4 PRs (Including a 17 minute Marathon and 7 Minute HM best) Highlight the Weekend

Eric Thomas ran the Northern Olympic Discovery Marathon in Port Angeles, WA completing the distance in the time of 3:33:49 which was a PR over 17 minutes which placed him the 34th runner out of 332 runners.

EricTThis was a great race experience. I sailed up to the Olympic Peninsula from Seattle (1 day each way). I had just raced a tough trail marathon a few weeks prior, so I was a little worried that I wouldn’t be ready, but everything seemed to be working. It felt like I ate the right amount of goo at the right times and followed the correct reverse splits pacing strategy. I ran the first 21 miles at 8:13/mile and the last 5.2 miles at 8:00/mile. Overall I came out at 8:10/mile, which was a little faster than my 8:15 pace goal. This was my third marathon but my first on-road race, and it helped to run the middle part of the event with the 3:35 pacer. It was also great to run with a friend and fellow RunnersConnect member, Christian, who immediately pulled away and ran an amazingly quick race.

Barbara Anderson raced the Wounded Warrior Half in Irving, TX finishing in the time of 1:35:23 which was a PR of 1 minute and 13 seconds.

I didn’t get hot!! The conditions were not good, 78 at the start and humid. Race was delayed by 30 minutes because of lightning. I even had a little left at the end and fended off a competitor during the last mile of the race. Actually that part was a lot of fun. There were a zillion people walking the last mile of the 10K and we were going about 6.5 pace weaving around them. Im happy she gave up because thinking back on that, someone could have fell or crashed into each other and got hurt.

Dennis Moore ran the Hospital Hill Run Half marathon in Kansas City, MO finishing the half in the time of 1:59:42.

Dennis MooreAll things considered, I felt this was my best HM yet. It was a mental victory! 45 minute delay for lightning, sore knee, and a course famous for it’s hills. It was not a PR, but I wasn’t expecting it on this course. It was, however, a4:21 improvement over the same race a year ago. Still came away with many mistakes to learn from and improve on, but my confidence is sky high!

Ian Knox raced the Scotiabank Half Marathon coming across the finish line in the time of 1:41:07 which was close to a 7 minute PR.

Nearly a 7 minute PR – very happy with the result! It was a beautiful morning, with thousands of other runners out for the 50th anniversary of the Calgary marathon. No complaints!

Bobby Smith raced the Fast Feet 5K in Anniston, AL finishing the 5K in the time of 19:38 which was a 1 minute and 6 second PR and winning the race.

bobbyThis was an unplanned race that I decided to run the morning of the event. I knew that I needed a tune-up race to test my fitness as my workouts have been progressing very well and I felt that my fitness had improved. I did not taper for this race and had a very busy and productive week of training so I wouldn’t say that I was a prepared as I could have been for this 5K. It didn’t matter because I ran a 1:06 improvement PR and WON the 5K. This was my first race win ever and it was awesome. A finish time of19:38 was enough to beat the competition there that day and I was very excited to be the one running behind the lead car. This time also was exciting because it suggests that I’m now at the level of fitness to run my goal 3:08 marathon – which should qualify me for Boston. Running easy days easy and hard days hard while focusing on staying healthy and increasing my mileage has definitely paid off.
