Team RunnersConnect racing strong across the world and brings in 3 PRs this weekend

Sascha Fennel ran the Course du Soleil Half Marathon and finished this distance in the time of 1:42:47.

This morning, while making plans for my running year, I read a quote, presumably by Carl Lewis, on the Facebook of the Half Marathon of Genova. “It is not the result that matters but the tenacity and the courage with which we have fought to get it, whatever it is.” This race was the end of a 12-race PR streak. Given, that the previous half marathon PR of 1:38:16 was done in better form and in a flat race would not hold me to try and challenge it in this hilly half marathon from Nice to Monaco. I gave it my best shot. And if I measured my satisfaction simply by the time I believe I would be mistaken. Instead I have learned several important lessons. 1. I do not need to PR in every race in order to race happily. 2. As long as I race to the best of my level I will feel happy. 3. If I want to improve as a runner there are some important clues what I should be working on. An example is running uphill. In all three uphill segments people passed me. I needed to be on flat ground or downhill to pass them. So, coaches, give me hill sprints any time! My fourth reason to be happy is the comparison with last year. 6:28 minutes faster. Not a single part of the race where I had not done better than one year ago. The “Course du Soleil” is one of the most beautiful half marathons in Europe. It starts 2.5km from my door. I will run it again and again and I hope that each time I will be able to improve. I am already looking forward to next year!

Claire Bartholic ran the Hot Chocolate 10K and finished with a time of 42:25, which was a PR!

My last race before becoming a Masters! They also had a kids’ Marshmallow Dash race and my 6-year-old and 5-year-old were so excited to run their first race. My son got second place boy! My goal for this 10K was to nail my goal marathon pace and not worry about placing. I’m very competitive by nature, so holding back is difficult for me to do. I’ve never raced a 10K before, so a PR was not a problem! The first mile of the race was barreling down hill and I tried to go easy, but still ended up at 5:45 pace (oops!). The middle miles were a flat out and back and I got passed by 2 teenage cross country girls, but I managed to pass several men, keeping my pace even. The last mile was back up the hill and while the effort was there, that mile was only 7:55. I crossed the finish line in third place, nailing my average GMP. The next day was my 40th birthday and I happily didn’t run a single step!

April Palmer ran the Big beach half marathon and finished in a time of 2:12:30.

This race was fairly flat with some downhill and one small uphill. The race is a little long, over 13.4 (admitted on website). I felt tired most of the race so not one of my best times but a fun race. Good tune up race.

Rafael Diaz ran the Max Tott Half Marathon with a finishing time of 1:59:47, which was a PR!

My First Half Marathon ever. I joined runners connect in order to train for this race. However I got injured playing softball and was out for 2 months so we only had 10 weeks or so to train for the race. I am happy we accomplished our goal. This particular race is very hard because is very hilly so people do not set PR’s on this race, but for me was special because I wanted to run my first HM under 2 hours and we did. Last 2kms I gave it all.

I look forward to continue training with runnersconnect (Coach Danny) and start setting new goals. 🙂 !!!!

Susan Christensen ran the Lake Benbrook Half Marathon and finished with a time of 2:28:08.

I love this race. It was my fifth time to run it. It’s a small local race, so I love to be out there supporting it. The scenery is beautiful, and the hills on the course are challenging.

I wasn’t feeling quite as well as I would have liked during the race because I had the flu one week before and had been in bed for two days. While my finishing time wasn’t what I would have liked it to be, it was slightly better than it was last year, so considering the fact that I had been ill the week before the race, my running has improved considerably since last year!

Brian Putnam ran the BALTO 5K and finished this race event in the time of 00:24:48.

Today’s race was held on the same course on which I ran in September and PR’d and won my age group at 7:05 pace. I’ve been feeling exceptionally well and was very ready for this run. I executed my race strategy perfectly for the first mile, but when the hills started, I totally fell apart…just couldn’t keep going.

Justin Campbell ran the Private time trial 5k, finishing this distance in the time of 17:55. This was a personal record by 50 seconds!
