Team RunnersConnect has an excellent weekend as athletes record 15 Personal Bests

Jonathan Bogaard ran the Halloween Hustle 5k and finished with a time of 25:07, which was a 22 seconds PR.

Repeat of a race I did last year and improved by 4:45. Did first couple of mile splits a little fast and faded at the end but still able to get a PR. Wanted to get under 25 minutes to finish the race season but I just don’t have that “killer instinct” to get it done I guess. Wasn’t very sore after race (which probably means I’m not pushing hard enough). Still, great to a PR and it was a fun race. I think I’m going to move up to training for a HM in February. I did two 10k’s this season (April and August) so HM is the next step.

Scott Schoenborn ran the Columbia Gorge Half Marathon and finished with a time of 01:37:14. This was a personal record by 04:45.

Since I had run the Portland Marathon 3 weeks before I had only signed up for the Columbia Gorge Half Marathon to help inspire a younger runner to compete for the first time. He’s 23, young and athletic, but I’m not planning on running hard or doing a PR. As we started heading up I let my friend set the pace.. and actually he was keeping a good pace up the hill and I was maybe 40-50′ behind him the whole way thinking to myself, “He’s going to fast and will pay for it later.” But about 1/2 mile before the turnaround I started to pick it up and by the turnaround he was 100 yards behind me.. I felt good so I asked if I was ok to go for a PR? He said, “Go for it!” So I kicked it into gear… and started to pick off people one by one.. at the end I still had energy to put up a pretty fierce kick. I finished 45th out of 1103 runners total. and 1st out of 54 runners in my age category (age 50-59). This is a little over a year and a half of running and about 5 months with daily and focused training through Runner’s Connect. a 01:37:14 half marathon with over a 1000′ of elevation.. I’m pumped! Next targeted race is to qualify for Boston this next May 1st with a sub 03:30 race. I’m positive with continued faithful training and great coaching I will get there and some. ps.. I beat my 23 year old friend by almost 9 minutes at the end.. (smiles).

Anna Squicciarini ran the Tussey Mountain Back Relay and finished in a time of 56:12, which was a PR!

This was my first relay ever! I enjoyed every bit of it. Total of 50 miles in teams of 6. We had a blast. I did it with my running buddy and 4 local runners. My legs were mostly downhill, especially the first one, which was *really* downhill, hence the super fast pace (honestly, gravity helped a lot). 4 miles in 25:31. The second leg was tougher, less downhill, some rolling hills and quads burned out by the previous miles. This was 4.3 miles and took me 30:41 (7:08 pace). I loved it, though my legs are so tired today!!!

Karen Wilson ran the Dead Man Running 5K and finished the race distance in the time of 25:43.

Running this was a last minute decision because I really can’t remember when I last ran a 5K. They always have a nice after party and everyone (except me) dresses up in Halloween costumes. It was a warm October night and even though I was tired I needed to burn up some of the Halloween candy I’ve been eating all week at work! I was slowing down and fought the urge to walk on my last mile. Well the fast ladies didn’t show up because I won female Masters and the award was a golden skull!

Ed Chuchaisri ran the Osaka Marathon and finished with a time of 4:52, which was a PR!

I am sure everyone agrees the 1st Marathon is always special. It has been over 24 hours since the race ended but I am still soaked with joy and sense of accomplishment even though I didn’t make the target time. I was in fact contemplating whether or not I should run the race as I was afraid my adductor injury got worsen. At the end, I truly feel it was the right decision to take part of this wonderful event in Osaka. The discomfort didn’t escalate and I had a chance to finish my first marathon and learned a tons from it. What an experience!

Eileen Fox ran the Marine Corp Marathon and finished this distance in the time of 6:00:10, which was a PR!

This was my first marathon and I had a great weekend with my daughter. This was her first marathon as well.

Wesley Dinsmore ran the Marine Corps Marathon and finished in 4:25:43. This was a personal record by 16:31.

