicago, coming up in two weeks I was happy with this time. I placed 5th out of 176 in my division and the best part was when Kathrine Switzer handed me my medal.

Bjorg Klem ran the NYRR Five-Borough Series: Bronx 10-Mile and finished with a time of 1:28:18, which was a new PR!

Felt great to finish strong with gas still in the tank, legs feeling fresh and hip feeling good. I ran with a couple of friends and everyone finished strong, one even had a PR of 12 minutes! It was an automatic PR for me since i have never done a 10 mile race before. What I am very happy about is that this improved my NYRR best pace by 5 seconds down to 8:31 (a 10k equivalent time). My previous time was set at a half marathon in October 2014 so would have rolled off in the next week to an 8:58 from a 10k in late June. It also completed my 9+1 requirements for guaranteed entry to the 2016 NYC marathon

Katie Walding ran the Windsor Half Marathon in a time of 2:09:22, which was a PR by 25 seconds.

Feel I let myself down on this race. Was quite strong until mile 10 and then it got hard and it hurt and (as has been my issue) I sort of gave up. Mile 11 and 12 were so slow, that my PB was out of the window.

I was so peed off then, that I got angry with myself and then managed to hammer the last mile and claw back a 25 second lead on last year. Which proves to me I had more in the tank and if I had kept pushing for miles 11 and 12 I could probably have got close to the 2:07 I was hoping for.

Lots to think about, and I need to write up all my thoughts, analysis and feedback to the Coaches so that we can work on the training for next time! Onwards and upwards

Merryl Winter ran the Carouge run to run and finished with a time of 49.07. This was a personal record by 3 min!

first race since joining runners connect! And a PR 🙂 Had followed the training plan but was so nervous as its such a different approach to my normal training, I just wasnt sure i was ready, but smashed the sub 50min goal by nearly one minute, came 53rd overall (out of 700) and finished 10th in my category (out of 70) so very happy! celebrated by running a 5 km colour run with my kids and friends straight after (literally 15 mins after!). Got covered in paint which is part of the fun, an made for a perfect casual cool down.

Tony Malinauskas ran the Tough Mudder Michigan and finished with a time of 2:25:00. This was a personal record by 35:00.

This was my 14th Tough Mudder in 2 1/2 years and my fastest one to date for a 12-mile obstacle course race. Some of the PR was due to the course being pretty flat and no long lines of people waiting at obstacles, but I think that some was due to applying the improvements to my running form that I learned at ZAP running camp. My running seems to have gotten noticeably more efficient — I’m faster and do not tire as much. How cool is that?!

Amy Thomas ran the Pittsburgh Great Race 10k and finished with a time of 54:45.

Love this race through Pittsburgh and have done it a number of times. No PR today – I simply enjoyed the race and kept a steady pace. Ran it with a friend….lots of memories with this race over the years…running with family and friends. My dad used to run this race til he hit his mid 70s.

Kevin Allen ran the EX2 Fall Back Yard Burn 2/6 and finished in a time of 39.44.

Didn’t charge after it, thinking of it as a tune up race. Had some grisly hills. Beautiful course.

Robert Bauman ran the Rock n’ Roll HM and finished with a time of 2:55.

Was running a new PR for the first 9 mi then bad pain started on my right heel that caused me to stop then limp in with walking and jogging. Pain was to much to continue pace.

Margaret Hoogland ran the RootsNBlues Half Marathon & 10K and completed this race in the time of 2:56:25.

The race was much hillier than I anticipated (90% of it had some type of incline), concrete not roads comprised at least 30-45% of the race and, not feeling gutsy I stuck to the course rather than running along on the shoulder or bike path, and the aid stations (6) did not provide any option besides Gatorade after climbing one of the largest hills. This is personal issue for me, since I cannot drink Gatorade or I get a migraine within 10 minutes. Note to self – check to make sure all aid stations for the marathon provide water! Overall – I am so happy to have finished and to have only walked a wee bit in the last mile.

Thanks to our great coaches and fellow runners for making being a Runners Connect Member a great experience! I could not get over this as quickly without all of you.

