Team RunnersConnect heating it up with 9 PRs as well as several amazing first races

Heidi Bush raced the Launceston Ten which is a 10K in Tasmania, Australia finishing with the time 45:51 which was a PR of 2 minutes and 11 seconds. After not racing a 10K in 5 years and having no idea what to expect, Heidi ran an impressive race and managed too negative split the race giving her a real confidence boost.

HeidiBIn the last 1km there was a bridge to go up and over and then a slight uphill to the finish and even though my legs were really tired and the tank was pretty empty, I remembered my workouts and just thought if I can do a cutdown workout, I can finish this race strong! So I got up on my toes, ran it like the end of a speed workout and managed to kick a bit at the finish. I managed a negative split too. I’ve only been with RC for 3 months but the workouts have so helped my running and it’s helped me have a result like this one, which I would never have thought I could do.

Cynthia Morris ran the Smith Rock Ascent 50k that had over 1000 ft of elevation gainand  completing the distance in the time of 6:28:37 and winning her Age Group.

CynthiaVery hard race but due to the great coaching and the marathon nutrition plan I felt better then in any ultra I have run. Just didn’t have enough training on my feet to finish strong. Won my age group 8 th I think in the masters and middle of the pack for women. This area is huge for very competitive runners so I am tickled pink with my first 50 k in 2 years. It was a totally runnable course only 2 major climbs that you had to walk. If I had had more time to train I could have taken at least a half hr off but I am not complaining. Thank you coach Jamie for indulging my madness and helping me get to the finish. And thanks Jeff for the great race fueling. It worked awesome!

Nicola Reid ran the Xterra – The Woolshed Run which is a 6.75Km in Belmont Regional Park, Wellington, New Zealand finishing this event with the time of 53:50.

When I signed up for Runners Connect in March I had just one goal – to complete all 4 races in the 2014 trail series feeling healthy and fit. While I have suffered a few niggles (blisters + subsequent shinsplints), I feel like I have finished the series a much stronger runner than I was at the start. Very happy.

Kelly Walling ran the Walling Half-Marathon in Bermuda Dunes, CA finishing the distance in the time of 1:46:12 which was a PR of over 5 minutes.

KellyPR for me by 5 minutes. I am happy with how much I have improved from my first Half-Marathon and the pace I was able to run in not ideal conditions. The temperature started at 75 and was 85 when I finished. I have been running consistently now for a year. I hadn’t run more than 5 miles at once since I can remember before starting last year. I feel good and lost a couple of belt sizes and just enjoying running.

John Innes ran the Manitoba Half Marathon in Winnipeg, Canada finishing with the time of 1:43:46 which was PR of 1 minute and 54 seconds.

New Pr by almost 2 minutes in the half; new PR in this race by 4 minutes. Race was special for so many reasons, probably the biggest was having a friend run his first half as well as watching other friends do well in very wet weather.  So much thanks to Runner’s Connect for giving me such a good training plan.this is my second PR with them and have developed a strong trust in what they ask me to do. Thanks again RC.

Samantha McMenamy ran the Sailin Shoes 10K in Colorado Springs, CO finishing in the time of 55:23 which is a 90 second PR.

Samantha MThis was just a fun and low key race and the first since my recent half marathon. I am excited to be able to say I raced in high altitude, but more than anything its so refreshing to be among other runners.

Scottie Duncan raced the Run Auckland 10k in Western Springs, Auckland, NZ completing his first race of this distance with a time of 48:44.

ScottieDI was shooting for my age in minutes (51) for this race and expected to achieve this.  I altered my race plan to ease into the race a little more gently than originally planned and I can tell you that after a couple of kms I was wondering if I would even finish, let alone achieve my goal. Strangely though, it all began to get a bit easier as I wound up to my goal pace. To my surprise and delight I was able to hold this pace until the beginning of the fourth and final lap when I decided to see what I could achieve. I flew (in my mind at least) round the final lap to beat my goal time by 2 minutes and 16 seconds. All-in-all a great day and the perfect antidote to my recent poor HM showing a few weeks ago!

Mickey Young ran the Kick it for Kashius 5K coming across the finish line with in the time of 32:30 which was a PR of 30 seconds.

I hadn’t’ trained consistently the last few weeks due to extenuating circumstances, but I tried to keep to the schedule when I did. I ran at a steady pace throughout (11:30 or so) and then sprinted the last 100 feet. The day was perfect for running and the course is beautiful. I am proud of my time considering the circumstances and I was not tired after the race. 🙂

Russell Friedberg ran the Jackson Hole Half in Jackson Hole, WY finishing with a time of 1:33:27 which placed him 14th overall and 3rd in his age group.