Trust your training! This was the first marathon I ran completely through, including water stations and did not bonk! I loved being able to continually steadily increase my pace with each split, passing others at the end while they were walking and sprinting to the finish. I loved how everything came together – from the training, workouts, advice articles, nutrition and suupport from my wife, RC coaches and teammates. Really, trust your training! I was told all of this by several but I admit it was hard to see back then. I ran steadily and strong from start to finish. If I left any time on the course it was in terms of time I lost during training due to injury or not training properly. But I ran hard throughout.

My goal for this race was to beat Oprah, haha – 4:30:00 or better. I heard she ran it in the 80s. This race really was quite a confidence booster and I needed it. My last race was a half marathon a month ago and my worst race ever. Perhaps it was all for good bc it forced me to focus more intently on what I was doing. I squared away nutrition and training and it all came together for my goal race. Thank you so much, to all my RC coaches and teammates!

Michael Iban ran the East Bay 10K and finished with a time of 46:14, which was a PR by 9 seconds.

This was my second tuneup race leading up to the CIM. My training plan called for a 22 mile fast finish long run. I planned to run the first 14 miles at easy pace, then run the 10K at marathon pace, followed by a 1.8 mi cool down at easy pace. I completed the 14 miles just as the gun went off for the 10K. Since the legs felt great I thought I’d go for a 10K PR. The first two miles were about five seconds slower than target. The next three miles were at target; and the last stretch was as fast as I could have gone. I crossed the line nine seconds under my 10K PR. That was a huge confidence booster for me. Overall, it was a very fun day. My sister also PR’ed, and my son gave out medals. So it was a family affair.

Shane McCoy ran the MCM 5k and finished in a time of 4:00:23. This was a personal record by 30 minutes!

Served in the Marine Corps and always wanted to do this race.

Christophe Cadiou ran the Atlanta 10-miler and finished with a time of 1:07:55, which was a PR!

First 10-mile race ever, so I was not sure what to expect. My goal was to run under 1h10m, so mission accomplished, without digging too deep either – I had a few more miles left in me at that pace. This was also good test of my fitness level before the Atlanta half at the end of November, which is my goal race for the season.

Luis Enriquez ran the Marine Corps Marathon and finished this race event in the time of 4:23:03.

My last two marathon were tough and I worried a lot about time. This One I decided to enjoy as much as my first one, and I did, if not more. The course and the people, specially the marines were excellent.

Siobhan Donegan ran the Cape Cod Marathon and finished with a time of 3:29:36.

This was my 4th consecutive year running this course so I think I am becoming familiar with it, its hills and weather patterns. I ran the first half in 1:45:13, a little faster than last year. I knew the hills were ahead of me at that point and had a strategy to slow my pace down during the climb but allow gravity to help me during the descent. At Mile 20, I was all of 30 seconds ahead of last year and really wanted to beat myself, but knew I needed to run a strong final 10K to do that. Crossing the finish line was a BLAST! This was a course PR, I negative split the second half, and I was 2nd in my age group.

Thanks to the expertise and guidance of the RC coaches and my tailored training plan, I am accomplishing things I honestly never thought possible. It’s been a great adventure for me to set a goal, work toward it and then actually see it come to fruition. My pre-RC running did not even come close to reaching this level. I am excited for the races on my calendar in 2016!

Mary Spivey ran the Marine Corps Marathon and finished in a time of 4:54:51.

This was also my first city race, where a lot of roads are narrower. I knew from the start that this was not going to be a huge PR and decided I was good with finishing strong. The area was beautiful, which help distract from some really rude runners. I frequently found myself stuck behind a barricade of runners who were elbow to elbow and I had to slow down to wait for an opportunity to break through. The Blue mile was emotional and moving. The Marines did a phenomenal job getting us water and fuel. The hills were another challenge for me. While there was not a huge elevation change, the inclines were enough to add to my fatigue. I did finish strong.

John Gardener ran the West Glamorgan Cross Country and finished with a time of 44:16.