Luis Cifuentes ran the 10k Santa Marta de Tormes and finished with a time of 38.45. This was a new personal record by 4 minutes.

did my first shake out-before-a-race which felt good and I’ll schedule it from now on. Had to hold back first km after that everything felt easy until the 6km spot then I would not be able to tell any difference from a cutdown workout (how can I hate them that much), ok, I managed to run last ~2km really fast. Second great training cycle since I joined RC. Let’s keep working together guys. Really thankfull.

Heather Joe ran the Whistlestop half marathon and finished with a time of 2:10:37.

I stuck to a good carb load plan and fueling plan that I have practiced time and again. I didn’t make the mistakes of the past by eating the wrong things the night before or not staying on top of my hydration during the race like I have in the past. I used advice from the nutritional blueprint and the runners connect articles to get it streamlined for race day. I feel like all my hill training on my long runs also helped.

I did better on this race than my spring goal race that was pancake flat!! So I am confident my next two half marathons coming up are going to be awesome. Everything is finally starting to come together I believe thanks to my awesome RC coaches and the support of my RC team mates. Bring on my winter marathon I will be ready to PR!!!!

Mark Quebedeaux ran the Battlefield cross country race in 14:19 minutes. This was a new personal record by 12 seconds.

I got to run the same XC course my daughter ran in the Jr. High race after I ran. It was great to share this event with my family.

Christianna Kearns ran the San Jose Rock n Roll Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:01:00.

Not much. It was 6 minutes slower than my usual time on this course. The weather was good though! Much cooler than the last couple of years.

Phil Wright ran the Great Yorkshire Run and finished in a time of 1:02:02, which was a personal record by 8m 6s.

This was my focus race that I’ve been working towards for awhile. Over the course of the past month I’ve cut around 15 minutes off my PR at 10K and am seeing the outcomes of the work I’m doing. I’ve had a rocky couple of years, but this feels like the threshold to bigger, further, faster things.

Training for this race has helped me fall in love with running again. Thank you Runners Connect – both the coaches and the community.

Diana Convey ran the Laveen 5K and finished with a time of 23:58.

This was the best I’ve felt racing since my knee replacement a few years ago. Weather was perfect, I felt fit after finishing my RC half marathon race schedule and was simply here to support the community. I’m moving on to some short trail races and I hoped to post a good time to enter for my new training schedule. Felt awesome to run alongside and encourage runners almost half my age. Easily won my AG and actually posted a faster time than 2 AGs younger than mine. Very pleased with the result to begin the trail racing season.

Carol Anderson ran the Park 2 Park and finished with a time of 2:39:53. This was a new personal record by 9:31.

This is my third half, and I’ve PR’d in all of them (if you can count the first). I’m a “newbie” older runner, and have been running regularly for about 18 months, the last seven of which have been with RC. My goal remains a sub-2:30 half, and I can see that it’s really just a matter of putting in the miles–in other words, what I’m doing is working!

I chose this race because it was at the right time of the year; I had been hoping for a bit later in the year so the weather would be cooler but a friend recommended this one–gorgeous, she said, and really collegial. It was that, yes, but it was warmer than I had hoped at the start; temps were 60 degrees with 98% humidity. Just the conditions that killed me all summer long. I figured that I should err on the conservative side at the start, so I joined the 12 minute pace group–with an eye on my Garmin. The pacers were great, kept us on track really well. Even so, they crept up on 11:45 at about mile 7, and outpaced me (and everyone else who had been running with them). The last .15 miles were on grass (really uneven) and then a dirt track, so there was no way I was going to push it on that–no twisted ankle for me! I pushed as much as I was comfortable, and finished well.

I’m proud of the fact that even in the last three (slower) miles I could feel I had a lot more “in the tank” than the last half (in May). And the summer’s worth of slow slow slow summer slogs in the heat and humidity did pay off in these conditions. I’m pleased with the 9:31 PR because it was even warmer yesterday than at my second half last May (where heat and humidity really was a factor for everyone).

I can see that another round of training will further strengthen my base, which is really what I need. I’ve got my eye on a couple of halfs next winter/spring–one at the end of Feb and big local one in May. I’ve been working my way through Jeff’s runner’s form course and the weird thing is that my hip flexors started cramping up right after the race as I was changing my shoes in the car. So, that means I was using them a lot more than I have been doing! I’ve never had them cramp up, so I’m taking that as a good sign that I used them and need to do more strength work.

At any rate, I’m pleased and looking forward to the next round. Thanks, coaches and all of the RC community, for all the positive support!