RussellFJackson Hole is a beautiful location. This is the first race I’ve run at any elevation (6300 ft.). It was very hard to breathe. I still came in third in AG (which was 30-39 rather than the normal 35-39). Also, this was the smallest race I’ve run so far – and it was pleasant, but different (lots of lonesome miles).

Sylvie Dolbec ran the Défi des escaliers (Staircase Challenge) in Québec City completing the event in the time of 2:26:32. After battling calf issues in the weeks leading up to the race, she was able to complete this goal race.

SylvieThe race went better than I feared. My calves did cramp during the first 3 km. At the water station, I took a minute to stretch them and I was able to continue. I walked the stairs portions and it was hard, but I see that when I can strength t train a little bit more, I’ll be able to do much better. I was able to run between most of the stair sections. I ran most of the last 2 km and sprinted in the last 500 m. I’m still disappointed that my body didn’t let me prove all I had, but I’m really proud that I did it and finished it… and it was my first time running more than 10km. The good thing is that next year is an almost automatic PR.

Eric Gutke raced the Braves Country 5k in Atlanta, GA finishing in the time of 24:09 which was a 58 second PR.  This was a tune up race for his 10K next month to test his fitness and gain confidence.

Eric GThis was my first race after a full two months of training hard with Runners Connect. The race proceeded in textbook fashion with negative splits of 8:09 (a tad slow due to typical start congestion), 7:45, and 7:34, for a total time of 24:09. A 58 second improvement of my previous 5k PR. The last 400m coming through the tunnel and into the Atlanta Braves stadium felt awesome, kicking hard. Being only 10 seconds off from breaking 24:00, I was forced to wonder if I could have done anything more, tried any harder. By following the race plan precisely, I know that I left everything I had out on the course. I’m completely thrilled with the result and looking forward to tackling my target 10k in 3 weeks!

Rodney Hauer ran the Utah Valley Marathon coming across the finish line  in the time of 4:11:45 which was a PR of 31 seconds.

The scenery was great as was the weather. Didn’t make my goal of 3:55:00. A little discourage I didn’t do better, the first half I was with the pacer but just couldn’t keep up the last half. I didn’t hit a wall or anything my legs just started aching, could have been the ten miles on concrete. I placed 696 out of 1400 runners, and 6th in my age group out of 27.

Dan Angeles ran the Sailin’ Shoes 5k in Colorado Springs, CO finishing in the time of 19:12.

DanAI ran an 18:49 last year, and the 19:12 was WAY off my altitude PR ran last August of 18:11. (sea level PR is 17:57 last July). I hate to say it, but the weather was perfect (last year we had a 20mph headwind, the course was accurate (last year they put a cone in a wrong location making it 3.17 miles) and my mileage and fitness is drastically improved from last year. But all in all, I had a blast!

Mary Stocker ran the Sound to Narrows 12K in Tacoma, WA coming across the finish line with a time of 1:08:42.

MaryS4 minutes faster than last years. The hills have always been a challenge for me: trying to not overindulge on the rolling hills during the middle of the race so I would have something left for the final climb.

Aaron Sobel ran the No Label Brewery 5K in Katy, TX coming across the finish line with a time of 29:26.

I used race as fun way to get in my 3 miles today from my training plan. Plus it was an enjoyable community event.

Hannah Nolan ran the Mick Murphy Memorial Run which was a 4 mile Race in Wexford, Ireland finishing in the time of 27:22.

HannahIt was a learning curve. I trained too hard the day before on my easy run running too fast and then didn’t eat enough on the day of the race which meant I had nothing in the tank for the race. It was also quite warm which wasn’t good for me – but overall more of a learning experience of what NOT to do before a race!

Stacey Owens completed her first triathlon, the Callaway Gardens Sprint Triathlon in Pine Mountain, GA and was an 400m swim/10 mi bike/2mi run Event with a finishing time of 56:10.

StacyI finished in 56:10; came 36th overall women (out of 400+ women) and 4th in my AG (missed 3rd my 15sec!). I am very pleased and my hubby and kids were waiting for me at the end which was awesome!

Patrick Douglass not only PRed in one event this weekend but 2 races. The first race was the Lions Ramble 10K where Patrick came across the finish line with a time of 48.41 giving him a PR of 4 minutes and 41 seconds.

PatrickDThis was a race I had planned on being a test of how my new self has improved and the results are undeniable!!

Patrick’s second race of the weekend was the Mule Haul which was a 5 mile race in Fort Hunter, NY completing this distance with a time of 38:25 which was a PR of 3 minutes and 28 seconds.

This was the second race I had planned on being a test of how my new self has improved and the results (for the second time in 28 hours) are undeniable!! It was an awesome feeling to still have gas in the tank to finish this race strong and with a PR.