First Cross Country Race of the season for me! Lovely day! Tough course with swamp grass, shallow river crossing, rough paths, uphill, downhill, steep banks etc. Distance was 9.1Km.

Adam Schafer ran the Marine Corps Marathon, finishing this distance in the time of 03:56.

Anthony Boyadjis ran the USATF-NJ 8k xc and finished in a time of 42:18, which was a PR!

Not an all out effort. Team needed a fifth scorer to maintain Grand Prix lead. Good tempo run on a wet grassy course.

Tom Benoit ran the Marine Corps Marathon and finished with a time of 4:27:09. This was a personal best by 21:14.

After 5 tries at the MCM I had two main goals – break 5 hours and improve on maintaining consistency of pace for as long as possible. Thumbs up on both counts. I broke 5 hours rather nicely with a 4:27:09. That is a 36 minute MCM PR. I was even more pleased with the consistency of my pace. After taking it a bit slow the first couple miles, I stayed within a small pace band from miles 3 thru 24, averaging 9:50, which was just a couple seconds off my goal pace at the starting line. The best part was running miles 21 and 22 that go over a very long bridge, and which had always been my downfall in past years. This year I ran those 2 miles in 9:57 and 10:21. I want to give great big thanks to Coach Jamie for talking me off the ledge after the 2014 MCM where I was thinking my marathoning days were over. Apparently not! 🙂

Apolon Marolt ran the Volkswagen 20th Ljubljana Marathon and finished in 3:32:11. This was a personal record by 22 minutes!

It was 20th jubilation, there were over 14000 participents on M and HM (we started together), it was sunny, a little cold in the beginning then perfect. All records were falling: overall participation, race record (2:08:11), spectators, TV, … Even my wife and daughter were running. It was my best performance till now. I was following my plan, staring slow and gradually increasing speed, so I ran strong till the end of race, keeping my cadence steady and getting the second half about 1 minute faster and finishing with all I had got left. I followed the nutrition plan during the race and it worked really well. So overall my best performance and I am thankful to all the coaches for my training plan and working with me in last 4 months.

Sandeep Kate ran the Veterun 10k and finished in a time of 52 minutes.

Tough route. Very hilly. Actually was a 10.5k. Won first place in 40 to 45 category. Came back on track after a gap of almost 3 months.

David Sheehy ran the Blue Steel Stampede (trail) and finished this race in the time of 57:10.

Not a PR for a 10k distance but this was my first trail race. It was also a pretty technical one – or so everyone said – and had some serious climbs that needed to be power walked/hiked, a couple wet crossings, a lot of rocks and roots etc. I felt great and was happy with my performance. Small field of ~120. I came in 19th overall and 4th in my age group.

Sarah Keith ran the LA Cancer Challenge 10k and finished with a time of 46:47, which was a PR by 7 minutes.

Was only running this 10k race in support of a friend who has pancreatic cancer….very nice event well put together….ended up with a PR and came in 1st in my age division.

Stacy Thomas ran the Haunted Hustle Half Marathon and finished in a time of 1:46:45, which was a 27 seconds PR!

This was my 2nd half marathon within the past 2 months. It’s the 1st time I’ve done half marathons that close together. So I’m happy with a PR! Overall a great race with great weather and great spectators and volunteers.

Melissa Peirce ran the Gansett Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:12:13.

Tune-up race for full coming up in December. Was hoping to hit 2:10 but couldn’t quite hold the pace on the hills and in the headwind along the water. Pretty course, and very well organized. Did my best and found myself passing folks in last few miles, which is unusual for me, and enjoyable. Experimented with running hard starting at mile 12 marker which I wouldn’t usually risk. But was able to hold good pace through finish, no sprint to finish line though.

Paulo Correia ran the Athenas Half Marathon and finished the distance in 2:01:03. This was a personal record by 4 min.

I got this PR even running without feeling 100% healthy. I’m sure I improved a lot this year and this race is my last one before the marathon I will run next month.
